NIKKE is a great example of never judge a book by its cover. As while on the surface it seems like a usual hot girl gacha game but in reality it has great characters, badass music, and some deep deep lore.

The game usually talks about the first rapture invasion, makes you wonder if there were more invasions afterwards, like we pushed them back at first but then got overwhelmed later on before the ark was finished to be build
Probably. And I wonder if there's a reason why the military of the ark is currently what it is in the story. It's been mentioned in the story how raptures are highly adaptive creatures and they either get better or get worse depending on what they used to face. Ark sent the best and the brightest of the Military on their counter invasions at first they win but later on as the raptures kept adapting the military get stomped. Now the ark couldn't keep up with the losses so later on the quality of Commanders and the military went down hoping that maybe it could downgrade the raptures by sending what's basically cannon fodder

I always thought (since I first played through the story campaign) that the first Rapture invasion happened 50--60 years ago, during which humanity hurriedly built the Ark in order to hide and continue the war. The name of the war didn't give much context to me and figured I would learn more as I continue the campaign. I got stuck in Chapter 18, and soon the summer event "Sea, You Again" come up and Shifty mentions the Kraken being thought to have been destroyed a hundred years ago. That bit of new info caught me by surprise, thinking maybe the writers made a mistake, but then came to realize that maybe calling the invasion the "first" doesn't seem like a farfetched name after all. Now I'm curious just as you to know how many invasions humanity managed to thwart off before being forced underground.
All the lost sectors were suppose to be arks that got overun, but there have been multiple "wars" and invasions. It seems they don't consider the first appearance of the raptures as THE invasion. it's ~10 years from first contact they start using nikkes when humanity is pushed back hard is what they considered the invasion THE invasion maybe because the raptures started adapting and taking more land across the globe(imo raptures didn't have a queen till then as they were eating people, animals and etc). ~20 years after first contact they fail to breach the space elevator to get to the queen and that's when they start building the arks. would be nice for an official timeline, but that might limit room for more events during the past

ok nikke pretty much is just a game to jerk off to, like ok deep lore good story but if the game represent none of that the story dont matter much nikke is objectively a pretty bland and mediocre game. Its fine to love it but you still need to be aware of its flaws if not you are basically just dick riding
Dorothy is a tragic case, humanity pretty much took everything from her. We created the Raptures that devastated our world, forced her to become a nikke to fix our mistake. Even after giving everything she had and losing her closest friends, it was never enough. To top it all off, she was not given access to the so called last bastion of humanity in the Ark. Who wouldn’t want to kill the very object of their suffering after all that?
It's obviously that the first batch of Vapaus came from the legendary commander and the fact he's no where to be seen making it even more obvious that they lab ratt-ed him to death and red hood is the only witness. They could deal with 1 red hood but not his whole squad so not letting them in became their only option

There's a good chance that he also knew of the first legendary commander as well since he used to be a commander but after his nikke squad all died, he was promoted to general. Thr current missing piece of the puzzle is which Nikke generation Andersen squad was and The Big 3 started from. The oldest Nikke we have is Liter which was from the 4th gen, and latest is 9th gen including Folkwang and Epinel, Rei might be the 10th. Had we know the exact gen, we'd know how Ingrid knew about Red Hood and how Mustang knew about Heavenly Ascension. It's quite clear that Andersen despise the Central Government, but unlike Johan, he's fighting from the inside.

What if Red Hood hatred was provoked thanks to a mental break down because she witnessed ARKS high comand turning the legendary commander into tomato juice to make vapaus for the first time?
maybe she tried to rescued the commander. got damaged pretty badly but the ARK thought she would be useful in the future so they didn't destroy her completely, instead they seal her inside an obedient nikke they can control which turns out to be Rapi.
No ones know for now, and i dont think they did, the place they fond both original vapous/unchained bullets was on lost factories/bases. There may be a chance that the goddess commander was andersein or maybe his father, because he DID know about we/us/commander blood was special and ordered it the sample to be destroyed when they got some, and we are compatible with his blood.

