BLA Modded my M-Audio interface years ago, it was amazing after. Later, I got the B173 but still after a replacement, it was so noisy I had to move on fast. I was hesitant to try the Bluey, but man its awesome. Now i'm back on the BLA wagon. I love my Bluey.
Chris’s OG 1176 has much more air and top end sizzle than the BLA Bluey. Like a lot. Bummer. What a salesman though. I was sold until I heard the difference.
Bluey is rounder. It's like a solid cylinder sitting the vocal in the mix. Remarkable. I hope I got my $16 worth at today's Black Friday sale. 🤠

It seems we do identify a difference, even on youtube on an ipad. The question is if this makes the copy less valuable. I am looking for an affordable compressor and sometimes you just don’t know anymore what will make you happy with your own recordings which is what matters. Comparing too much can also become hurtful to your quest for a good sound.
Playing this on an iPhone and hear some differences but the price point does get people into the ballpark.

I like CLA. I like his hype. I have many of his plug ins. I also just bought this unit, and am listening to this for fun as I'm unboxing and installing it.
But you know what I hate? He keeps calling this a LIMITER throughout the video.
Technically it can be. Classic definition of limiter is any compressor that can do 10:1 or higher, and this one can.
Even UA’s sales literature called it a peak limiter: Billed in the 1968 release as a “true peak limiter with all transistor circuitry and superior performance on all types of program material," the 1176’s major selling point was its ultra-fast attack time - a mere 20 µS (.00002 seconds) at its fastest setting.

Well, I guess Mr Alge has the affliction that plagues most of us long time engineers...A hearing loss in the high frequencies. That explains why he can't hear any difference between the original and the Bluey! Mitch Gallagher either has the same hearing loss, or he's pretending he can't hear any difference.
If only it had a SC HPF. The agression this unit can bring to drums really calls for it. A missed opportunity in my opinion.
