I've always loved this movie, such a unique idea and story. When it came out, it had a website that you could explore more about the world. I don't know if it's still around, but basically each of the dolls represents a part of the scientist. I can't remember them all, but there was curiosity, bravery, and so on. Apparently, 9 was hope, which was the last part the scientist could give, which is why he died right after imparting it to 9.
One of my favorite movie. Was released in 9-9-2009. Same year as District 9, transformers ROTF, Avatar, Inglorious bastards, 2012, terminator salvation, cloudy with achance of meatballs. And more
This movie breaks my heart every single time, it’s also one of those movies you watched as a kid and SWORE blind nobody else had ever heard of or seen. So underrated.
I personally viewed the "magic" in this world as alchemy, like in Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, due to the more scientific aspect it portrayed, being primarily based on the law of equivalent exchange. To get something, you have to give something. The scientist had to give his soul to bring them to life. It also took that life-giving talisman to take back the energy that powered that machine. This movie is certainly a hidden gem. I'm glad you reacted to it.
The commercials for this used to have the Coheed and Cambria song Welcome Home playing and it was pretty cool, this movie was always too long I would always fall asleep, but it's an awesome movie. I love the character designs and story
"such potential, such promise"... the intro narration sums up the movie well... as it did have such potential and such promise, yet it failed to deliver (the movie wasn't bad, but it could have been incredible, too bad)
"This is so not a kids movie." I love animation and it's a shame it's thought of as a kid oriented medium. It bugs me so much when people refer to animation as a genre, not that anyone here is. You can make any genre with animation. Fantasy, western. Post apocalyptic super natural machine. Whatever you want. Movies like this are great examples of a "grown up" story that you can make with animation. It also feels more like art. Sure it' doesn't have the sheen and polish of a Frozen or Soul. But if it's more about the art then you don't need the animation to be hyper realistic. Which is nice but there's no where to go with it. Make it look as real as possible. Okay. You get The Lion King remake. Realistic animals talking. That's just weird. IMO. And making it documentary style is so boring. That's why I love what the show Arcane and the Spider-Verse movies are doing. Art, not just visually but with story telling as well. Camera angles, writing all of it. Animation allows for such creativity. Also great point about only big budget movies are made now. A movie like this would catch on after theatrical release, perhaps becoming a cult classic. Making money in the second wave with DVD sales. Streaming has all but killed that. And the residuals actors, writers and small producers would get following. Since there are no DVD sales there is just no reason for a studio to take a chance on something that won't light the box office up. There are good video essays about it, but the mid tier movies are all gone. Such a shame. I know indie films are still able to get made, but they are almost all live action. I wonder how many amazing stories animation could be telling right now but to be ignored all for studios chasing trends. Also when you chase a trend you have no creativity because you are so focused on what is popular now.
You have mature rated animated movies from other countries or Asia that deal with a lot of heavy themes and subject matter. You should check out Unicorn Wars or Mary and Max in terms of mature animated movies.
I don’t understand why it’s so taboo in the west to have mature animated films in theaters. I mean they did an animated Spider-Man and now “transformer one”. Those are prefect animated movies for a PG-13 rating but studios are afraid that they will lose money.
@@GreatgunYu It's mostly due to the fact that animation within America still has this stigma of being " Only for children" or considering what's been going on with the animation industry lately nowadays, animation as a medium is still heavily disrespected and not seen as a valuable artform or an medium for storytelling that can be for a variety of age groups. You do got mature indie cartoons or animated short films online that can adult-themed, as for movie theaters, only adult animated movie that I think of that's been in theaters in recent years is Sausage Party.

@@JVsGalacticAdventures Jennifer Connelly was in Star Trek? I don't know if that's right. But she was in Labyrinth. And Requiem for a Dream. And Winter's Tale
@@JVsGalacticAdventures also 8 was voiced by Fred Tatascoire he’s been well known for voicing the Hulk himself in a lot of animated Marvel content and he voiced Ben 10,000 from Ben 10 Og as well as Solomon Grundy from DC
If you're looking for more mature animated films, it's safe to say that the works of Ralph Bakshi may be of interest. Interestingly, themes of technological critique are explored in his film "Wizards" (arguably his most accessible movie).
Except “Fritz the Cat”, that movie is so bad, those unnecessary sex scenes made me think I watching a pornography film instead of a animated feature film.
We need to get more mature animated movies out in theaters. I don’t get why studios are so afraid to push an animated film with a PG-13. So much potential in having more little edgy to them. I do like Some R-rated animated films but don’t put so much drugs, sex, not full of profanity and edgy humor for the sake of being able too.
I always interpreted the ending as him using his soul to return life to the world. Humanity may not return, but life will
He definitely said "You owe me a cape" captions cant be trusted
"one must be sacrificed." Said by one just before sacrificing himself
1 the leader
2 the inventor
3/4 twins
5 the mechanic
6 the painter
7 the warrior
8 the bodyguard
9 newcomer

I'd recommend Control as a good game to play. Make sure you read everything you collect
This is so crazy, I randomly watched other people react to this film again earlier today for the first time in months and now you upload your own!
I been asking for this movie for 2 years now, thank you I knew you would like this movie.
Yes, been waiting years for this one!

An absolutely underrrated gem of a film.
And life will find a way

This is why I love this movie. It was 3 years ago I've been watching Very years.
I use to cry so much.
Okay, from what I know, Tim Burton WASN'T the director, he was one of the producers.
Oh cool, thanks

No one reacts to this amazing film!!! I'm so happy to see it here ❤
Grew up watching it and love it
The villain you talking about from portal is Glados. Genetic lifeform and disc operating system
(At 24:22) Wizard? You mean Bishop?
Haven’t seen the video yet but yes!! It IS underrated!! And it traumatised me as a kid beyond words!!
Definitely not a movie for little kids! 😨
9 is my favourite movie and the characters has good design.
7 was voiced by Jennifer Connelly believe it or not
Really! 🙂 I didn't know that. Thanks. One of my favorite Star Trek characters

This always reminded me of Tool music videos lol
Glados from portal
imagine if the machine was found in marvel, yikes
I just noticed the creature looks like a Minion
9😢
I aways interpret the character as a 'pope', not a 'wizard'...
please you should watch tittle: sinbad legend of the seven seas
