    Dr. Jay, what are your thoughts on topical latanoprost (0.03%) for hair loss in combination with finasteride (0.1%) and minoxidil (5%)? This was recommended by my doctor but there isn't much information about latanoprost available, would appreciate your insight. Thank you!

    Orals are always metabolised in the liver as well, for example finasteride has already a little literature on correlation with fatty liver desease. If topical works, it is always best for your body.

    Thank you so much for these videos, they are very educational and incredibly helpful.
    Could you please talk about Azelaic Acid for hair loss? I know some hair clinics use it in combination with Minoxidil. It seems to act as a DHT blocker with some initial, tentative evidence suggesting that it works. It also has a much safer side effect profile than Finasteride (although I am aware Finasteride is a much more reliable and effective medication with strong evidence base). Thank you!

      You could do topical finasteride but at a really low concentration, there is literature to support that 2ml of 0.005% or 1ml of 0.01% could be sufficient to block dht locally without going systemic. To do this you have 2 options
      a) buy pure minoxidil powder and mix it with pg till required concentration is reached i.e 1mg minoxidil powder per 100ml
      b) buy pure minoxidil liquid like minoxidil max essengen f and dilute it further with pg

    Ok i have a question, I had been using topical minoxidil for 2 yrs and suddenly around 5 to 6 month ago i started to develop fangus like dandruff on my scalp, it become so swere that i had to shave my head in December and to clean my scalp and then it started to happen again and i had to shave my head head again in February and then i went to dermatologist and she prescribed me 2.5mg oral minoxidil which i am taking currently and its been 17 days i am taking it. I am noticing that my hair look different than before, individual hair looks thinner than before, a bit curvy like in round angle where original they are straight, they are also standing/pointy still after the month instead of getting into slide/downwards shape and i am seeing less volume as well. Its been 1 month and 3 days since i shaved my head, the length of my hairs is around the same as it would grow in this amount of time. So my question is, is oral minoxidil working from the scratch? I mean looks like i am in the withdrawal phase from topical which causing my hair to going back to their pre minoxidil phase. The Dr. said that oral minoxidil will continue from where you left off. I didn't notice any shedding up to this point during washing my hair since i shaved my head and started taking minoxidil. I shaved my head on 25th Feb and resumed topical again on 27th twice a day upto 11th march the day i went to dermatologist and stoped topical and started oral on 12th march and taking it since. I believe it is too early for my hairs to thin even if i wasn't taking oral since withdrawal symptoms dont occur in this short amount of time. I am confused now, i mean topical was working great for me my hair got a lot thicker and now they are looking way thinner. Do i need to go back on topical and do something else about the dandruff/fungus thing? Or continue taking oral?
    Please help me out, thanks.

    Oral minoxidil, in doses lower than those used for hypertension, is effective for treatment of hair loss, but it is more likely than topical formulations (Rogaine, and others) to cause hypertrichosis and pretibial edema, and the optimal dose has not been established. This is something that should be disclosed as a result of a fairly recent randomized control trial. On a related note, I would love to hear your thoughts on administration of sub-lingual minoxidil as it seems to have a better absorption rate since less of the drug is processed through the liver.

    Hello doctor!
    What is your opinion on 2.5mg dutasteride every day dose (yes you heard that correctly).
    There is a pretty big study showing that it is more efficacious than 0.5mg and that it inhibits scalp dht much more than the 0.5mg dose even if the serum dht inhibition is only slightly higher.
    I have no problems with 0.5mg ED so I'm not concerned about side effects.
    Thank you for your time.

    Oral minoxidil will always work better but the issue is it’s going to cause hair growth in places you don’t want, and that means more time shaving and etc

    • @jaminga123
      @jaminga123 Рік тому +2

      @Fabi oral minoxidil will not stop balding, u can take it all u want but you’ll still bald. Finasteride is the only medication that actually slows or stops balding. I know it sucks and i agree with u, but there is no other option. Hair transplant doesn’t work without finasteride either. It’s either u bald or finasteride pretty much

    • @jaminga123
      @jaminga123 Рік тому

      @Fabi Lol i know what minoxidil is i’m not stupid. It’s not a solution at all. All it does is promote nutrients / blood supply to your hair follicles. You will still bald on minoxidil. Male pattern baldness is because of DHT. Minoxidil will not do anything for that, only finasteride will!!