The characters are expected to be weapons, to even acknowledge them as having feelings or be anything more than tools could cause a disastrous slip and turn those tools against humanity when or if the crisis they were created for passes. Hell in the MMO the character, at least in the begining, constantly berates the commander (the player) for being locked away in a safe area away from the conflicts and shows resentment for being looked down on as just a tool. She also chides you for constantly staring at her "assets" and forcing her to dress or undress in certain ways. League of Maidens story happens fairly early in the crisis so the stigma of being a weapon is just setting in, but it's fairly clear even this early on the upper military minds are worried that the Maidens with their massive power could be a threat and they absolutely come down hard on them when they fail to fully perform as weapons or let their humanity slip in, though the rank and file soldiers of the military have much more varied takes. Some share the weapon idea, some are angry or jealous, some are sympathetic, some like them, some REALLY like them.
If nikkes were real, they'd be terrifying. I can completely understand Nikkephobia. If anything, it isn't a phobia, but completely logical. In the real world if we had murder robots whose only thing stopping them from butchering us all was some mind control code... yeah, we'd all be against them. If anything the usual worship of Nikkes is unusual and wouldn't happen in the real world, just exists to have cute and hot girls treated well in the game world.
I've been really impressed with NIKKE's story so far. I'm a guns guy, so I started the game for that reason, but I've come to really appreciate the depth the writers are giving to the story in this game.
Lillyweiss was not the 1st nikke, but the prototype nikke. All details unknown. We couldn't even be sure if she was a nikke. Snow White, Rapunzel, Dorothy and Red Hood all belonged to the Fairytale model based on old European folklores, numbering from 02 to 05, with 01 lost to experimental failure. Cinderella, on the other hand, is the 1st nikke of the 2nd gen. Grimms model based on tales made popular by the Grimms brothers. Grimms model 02 and 03 were destroyed by Raptures during production process. Our beloved vice deputy's name is Andersen, as that of Hans Christian Andersen, not the common Anderson we expect to see. The name is changed from Fairytale-related Andersen to the common Anderson in both Japanese and Chinese text for unknown reason.
liliweiss was the first modern nikke , the basis for every other nikkes (looking more human while still being strong) there were earlier ones that looked inhuman, some even look like the dreadnoughts from warhammer 40k but functions the same as "iron coffins"
The only missing puzzle left to know of the Ark's past is timeline of Nikke Generation. Liter, the oldest nikke we have, being the 4th gen, and the latest gen (9th gen) including Folkwang and Epinel, as well as Rei possibly being the 10th is all way know. We'd understand about Andersen's past, how Ingrid knew Red Hood, and how Mustang knew Heavenly Ascension if we get the timeline of nikke gen.

Amazing video! I actually didn't know about the space elevator & that rapture descended from it in the beginning. I always wondered why we kept seeing it in the loading animation whenever the game was installing an update
The current event and this video made me look back and review Nier's lore, and I am surprised how many similarities these 2 series have. Now I'm starting to mix the lore of the 2 seeing if theory could actually stick.
I wanted the Nier Collab to suggest that Automata's timeline is simply the future of Nikke's one. I'd have at least loved to see something like Pascal and Chatterbox interacting, in a non-hostile manner, just Chatterbox wondering why is there a machine not under human nor rapture command.

my guess is that the Raptures had another Queen, but that one seeked a successor, and the only worthy successor she found was Lily. It also ties up with Enikk and Chatterbox's covenant, the reason Chatterbox demanded to be supplied with more Nikkes is because the raptures keep looking for a stronger one to show up to get a new queen, I guess it's their desire to keep evolving.
You mean, Humanity? Well, maybe that's debatable, but I can understand what you mean. That's why Side Story like Raptilion (The one that wanted to communicate and more understand about Raptures) is actually important. We gain more and more understanding about Raptures, when we follow her storyline. In other side, how human treat NIKKE is really bad. The 200 NIKKE Elevator Story, Admi's Bond Story, and of course, Overzone Event Story, showed how human view NIKKE.

