  • Welcome to this newly updated video featuring the current construction on the LAX Airport automated people mover (APM) line, which runs between the brand new consolidated rental car facility, and the LAX terminals via the economy parking structure and in my opinion, most importantly, the LAX/Metro Transit Center, which will, for the first time, create a train link between the Airport and across the metro system, although requiring a transfer at the lax transit center. All local buses are also to be moved to the new bus facility here, overall making connections much better! The project was unfortunately delayed until January of 2026, but lets check out what's been done! I hope you enjoy!

    Will be arriving into LAX mid-march and I’m Mildly disappointed that the LAX APM has been so severely delayed.

    You can go up to the floor at the Rent-A-Car center and get pretty close to the station. It’s open to the public.

    Cool update. In one of your other videos about the LAX/Metro Transit Center Station, I mentioned that I recently spoke to an LA Metro rep, and he said the Transit Center Station should open Spring 2025.

      Primarily itll help travelers without their own vehicles, like those heading to rent a car or those heading to use Metro, itll also benefit those who are transferring terminals!

    Think critically for a moment about this. The cost of building the ENTIRE new Kansas City airport terminal? $1.7B. Cost to build this LAX overhead tram (aka SkyLink) $3.61 Billion. That's three thousand, six hundred and ten million dollars. For a tram. Not even built underground. And a year and a half late in opening! Question - who gets fired for the high costs, overages and bad planning, and um...another $400M cost overage (grift)? WHO GETS FIRED??
    The money to build this stuff doesn't fall out of the sky. Taxpayers pay for it and with the federal government pulling funding, we must have real accountability in our transit and infrastructure projects. We're doing ourselves a disservice and not being able to enjoy more of these projects when leadership is not accountable to deliver at a fair cost, on time and on budget.
    This project (and the LAX/Metro connector) are nice designs by the way. What I object to is the massive overspending, huge costs and mismanagement (including that of the contractors, like LAX Integrated Express Solutions (LINXS) and Tutor Perini. They built and half way in demanded more money, build a bit more, then demanded even more money, and last year told LAX - "give us $400 million, or we won't finish it". Are the contractors now banned from future projects?
    So what is the solution? How about means tested outcomes? For example, if projects in a portfolio go over budget and exceed by more than 50% over a weighted national average (measure costs in high, medium and low cost cities), when projects are not on time , the leadership running said project get FIRED. Most taxpayers with the ability to think critically are SICK OF THE BAD RESULTS and BLOAT of LAXWA (who runs LAX) and Los Angeles Country Metro. I get fired if I do a bad job. So should the people building our infrastructure when they make mistakes over, and over and over.

      Don't get me started.
      Everything that govt does, costs double what any private company would spend.
      And everything that LA govt does, costs double that.
      Unions, special interests, and civil rights orgs inflate the cost of everything.

    • @TigerRailfan
      @TigerRailfan  3 дні тому

      I agree and the political climate in LA overcomplicates things alot aswell, things such as city borders make it so lots of cities have to agree and politicians want no tracks, or they want a deviation to their city, but in this case where its smaller its the contractors that are the problem - recently the 400m budget overrun was unnecessary - im just looking at the completion of the line at this point, which will hopefully come soon!

      @@stevenhutson871 Government contracts work out so if anything the business is just as liable as the government. The problem is the government not holding the business accountable for their promises and estimated bids. I'm not saying government is perfect but there has to be a point when we are not getting screwed by the contractor because they know the government won't hold them responsible.

    • @hockeyplayer28
      @hockeyplayer28 12 годин тому

      @@Truth-of-the-matter Completely agree. But I would place the responsibility and accountability on everyone running and building the projects - both the contractor, the project team at Metro and their leadership too. If the people running and building these projects keep getting the projects wrong over and over and over, they need to be fired and replaced with someone else who can plan and deliver at a fair price (bench-marked against the 4 economic cost zones), on time, at or below budget etc.

    • @stevenhutson871
      @stevenhutson871 7 годин тому

      @ Sure, there's some of that. But it took a private company to build a decent intercity rail system in Florida.
      Whereas, the hi-speed RR in Cali is seriously over budget and waaaay behind schedule. When you're spending someone else's money, there is no poenalty for failure.

    One thing that concerns me about the pedestrian walkway bridges is that, by not being fulling enclosed in glass and having the wires going across instead on the lower portion, rain water may get in, causing a wet floor in the pedestrian walkway bridge, and very slippery conditions, with people slipping and falling on the wet floor when it rains. That's why I think it is 100% neccessary to fully enclose the pedestrian walkway bridges entirely in glass panels.

      LAX is fairly easy to navigate and with each terminal having its own security checkpoint it helps to drastically cut down on lines. The problem will always be the pickup/drop off area which will see a change when all of the shuttle busses disappear and people use the APM. I quite enjoy the newer international terminals.