    • @jaminga123
      @jaminga123 Рік тому +3

      @Fabi yes finasteride does not always regrow hair. Minoxidil does work, I agree with you. But it does NOT stop balding. In 2-3 years you’ll still notice you’re balding on minoxidil. Most of the times you need to add finasteride. I’m not saying finasteride doesn’t have side effects. Of course it does. But it’s the only medication that truly helps prevent further balding.

    • @uwishtobeme2
      @uwishtobeme2 Рік тому +1

      @Fabi Brother if you would rather risk cardiovascular problems from taking oral minoxidil instead of the possible lower libido from finasteride (which goes away with dose titration or discontinued use) then you need to get your priorities in order. The sexual side effects from finasteride occur at an only slightly higher risk than placebo. You're free to take whatever risks you would like with your health, but I've never understood guys who take oral minoxidil instead of finasteride because of safety reasons.

    • @uwishtobeme2
      @uwishtobeme2 Рік тому +3

      @Fabi The scare stories online kept me away from finasteride for a long time. It's best to review the clinical data and form your own opinion. The drug is well tolerated and most people take it without experiencing a single side effect and simply move on with their lives. For example even at a 5mg dose of finasteride (which is far above the dose used for hairloss), the risk of developing gynecomastia is less than 0.3%- but the stories online would make you think that guys are growing boobies left and right just by looking at the stuff.
      Anyway, cheers mate. Best of luck on the hair restoration journey.

    I've been using minoxidil for 7 months and I had some regrowth but mainly at right side of my hairline, where my hairline is basicly shaping back. But at the left side not much has changed. So i wonder if it is normal and if the left side can grow back or not.

    Hello, I've been using 0.5 dutasteride a day for 1 year, I got the expected effect all over my hair, even in my crown area, new hair appeared, but I did not get the effects I expected in my front temple area. My question is, if I add 2.5 mg of oral minoxidil a day and continue on my way with dutasteride and quit oral minoxidil after 2 years, if I continue with dutasteride continuously, will the hair grown by oral minoxidil fall out? This is the most important question for me because of the fear of oral minoxidil, I would be very grateful if you could answer me.

But the empirical research seems to show certain dangers of using oral minoxidil. I would love if the Hair Loss Show made a long video on oral minoxidil especially with regards to the dangers, because many people are at the same time interested but also afraid of taking it (including myself). The video of Hair Cafe is the only reason I have not yet tried to source it.

    I just wish to dispel any of these rumours regarding oral minoxidil, I take 5 mg of oral minoxidil daily and have been doing so for the last year! I have had fantastic results!!!! I was taking topical minoxidil for five years putting on this sticky unpleasant lotion every night mixing it with Tretinoin and had little to no results. The majority of people will find that topical minoxidil will not work! For minoxidil to work it needs to be taken orally I work in an industry where I require physical examinations every six months to do my job (I work in the oil industry) and I have no issues with taking low dose oral minoxidil! Minoxidil does not kill people on this strength and I am laughing as I write this because all you people are scared by fear mongering idiots don’t you think there would be data showing the deaths of all these people who are taking oral minoxidil and having heart attacks or heart issues there is no data that shows Taking low-dose minoxidil is harmful in any healthy person!!!!
    Ps I don’t care what any of you do carry on listening to the scaremongers and sticking that disgusting stuff on your head every night!😂😂😂

      How long before results?