I've just reached Chapter 23 in the main story, and I collected (and read) all of the lost relics. So, I pretty much knew the entire history up until this point. By now, we're up to chapter 26 in the story, but it'll be a while until I can get there. Though, I just got the New Age Frontier avatar frame, so I must be doing something right. Thanks for the full overview of the story, been curious about it. I only played Nikke for a month (this December) because I was bored, and some youtuber had raved highly about it. It was an okay experience. The story, music and voice acting were definitely the high notes of this game. Gameplay was a bit of a "eh.. it's a phone game" though I could see that there was some depth once you had more evenly balanced fights. but what ultimately killed my interest in playing more was the daily "chores" that I felt I should be doing as a player not paying any money. Also made me depressed that the story was "trapped" in a gacha game. Because I think Nikke could have been a really cool game where you fight to regain control of the surface, maybe with XCOM type combat or something similar, and after missions you'd have base building aspects to expand control and reach. Just want to reiterate, the voice acting was amazing. Even characters who had tropes that I typically find really annoying, was fine to me, or even endearing. At least Nikke made me finally try to finish a run in XCOM enemy within, despite having over 59 hours in it.

All these unfortunate ladies got the RoboCop treatment but a lot more brutal on the long-run. Also just gonna drop this, Scarlet has been named "Guren" in other localization versions, not sure if the Japanese version. But not sure what that name is supposed to represent. Quite impressive that despite not being part of the fairy tale like based Grimms model series she still lives for so long, the first Nikkes were made to last quite the hefty span
Scarlet & her sister are based on Korean folktale Janghwa & Hongryeon. Guren is probably the JP translation of Hongryeon About Nikke's lifespan, the same can be told about our daily life products. Items made 50-100 years ago were built to last, while contemporary manufacturers make products with what they called 'planned obsolescence'
I'm overall impressed in the direction they chose in making the, *ahem, certain appeal fundamentally making sense in the world of the surface being taken over. I would've had no idea the story was this well thought out. Amazing analysis.

You know everyone wants you to think the Raptures are Aliens but I to disagree that they are not cause if we look at the physicality and their designs I would say they're some king of Aquatic Organism the we found, tortured, turned in a resource and make a weapon and pretty muse use it to further in AI. What i mean here is the Standard Raptures minus the Heretics, which doesn't exactly count to some extent seeing they're just Nikkes that got corrupted , but most of the Base Raptures seem to have a design philosophy towards aquatic animals from the deepsea. Some look like sharks, sea horses, sea turtles, fish, jellyfish, crabs, urchins and sometimes Coral. So if my guess is whatever they did in that space elevator station, is mutated these sea creatures and the turned into cybernetic organics

Imagine all this happened BEFORE our Main character we play has is involved and there still alot we still dont know about important figures in all of the Rapture wars that has past. Rapture Origins is still mystery and the true motivations of the ARK main higher ups are still unknown. For now we are a rookie Commander with our own Nikke squad figuring out all these mysteries.

With the advent of the new event we now know what models the Goddess squad are, Grimms models. There were even 3 more being made, 1 being Cinderella and 2 unknown ones, with the 2 being slaughtered by raptures in a research base.

I played since day one bit abandoned the game sometime during Helm's banner. Don't think I had even completed chapter 5. Playing this Game since 8 weeks. The Characters are so well written. The Stories are so dark, so sad. I never played a Gacha Game which is so deep. Im really facinated.
taking a page from half-life lore where there was also an alien invasion the earth only lasted for 7 hours before all of the worlds nations collapsed under the combine (they also have eerily similar creatures called hunters)

