This was one of your best videos ever! Love that you went back to basics. I'm hoping you are planning to continue on that route, as I have a request. I've watched probably 5,000 videos on DnD over the years, and I realized I've never seen a channel do real examples of combat. It's pretty crazy, but I actually looked and can't find much. I would love if you could do a series of videos - one for each class - where you set up a couple minis and play out a real 2-on-2 fight to show examples of combat. Like a Monk video where the Monk and some other random party member fight 2 goons, and you can go through actual turns for each character, but specifically zero in on the Monk's abilities. That way, we can get to know Flurry of Blows, Step of the Wind, healing abilities, wall walking, etc. Then a video for Paladins, so we can see how smites work. And a video for Druids with examples of wildshaping. And so on and so forth. Just little 10-15 minute fights that show off what each class can do. Anyway, just an idea that I think you'd totally crush. Keep kicking ass, and I'll keep watching and enjoying!
I’m going to be running my first D&D campaign with friends and they haven’t played before. This is a well made video to help. Thank you! Been following your channel for a couple of weeks and love your videos! It’s been helping me a lot to learn how to be a DM.
I'm sharing this video with my sister. She's planning my baby's first bday party (d&d themed) but has never played before. This will give her more context (and hopefully makes her want to play!)
Tip for that new player in the table: give them a set of dice where each dice is of a different color. That way, you can say "Roll a d10, it's the red dice".
None of this would have made sense to me before playing BG3 but i understood pretty much all the terms and still learnt stuff, thank you for this video. If only my friends wanted to play d&d.
I gotta say those mimic looks SO AWESOME! and i also genuinely think you should totally keep carrying that sword with you and it's totally not intimidating at all!!
Thank you, I can already see this video being very useful to maybe, hopefully, finally get some of my friends to join me in playing. I especially like that you made a lot of small examples, because I often find that it can be tough for people to imagine what a game looks like, if they don't watch actual plays and showing them some of these - often monstrous long videos - can be so daunting to folks.
The recurring "segway here" was absolute perfection! 😂 This video also comes at a great time. I've introduced many new players to D&D but it's been so long since I've done that and I don't feel as confident. Have a few people wanting to try the game so it's time to run them a game
Love how simple and straightforward this was! Going to be running a game for some brand-new players soon and I think I'll send this their way! Also, I need to know: how long did it take to pick up all the dice you pushed off the desk?! Appreciate the commitment to the bit 👏😂
Friends are pressuring me to learn how to be a dungeon master so I can run games for them. Now I’m about to dive into Ginny playlist rabbit hole after seein this video to help get me started 😅
I remember my first time playing, back in college (around 2012 or so). I think it was 3.5e at the time. I skimmed through the races/classes to end up with a Gnome Bard. When the game started, we had 6 players, with me and one other player being new. When the DM asked what I was doing in the tavern, I cracked a joke, saying I was in the corner masturbating. He asked if the bartender could see me and told me to roll. I got thrown out hard enough to lose a few HP. That's when I realized, "Oh... I can do ANYTHING in this game." Cut to one of our early quests, and I'm shredding on a summoned keytar to distract a wraith in a mansion, while the last few members of the party struggled to properly jump out the second story window with bedroll parachutes (we were stealing a scroll of some kind). My distraction ended, and I Nat 20'd my attempt to crash into them, getting us all through the window, then flipping in the air and sticking the landing causing the wraith to smash it's head through the next window over to cheer. Then I face-planted a few attempts at hopping the fence to escape with the party. That game didn't last too long. Probably 6-10 sessions, before people got distracted with other stuff. So I didn't play d&d since then, until Covid, when my brother-in-law's friends were starting up a game on discord. We only played two hour-long sessions before the DM went MIA, so I went back to nothing until they got a different group to play in person earlier this year. We have periods of hiatus due to peoples' lives, but we're actually playing, so I'm fine with the sporadic schedule.