    • @christianblake3997
      @christianblake3997 Рік тому +4

      I would say it all depends on the individual! For me I noticed results within three months firstly my hair at the the front of my scalp started to get a lot denser after The three-month mark by about month five I noticed the mid-scalp thickening up and month six and seven the crown started to thicken! I must stress that I have no cardiovascular issues and I’m not a doctor so I feel obliged to say you need to get a full medical before taking any medication I do not want to be responsible for advising somebody who has health issues! The reason I took the plunge was because I had spent so long and had found the results ridiculously poor from taking topical minoxidil I got sick of getting up in the morning and sticking this stuff on my hair and then last thing at night having to do the same thing! Also the smell of the stuff still turns my stomach so I just decided to try oral minoxidil as I had seen first hand from a friend it was working for them as well as the convenience of just popping a pill once a day then just forgetting about it!
      I Must emphasise that I had a full medical due to my profession, I am a commercial air diver and by law I have to have a medical every six months more thorough than the usual medical by your doctor or GP so I can certainly claim for my own health anyway that not only did it work but it also caused no ill side-effects other than a mild headache for a few days but after that no problems!
      If you want to take this as a alternative I strongly suggest you get a full medical before going ahead just for sake of your own piece of mind. My only claim here is that everyone I have spoken to who took topical minoxidil had little to no progress and gave up after six months I battled on for nearly 2 years introducing Tretinoin to the mix and still had no improvement! Most people on UA-cam who claim to have achieved a thicker head of hair through topical minoxidil or what I would call extremely lucky and high-end responders, but for most people it doesn’t work and on top of all that it’s a pain to put on every day I wish you all the best and as I say I can’t speak for your health and you need to think about getting a Doctors opinion, but it’s working for me and I will continue taking it for as long as I want to keep my hair as well as obviously taking dutasteride at 0.5mg to block the DHT. All the best and stay safe…..but above all don’t ever rely upon anyone on UA-cam “You must go see your own Doctor first”

    • @christianblake3997
      @christianblake3997 Рік тому +6

      One point I’ve noticed in my original comment I stated I was taking topical minoxidil for five years that was a typo, I was taking topical minoxidil for a year and then watched Kevin Mann explain that if you add Tretinoin to the mixture it gives the minoxidil chance to bypass the barrier which I did for another year with no success whatsoever so that was all a load of rubbish as well I really get sick and tired of listening to UA-camrs talking absolute rubbish most of the time they are hyper responders themselves so it works for them so they automatically believe everybody will have the same experience that is complete bullshit! We are all unique we respond differently to all kinds of drugs and all kinds of things no two people are alike even twins can go bald at different times in their life due to many things such as hormone imbalance stress or the type of diet they’re on it’s not a black-and-white cut and dried solution you need to find your own data don’t listen to these UA-camrs most of them are selling something or if not they looking to get a patron which means They get an income so they can sit on their fat arse and wait for the money to roll in! I’m just trying to tell you how it is! I’ve been doing my own research for over 10 years and I’ve come to the conclusion there is no real cure for androgenic alopecia you can only slow the process down by blocking DHT in other words using finasteride or dutasteride and then taking a keto shampoo A couple of times a week but all in all you’re only slowing the process down there is no absolute cure, even having a hair transplant which I have had is only a chance to gain a bit more time to have some hair on your head! I used to watch a lot of Kevin Mann and more plates more dates but found them both to be more generic I.e. you take finasteride and you will never have to worry about losing your hair which is absolute bullshit, finasteride only blocks up to 75% of DHT so what happens to the other 25% also in blocking DHT you are not blocking testosterone in fact you are increasing it so all in all neither one of these men are medically trained, in fact I doubt they have had more than a high school education they just reading other peoples work who’s actually bothered to do the research and then they’re cherry picking I noticed more plates more dates Derek doesn’t post anything about hair restoration now because he hasn’t got any more information to pass on he’s not a doctor he doesn’t work in a laboratory, all their information has been gleaned from professionals who are still doing research the fact of the matter is the case for baldness and The Cure have been on the table for nearly 70 years and the so called experts are no nearer a cure! That should tell you something in itself!!!😂😂😂
