I played Mechwarrior 5 recently, and pretty sure he voices a secondary NPC in that... and it's weird because I keep hearing Adam, but the character doesn't fit haha !
I always found the Holden - Amos scene interesting. "Take it if you need it." Then after, brushing it off like it was nothing, with no grudge. Because Amos knows it isn't personal, it is just what Holden needed to do. BTW there is youtube vlog with Wes Chatham (actor for Amos) and Ty Franck (One of authors of the book), called "Ty and That Guy". They do episode discussions, interviews with cast and crew together.
Nerdy dads unite. Thanks for sticking with The Expanse, it's absolutely a show for thinking people. You've done the work of getting up the big hill, now enjoy the rest of the coaster.
Regards the birds on Cere's, they are just regular birds (Sparrows?) but the low gravity (1/3 earths) means they don't have to flap their wings nearly so much, quite lovely to watch in action.
She COULD have told his mother about the hit... But that would have been direct treason. So she had to remain silent on that point even though she had just promised Holden's Mom that he was ok
You have quickly become one of my favorite Expanse reactors! You getting sucked into the rabbit hole! But I'm all here for it! Without spoiling anything I will say that there are many things in this episode that are very important! I too absolutely loved the sparing between Chrisjen and Holden's mom! So good! The interaction between Amos and Holden was very interesting. Would Holden really pull the trigger? To Amos it didn't matter! Either way he wasn't going to be taken by the Martians! Becoming obsessed with this show? I don't believe that! I love this show!! It's not a problem for me!! Maybe for everyone around me, but not me! You got me hooked on your reactions! Looking forward to the next one!
Got 'em! She's hooked, guys 😁 I shall neither confirm nor deny your speculations. Kenzo is the asset Chrisjen blackmailed Davila for. That's how she knows where Holden is.
Amos is one of my all-time favorite characters. The show is fantastic at revealing more and more layers to his character over the course of the series. Wes Chatham was fuckin born for this role.
Ahaha! Got hooked! 😁 The Roci is a character in the show for sure. Oh and there's a short story called The Churn - you can find it on the net. Peeing in a suit - coming up!
Cervantes = Miguel de Cervantes; the man who wrote Don Quixote, which is where where he got the name Rocinante ("No Longer a Workhorse") which is the name of Quixote's horse.
Well, if you are intrigued now I can't wait for your reaction on later episodes and seasons. :-) From episode eight this show starts its strenghts at full. Frankly, when I watched your reaction for first two episodes I have got the feeling you won't stay with the show for long. I am so glad I was wrong. Can't wait for your next ep. Thumbs up and welcome to Screaming Firehawks. Edit: Amos is my favorite as well. In time you will get to know what molted him the way he is.
Love seeing the intro where "The Expanse" finally takes over! It'll never let go and you'll probably end up rewatching the show (maybe not since as a Reactor you're already rewatching it as you edit and go back looking for details)! Til this day I still think of The Expanse randomly but especially the music by Clinton Shorter (just brilliant stuff throughout the series, especially the lovely longer intro)! I never watched "Reactors" until The Expanse which allows me to enjoy the show all over again through another person's eyes (the shock, growing in love with the show, the jaw dropping moments, the tears, etc)!
Wrt Avasarala saying it's personal, she's willing to marshall her emotions for the cause. Yes, she harbors a grudge, but she only indulges it when it's useful.
In the beginning you mentioned that you weren't thrilled that the art on the ship was a women in bed but remember when discussing the name Amos said "I knew a woman named Rocinante....she was good to me..." so I think that has something to do with it.
Yes. For Amos, prostitution is an honorable profession. For that matter, there's no indication in the story that anyone holds prostitutes in particular contempt.
Also, if you go back and look at WWII bombers, they just about all had pin-up art. As the Rocci is a salvaged Martian warship, I think this could be a nod back to that time. BTW, loving the reactions to this, Invincible, and the movies lately (Deadpool and John Wick), actually really enjoying your reactions overall. I think you mentioned you are doing Legend of Vox Machina next....can't wait.
Space vs Ocean... In space you're on a timer, if you are not rescued by the time your oxygen runs out, you are dead. But there are no sharks, so there's that. ;-]
Great analysis. One of the greatest scifi shows out there. And the books are just slightly different enough to be just as interesting, even after watching the show. If that tickles your fancy, then just know that every season is the equivalent of one book.
@@sigzil1985 Oh my god the books and audiobooks especially have so so so much more dimension than the streaming series. And there are novellas that give so much more detail to the world building of the Expanse. I listened to quite a few Expanse audiobooks. Ghost Busters car was a ambulance. Back before paramedics ambulances were for grab and go with little care on route. All you need is to get a stretcher in and out quickly so similar to a hearse.
Amos is such a wonderful character. He's not the sharpest pencil but he knows that about himself, that's why he relies on Naomi so much and his other abilities. He's product of violent environment but good guy in his heart.
I'm guessing camera eye guy is the spy Avasarala wanted to make use of a few episodes ago. She was asking that man for a spy while bringing up his son was up for parole. And spy eye guy did see Holden at Tycho Station.
There's nothing to guess about. If it wasn't obvious before, Errinwright confirmed it in this episode. Not to mention the fact that Fred wouldn't need anyone to spy for him on Tycho station. He has access to all the security cameras.
There ain't nobody on Ceres thats had a proper shower since episode 1. Their shower water had been delivered by the Canterbury, and it's a tad radioactive atm
I smiled when you said Miller seems like he smells like fish... In 1999, that actor was in "Deep Blue Sea" where he is ultimately eaten by a gigantic, sentient shark! lol
I think about the finale of Book 1 (***) almost daily in my life... It is absolutely the most beautiful episode of television I have seen in my entire life. And it makes me cry every time.
