Get some emery tape on the bearing surfaces and whack a glaze buster in the boars it'll be fine. Look forward to seeing more of this and all the work from your workshop.
AEC were supplied by Dominion Mtrs in NZ in the 70’s and 80’s. Especially Mammoth Majors. A true million miler. The V8 was problematic in the Mandator as development was rushed at the factory. From what I recall Dominion Mtrs gave away a free V8 engine with every new Mandator just to clear their stock . Hardly any got over 30 000 miles with the steep terrain around the country, especially logging country .
I can well imagine that to be the case, it would have faired better with a Road Ranger or other close ratio box. Cobbled together by Leyland to make do whilst squanding million on the ailing car side of BL. We fitted a RoadRanger to our preserved V8 and it transformed it.
3 of the blokes who taught me during my apprenticeship, plus my dad, always spoke about the old trucks of the 70s and 80s, especially about the v8 mandator. Heard so much about them it's like I worked on them. Any progress on this? Would love to see some more videos. Ta.
Thanks for viewing and commenting. Yes, this project is now completed engine wise, and there will be more to come on here eventually. But in the meantime enjoy this. www.flickr.com/photos/75262259@N03/32861368945
When I finally get round to putting the next video in this series together you'll see what should have been a world beater, but in the meantime click on this link [www.aronline.co.uk/facts-and-figures/not-their-finest-hour-aec-leyland-740-800-series-v8-diesel/ ] it conveys the story better than I ever could in such a small space. well done lads, more patient than me thats for sure

Thanks mate and don't forget a bit of glue on the liner, ha, plenty more to come.
nice to see part 2 lads
I know it's been awhile but I've had a meltdown with the old laptop with a lot of material on it.

Can I ask.....Did Leyland have there own V8 for the ARC or are we looking at a Perkins V8.
All very interesting guys.
Super Mastiff had the V8 Perkins, of which ARC had a few mixers. I looked after one.
What is your personal preference of lorry? Mine is Foden or ERF
Same as you mate, and I do like AEC's as well. As long as it's not foreign I'm happy.

SMayleification. Thanks. Sounds and looks good.
It's like the Triumph Stag V8. Sounds wonderful but with issues. At least the Stag V8 can be made to work well. What about this one?
Check it out.

SMayleification this was a few years ago is it going back into a tractor unit to do some work
no new up loads for a long time how are the s95s going.
Time off over Christmas so I'll put something together.
Slow on the Foden, engine nearly finished and ready for painting.
How many AEC Mandator V8's are left?
Around a dozen or more in various states of repair, that said I have three and a half here.
part 3 now please lads
Ha, keep the faith my friend. I've been meaning to get some more put together but you know how it is, never enough time.
no worries im a patient man thanks for the swift response
Are liners pressed in?
Yes, dry liners like most of the AEC engine range.
How's progress on the engine?

It runs beautifully.
Good idea to use 3 engines to make a good one. Parts must be extinct now.
Looks like that engine had a hard life!
And a painful death !
Why did they have such a bad reputation then?

SMayleification yes I did read it thanks, what a shame as it could of been a great engine!
Looks like the engine failed in a big way. Can't be many surviving V8 Mandators now.
About a dozen at the last count.