10:42 When you pushed all those dice off the table I seized up. All those lost dice! There is going to be some poor little die that lives on the floor forever now, hopefully not a d4 waiting for revenge.

This video is so great. Explaining the basics of the game is such a difficult thing to do clearly AND making it sound as fun as it really is.
I really love the format of these videos. I’m such a nerd for this game and I find it comforting. 😊
I'm starting a game with a bunch of friends who are first-time players soon, this is PERFECT! Thank you for making this!!!!
Ginny scolding the mimics absolutely KILLED me 😭😂
This is SO good. SO clear! Thank you!! greetings from Argentina!
I've been Playing since I was 13. Dming since I was 18. Now 41 years later i can say You're a great and funny creator. Really great Videos .
Tip for that new player in the table: give them a set of dice where each dice is of a different color. That way, you can say "Roll a d10, it's the red dice".
Multiple laugh-out-loud moments. Ginny, these keep getting better and they're already more entertaining than half the things on Netflix.
I bet sweeping all those dice off the table was fun and satisfying!
None of this would have made sense to me before playing BG3 but i understood pretty much all the terms and still learnt stuff,
thank you for this video. If only my friends wanted to play d&d.
Ginnyyyyyyyyyyy this is so perfect! I’m DMing for a new group soon and needed an easy explanation of the game ❤❤❤
I gotta say those mimic looks SO AWESOME!
and i also genuinely think you should totally keep carrying that sword with you and it's totally not intimidating at all!!
Thank you, I can already see this video being very useful to maybe, hopefully, finally get some of my friends to join me in playing. I especially like that you made a lot of small examples, because I often find that it can be tough for people to imagine what a game looks like, if they don't watch actual plays and showing them some of these - often monstrous long videos - can be so daunting to folks.
im finally playing D&D soon with some others from my uni's D&D society and this video is *perfect* timing!!
It's nice seeing the mimics again. And I LOVE ALL Ginny Di videos!
This is perfecttttt I just started a D&D club at my school!
The recurring "segway here" was absolute perfection! 😂
This video also comes at a great time. I've introduced many new players to D&D but it's been so long since I've done that and I don't feel as confident. Have a few people wanting to try the game so it's time to run them a game
A segue is a rhetorical device. A Segway is a brand of two-wheeled transportation.
@461weavile Thanks for the info
Me who has only just recently gotten to play D&D: Eh I'll still watch this why not i love Ginny!
This is awesome, thank you for the short version and for making it fun to watch.
I tried getting my parents into DnD a year or so ago, and I wish this video existed back then!! Thanks so much for this!!!
Love how simple and straightforward this was! Going to be running a game for some brand-new players soon and I think I'll send this their way!
Also, I need to know: how long did it take to pick up all the dice you pushed off the desk?! Appreciate the commitment to the bit 👏😂
Some say I'm still picking them up to this day 😅
5:45 I felt so seen, our big beefy barbarian insists on having a conversation with every single animal like he's some kind of Disney princess 😂
This is great thank you Ginny! I’m starting a few new players next week and this is perfect to send them ❤
That fourth wall breaking smirk after throwing the dice off the table...
Friends are pressuring me to learn how to be a dungeon master so I can run games for them. Now I’m about to dive into Ginny playlist rabbit hole after seein this video to help get me started 😅
Welcome to the rabbit hole! 😅
@ thanks, found my self takin notes and puns and highlighted don’t be an anus to each other so far 10/10 would recommend 😂 awesome playlist
I can do ANYTHING in this game."
Cut to one of our early quests, and I'm shredding on a summoned keytar to distract a wraith in a mansion, while the last few members of the party struggled to properly jump out the second story window with bedroll parachutes (we were stealing a scroll of some kind).
Ok, now to rewatch and NOT look at the candle flame for the entirety 😂
those wooden wicks really do go HAM 😂
This was so helpful as a DM who’s trying to into a new player! Thanks Ginny!
