The English, Welsh and Scottish also do the same. Also I guess the Yanks, and maybe some Mediterranean European countries also sit drinking wine in taverns during the day. Either way, it’s great fun regardless.

Don’t know if you’ve seen this before
Before the 1960s, when Guinness adopted the current system of delivery using a nitrogen/carbon dioxide gas mixture, all beer leaving the brewery was cask-conditioned. Casks newly delivered to many small pubs were often nearly unmanageably frothy, but cellar space and rapid turnover demanded that they be put into use before they could sit for long enough to settle down. As a result, a glass would be part filled with the fresh, frothy beer, allowed to stand a minute, and then topped up with beer from a cask that had been pouring longer and had calmed down a bit.[83] With the move to nitrogen gas dispense in the 1960s, it was felt important to keep the two-stage pour ritual in order to bring better consumer acceptance of the modern nitrogen-based delivery. As Guinness has not been cask-conditioned for decades, the two-stage pour has been labelled a marketing ploy that does not actually affect the beer's taste.

Good video. A lot of the ratings for Guinness online are based on user experience in the pubs, the craic, atmosphere etc. rather than actual taste. Guinness quality control is very tight before it leaves the gate. There will be tiny differences batch to batch, but the biggest contributer to taste difference is how long it's been in the keg. All beers change over time. If you had a fresh keg of Guinness and you drank a pink on day 1 and had another pint on day 10 from the same keg, it would taste slightly different. So, if you're used to drinking in a pub that turns over a lot of Guinness, you'll be used to tasting it fresh. I brew stouts at home, and the difference between my stouts on the day of kegging versus 10 days after, or ever 20 days after is very apparent. Fresh stouts tend to have more pronounced roasted coffee flavours, which smoothen out over days and weeks. Different people will have different preferences for stout. Some will rate it highly if the flavours are young and bold. Others will rate it highly if the flavours meld into a smoother drinking experience. I enjoy Guinness, but I'd be the first to admit for the real stout drinkers, Beamish is king. Flavours are far more robust, and linger in the throat for longer. There are pronounced flavours of coffee and toasted toasted notes. Guinness is brewed to be lighter for more mass appeal, and to be fair it has gained a wide audience. Try the taste challenge..in this exact order...drink a pint of Beamish, then follow with a pint of Guinness. You'll be surprised to find that Guinness tastes watery and quite flavourless by comparison. Just try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Bittles bar is a crackin boozer and the Guinness was spot on, beautiful stuff. Loved Maddens , proper old school watering hole , good craic in there and the Guinness was beautiful, I'd say slightly better than Bittles but toss of a coin really.
Best pints I had all week though were are Brennan's Bar next to the crown and a place just outside Belfast at off licence and wine shop called Crafty Vintner. Wasn't really holding out too much hope for that place but it was absolute cream.
The crown is a great pub but found the Guinness bang average to be fair

Was up in Belfast from Dublin today .Lots of people had the same idea .The train was fairly full .That first pub Kellys had a reasonable pint but had a rather small head from the get go .Your assessment was spot on .They charge £5.27 which i thought rather high .The Maddens does look nice inside and they do have a small outdoor seating area .The pint just £4 but they do not take Debit cards so i had to pass on that ,as i do not carry Sterling currency .B.T.W Wetherspoons Bridge st charge just £3.65 for a pint of Guinness and its ok .
