Ymir's reason for doing that was so that Connie wouldn't think about it anymore. Ymir helps others in her own way, not openly (she is traumatized by doing this)
Because she is selfless, at this time she was the only one that understood that Bert and Reiner don't have a choice and because of that she gave up herself even if she knew that she will be eaten by another warrior
She went with them to save Reiner and Berthold. Ymir viewed her own selflessness as a weakness, and tried to be selfish and think only of herself, since she was turned into a titan for trying to protect others. But at the end, she decided to save Reiner and Berthold. She accepted herself, she accepted what she was. A girl who would always try to protect others even if she didn't gain anything from it.
Well since those people lied that she carries royal blood, and in Marley eldian royalty never changed the surname (for example Dina Fitz) so probably ymir's surname is ftiz as well
Ymir in my opinion was the only person in aot that hid her titan powers very well, and it was so unexpected as well!