i'm not convinced of the "Raptures are human creations" theory. while there have been peculiar designs when it comes to war machines in history, for the most part, they are designed using precedence. even the "new" things have had their tech prototyped in a discarded design somewhere. if Raptures were human creations, humanity would have had some means of fighting back using tech from a previous iteration. even an M60 TTS would pose some threat to an M1. instead, the human armies were wiped out. this signifies a gap in military power spanning several generations. it's likely that Nikke were created using whatever knowledge humanity gleaned from the Raptures they were able to destroy. corruption is possible due some compatibility to software. Raptures are full of BS tech, so things like new materials and energy sources would also explain why Nikkes can exist. the brain thing is probably the one piece humanity wasn't able to "replace".
you're right on the nikke part but the raptures possibly being man made is left on the air. because the lore told here is what we know so far. im saying that just because there's no solid on it that doesnt mean it is automatically false just yet.
One thing to consider is how advanced the AI might have been initially. If they were programmed to be very adaptable and to always seek out the most efficient and effective way to execute their directive, it’s possible that the raptures created the weapons they have now through several iterations on the original, less advanced tech.
I knew about the godess fall story but i dont remeber feom where was it a character story or was it the actual story i remeber anis talking about there being nikke ghost in the elevator after that incident.
to this day it's still so baffling how a borderline hentai gacha game can have such deep fucking lore and character backstories that legit make you cry. and don't even get me started on the shit where the game straight up says "did i just catch you tryna be happy?" like the "i'll wear my underwear underneath my clothes. i won't play with the flour." scene. or at the end of the BWI event when you have that talk with mary and it just gets deep as fuck. i never thought i would relate to a character on such a personal level until she said "i wouldn't go out of my way to save someone who is doomed to drown anyhow." but that just hit me so hard. and then the new years event with scarlet hit really hard too. mainly the scene where scarlet had to kill her own sister. now obviously i didn't kill my own sister or anything like that but it reminded me of when i lost my dad almost 5 years ago. the last thing he said to me was "remember that you and you alone control your fate and future. don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. be strong and don't lose hope just because i'm gone. i love you." just seconds before he died in my arms in the hospital. so when i played through that scene with scarlet holding rose and rose giving her that speech about being strong, i just instantly broke out into tears. overall, nikke is a horny game that's running a sheer emotional DPS union raid team.
Unfortunately, while I like this video, it does seem outdated now. With dialogue from Ch.25 and Ch.26, Goddess Squad was active 100 years ago with the Raptures invading 4 years prior to that.

Idk who 8 man is but the other 2 guys doesn’t apply. Nikkes are not only defined by well being a robot with a human brain but are also defined by their super powers. Take Mihara’s ability to share pain for example. The best one top of my head is Cyborg from DC not only is he mechanical but he also have supernatural powers from The mother box

Had we know the exact gen, we'd know how Ingrid knew about Red Hood and how Mustang knew about Heavenly Ascension.

What if Red Hood hatred was provoked thanks to a mental break down because she witnessed ARKS high comand turning the legendary commander into tomato juice to make vapaus for the first time?
maybe she tried to rescued the commander. got damaged pretty badly but the ARK thought she would be useful in the future so they didn't destroy her completely, instead they seal her inside an obedient nikke they can control which turns out to be Rapi.

Speculation so far. We don't know nothing of Red Hood other that she was part of Goddess Squad and went MIA for a long time.
No ones know for now, and i dont think they did, the place they fond both original vapous/unchained bullets was on lost factories/bases.
There may be a chance that the goddess commander was andersein or maybe his father, because he DID know about we/us/commander blood was special and ordered it the sample to be destroyed when they got some, and we are compatible with his blood.

The characters are expected to be weapons, to even acknowledge them as having feelings or be anything more than tools could cause a disastrous slip and turn those tools against humanity when or if the crisis they were created for passes.
Hell in the MMO the character, at least in the begining, constantly berates the commander (the player) for being locked away in a safe area away from the conflicts and shows resentment for being looked down on as just a tool. She also chides you for constantly staring at her "assets" and forcing her to dress or undress in certain ways.
League of Maidens story happens fairly early in the crisis so the stigma of being a weapon is just setting in, but it's fairly clear even this early on the upper military minds are worried that the Maidens with their massive power could be a threat and they absolutely come down hard on them when they fail to fully perform as weapons or let their humanity slip in, though the rank and file soldiers of the military have much more varied takes. Some share the weapon idea, some are angry or jealous, some are sympathetic, some like them, some REALLY like them.
If nikkes were real, they'd be terrifying. I can completely understand Nikkephobia. If anything, it isn't a phobia, but completely logical. In the real world if we had murder robots whose only thing stopping them from butchering us all was some mind control code... yeah, we'd all be against them. If anything the usual worship of Nikkes is unusual and wouldn't happen in the real world, just exists to have cute and hot girls treated well in the game world.
I think the Goddess Fall story may be pretty well known since its one of the first stories I encountered when entering the base 😊

Lillyweiss was not the 1st nikke, but the prototype nikke. All details unknown. We couldn't even be sure if she was a nikke.
Snow White, Rapunzel, Dorothy and Red Hood all belonged to the Fairytale model based on old European folklores, numbering from 02 to 05, with 01 lost to experimental failure. Cinderella, on the other hand, is the 1st nikke of the 2nd gen. Grimms model based on tales made popular by the Grimms brothers. Grimms model 02 and 03 were destroyed by Raptures during production process.
Our beloved vice deputy's name is Andersen, as that of Hans Christian Andersen, not the common Anderson we expect to see. The name is changed from Fairytale-related Andersen to the common Anderson in both Japanese and Chinese text for unknown reason.
liliweiss was the first modern nikke , the basis for every other nikkes (looking more human while still being strong) there were earlier ones that looked inhuman, some even look like the dreadnoughts from warhammer 40k but functions the same as "iron coffins"
The only missing puzzle left to know of the Ark's past is timeline of Nikke Generation. Liter, the oldest nikke we have, being the 4th gen, and the latest gen (9th gen) including Folkwang and Epinel, as well as Rei possibly being the 10th is all way know. We'd understand about Andersen's past, how Ingrid knew Red Hood, and how Mustang knew Heavenly Ascension if we get the timeline of nikke gen.

Amazing video! I actually didn't know about the space elevator & that rapture descended from it in the beginning. I always wondered why we kept seeing it in the loading animation whenever the game was installing an update
The current event and this video made me look back and review Nier's lore, and I am surprised how many similarities these 2 series have. Now I'm starting to mix the lore of the 2 seeing if theory could actually stick.
I wanted the Nier Collab to suggest that Automata's timeline is simply the future of Nikke's one.
I'd have at least loved to see something like Pascal and Chatterbox interacting, in a non-hostile manner, just Chatterbox wondering why is there a machine not under human nor rapture command.

my guess is that the Raptures had another Queen, but that one seeked a successor, and the only worthy successor she found was Lily. It also ties up with Enikk and Chatterbox's covenant, the reason Chatterbox demanded to be supplied with more Nikkes is because the raptures keep looking for a stronger one to show up to get a new queen, I guess it's their desire to keep evolving.
Key takeaway from all this: we were the monsters all along, not the Raptures.
You mean, Humanity? Well, maybe that's debatable, but I can understand what you mean. That's why Side Story like Raptilion (The one that wanted to communicate and more understand about Raptures) is actually important. We gain more and more understanding about Raptures, when we follow her storyline. In other side, how human treat NIKKE is really bad. The 200 NIKKE Elevator Story, Admi's Bond Story, and of course, Overzone Event Story, showed how human view NIKKE.

This Game man, it has such deep and heavy lore that it pains me most people label it as a T&B shooter(alto it kind of is...) and pass it without giving it a glance, One of the best stories many are missing.
I've just reached Chapter 23 in the main story, and I collected (and read) all of the lost relics. So, I pretty much knew the entire history up until this point. By now, we're up to chapter 26 in the story, but it'll be a while until I can get there. Though, I just got the New Age Frontier avatar frame, so I must be doing something right.

I only played Nikke for a month (this December) because I was bored, and some youtuber had raved highly about it. It was an okay experience. The story, music and voice acting were definitely the high notes of this game. Gameplay was a bit of a "eh.. it's a phone game" though I could see that there was some depth once you had more evenly balanced fights. but what ultimately killed my interest in playing more was the daily "chores" that I felt I should be doing as a player not paying any money.
Also made me depressed that the story was "trapped" in a gacha game. Because I think Nikke could have been a really cool game where you fight to regain control of the surface, maybe with XCOM type combat or something similar, and after missions you'd have base building aspects to expand control and reach.
Just want to reiterate, the voice acting was amazing. Even characters who had tropes that I typically find really annoying, was fine to me, or even endearing.
At least Nikke made me finally try to finish a run in XCOM enemy within, despite having over 59 hours in it.

Also just gonna drop this, Scarlet has been named "Guren" in other localization versions, not sure if the Japanese version. But not sure what that name is supposed to represent. Quite impressive that despite not being part of the fairy tale like based Grimms model series she still lives for so long, the first Nikkes were made to last quite the hefty span

About Nikke's lifespan, the same can be told about our daily life products. Items made 50-100 years ago were built to last, while contemporary manufacturers make products with what they called 'planned obsolescence'
I'm overall impressed in the direction they chose in making the, *ahem, certain appeal fundamentally making sense in the world of the surface being taken over.

You know everyone wants you to think the Raptures are Aliens but I to disagree that they are not cause if we look at the physicality and their designs I would say they're some king of Aquatic Organism the we found, tortured, turned in a resource and make a weapon and pretty muse use it to further in AI. What i mean here is the Standard Raptures minus the Heretics, which doesn't exactly count to some extent seeing they're just Nikkes that got corrupted , but most of the Base Raptures seem to have a design philosophy towards aquatic animals from the deepsea. Some look like sharks, sea horses, sea turtles, fish, jellyfish, crabs, urchins and sometimes Coral. So if my guess is whatever they did in that space elevator station, is mutated these sea creatures and the turned into cybernetic organics

Imagine all this happened BEFORE our Main character we play has is involved and there still alot we still dont know about important figures in all of the Rapture wars that has past. Rapture Origins is still mystery and the true motivations of the ARK main higher ups are still unknown. For now we are a rookie Commander with our own Nikke squad figuring out all these mysteries.

With the advent of the new event we now know what models the Goddess squad are, Grimms models. There were even 3 more being made, 1 being Cinderella and 2 unknown ones, with the 2 being slaughtered by raptures in a research base.
"Grimms models" looks more like a localization error than anything.

I played since day one bit abandoned the game sometime during Helm's banner. Don't think I had even completed chapter 5. I had other time-consuming games to play, so I had kinda forgotten about the game until laos month. Now I'm kinda bummed I missed Overzone lol.

i'm not convinced of the "Raptures are human creations" theory. while there have been peculiar designs when it comes to war machines in history, for the most part, they are designed using precedence. even the "new" things have had their tech prototyped in a discarded design somewhere.
if Raptures were human creations, humanity would have had some means of fighting back using tech from a previous iteration. even an M60 TTS would pose some threat to an M1. instead, the human armies were wiped out. this signifies a gap in military power spanning several generations.
it's likely that Nikke were created using whatever knowledge humanity gleaned from the Raptures they were able to destroy. corruption is possible due some compatibility to software. Raptures are full of BS tech, so things like new materials and energy sources would also explain why Nikkes can exist. the brain thing is probably the one piece humanity wasn't able to "replace".
you're right on the nikke part but the raptures possibly being man made is left on the air. because the lore told here is what we know so far. im saying that just because there's no solid on it that doesnt mean it is automatically false just yet.
One thing to consider is how advanced the AI might have been initially. If they were programmed to be very adaptable and to always seek out the most efficient and effective way to execute their directive, it’s possible that the raptures created the weapons they have now through several iterations on the original, less advanced tech.
I knew about the godess fall story but i dont remeber feom where was it a character story or was it the actual story i remeber anis talking about there being nikke ghost in the elevator after that incident.

to this day it's still so baffling how a borderline hentai gacha game can have such deep fucking lore and character backstories that legit make you cry. and don't even get me started on the shit where the game straight up says "did i just catch you tryna be happy?" like the "i'll wear my underwear underneath my clothes. i won't play with the flour." scene. or at the end of the BWI event when you have that talk with mary and it just gets deep as fuck. i never thought i would relate to a character on such a personal level until she said "i wouldn't go out of my way to save someone who is doomed to drown anyhow." but that just hit me so hard. and then the new years event with scarlet hit really hard too. mainly the scene where scarlet had to kill her own sister. now obviously i didn't kill my own sister or anything like that but it reminded me of when i lost my dad almost 5 years ago. the last thing he said to me was "remember that you and you alone control your fate and future. don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. be strong and don't lose hope just because i'm gone. i love you." just seconds before he died in my arms in the hospital. so when i played through that scene with scarlet holding rose and rose giving her that speech about being strong, i just instantly broke out into tears.
overall, nikke is a horny game that's running a sheer emotional DPS union raid team.

Unfortunately, while I like this video, it does seem outdated now. With dialogue from Ch.25 and Ch.26, Goddess Squad was active 100 years ago with the Raptures invading 4 years prior to that.

Idk who 8 man is but the other 2 guys doesn’t apply. Nikkes are not only defined by well being a robot with a human brain but are also defined by their super powers. Take Mihara’s ability to share pain for example. The best one top of my head is Cyborg from DC not only is he mechanical but he also have supernatural powers from The mother box