If anything, Shoreh Ashgadloo plays a somewhat slightly more toned down Chrisjen Avasarala on the show. In the books she's depicted as more cut-throat, and more......how shall we say?.........B-word-ey,.....and way way waaaaay more on the sailor-lexicon word-choice side of the spectrum. (i.e. curses a hell of a whole lot more. To be fair to show Chrisjen, at this point the show was still on Sy-Fy channel (Sci-Fi) back then, and they had only so much freedom to portray her accurately on a broadcast channel. Once the show as acquired by Amazon in later seasons, she gets to let loose a lot more with the cursing and you get a more book-faithful Chrisjen Avasarala.)
Woohoo! John Wick yesterday, then Expanse today. Two of my favorite movies/shows. You are on a roll !!! Love watching your analysis of the shows. You are pretty spot on about Amos. He might be my favorite character of any show ever.
Diogo's uncle left him "on the float," and the biggest concern is that you are just falling forever through an empty void with a small hope that someone will pick up your distress beacon and find you before your run out of breathable oxygen.
16:38 "...Birds in the Belt are weird...." Blame it on the the artificial gravity. It's a close approximation to Earth's...but hardly close enough. Hence, their eerie(( one might say ghostly? )) manner of hovering and flight.
I'm happy I found your channel because you approach shows and movies very similarly to how I do. And it's funny, because deadpool was actually the video that brought me to your channel, but the expanse reactions are what made me subscribe. So keep on keeping on, and I certainly look forward to your future videos.
One thing I love in the Expanse is the real science - so there is a delay in sending and receiving messages, viewing things at a distance, because of the vast distances. Adds suspense in later episodes, and is a great story telling device. Even with all the tech, they still cant have instant comms unless they are in close proximity to each other
It's funny knowing the show in full and listening to lil' gal make so many incorrect assumptions because of the lack of facts the show of course provides later on, but if those facts then go over her head because of some distraction or not paying attention, not putting 2 and 2 together... oh it makes me so anxiously nervous to see if she picks up on everything and I love it...

You'll get Amos's name right soon, I'm sure. :) And your intro with how Amos would do some nasty stuff in a cool calm way, I think this episode confirms your assessment. To set your mind at ease, this is our crew's ship, until it isn't... :p Miller is a bit obsessed with finding Julie and proving he's not just washed up. So in a way, maybe love and OMG, Did you just sing All By Myself? LOL. Francis Fisher was also in the western Unforgiven and there's a nice little story with the outdoor scene. ua-cam.com/video/xH97VJy6ThA/v-deo.html Chrisjen knows where Jimmy is since she has Kenzo, the spy she got from the dude in the aquarium. Space travel is like Star Trek, in the Expanse... if you're rich. :) But the ships are still built like buildings, because thrust gravity still works the same for any ship. You're doing good, Gal!
Inspired by you and Nikki and Steven, we rewatched Season One of The Expanse...in one day. Love this show, SO much. This is a GREAT episode. So much happened. Remember the man who was talking to Avasaral (yes, you said it correctly...great job), while they were at the marina on Earth. The guy that she threatened his son, who is still in prison on not being released, until he (the ex-spy master) to let her have his spy on Tycho? Well, the guy that was found on the Rocinante...that is HIS guy. About Miller...Marie and I have been having a LOT of fun...thinking of him smelling and how he would taste, if kissed. The thought that he would stick and taste funny...is a running joke, now. Especially how this season progresses. About Amos...and the Churn. There is a novella written by James S.A.Corey (Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck) called The Churn. It is solely Amos' backstory and his life on Earth. So good. All will be revealed in future seasons. Hang on, till then. About Naomi being afraid of Amos. We think she's known about him and of him (not his background), but the type of man he is. Even Fred Johnson talked about the "type" of man he is...while they were in the tube between Tycho and the Rocinante. The action that Miller left his hat in Julie's apartment...made us happy "for you". Marie turned to me and said that Angela was going to love this scene. Then you mentioned his haircut. Yes, Marie hates his haircut, too. Oh, well...just cannot win. The Donkey Balls scene is great. Thanks for the counter at bottom of the screen...and the bell sounds at each mention of it. Great. Now...the quesiton is...what are they going to see on THAT rock? Hmmm? Wish you could watch it immediately, too. Oh, well. We only get one episode a week, anyway. Ugh. The intellectual discussion with Elise Holden and Chrysjen Avasarala was great. The idea that Holden is like Don Quiote is such a great analogy. Says SO much about his character. Also, that Avasarala lost her son to the OPA...still effects her immensely. She is and does what she does BECAUSE of what happened to her son. The pain of a parent that losing a child before their time. Ugh. Thank you so much for this reaction and review. You are really good at catching clues...that are laid out for us to pick up. Talk to you, soon.
The first episode title was Dulcinea, who is Don Quixote's ideal woman who he invented to spur on his "chivalrous" duties in her name. It sort of parallels Miller's devotion to Julie as his ideal. This episode is called Windmills- another Don Quixote reference to "tilting at windmills" which DQ thought were giants. We also literally see Wind Turbines on the Holden ranch which is the current equivalent of the windmill.
Re: Obsession. The TV show and the books have the same shape, but are subtly different. When you get to the end of the show I think I've mentioned that you should rewatch the first few episodes to see how far back they set everything up. However I'd also recommend the books. The characters are slightly different. Some are missing, some are additional. So, even when the door seems to shut on this world, just know you can visit its cousin. Not a Chet cousin either, a cousin Bruce/Jennifer.
I've watched this first season multiple times but I've only now realized that there is a filming continuity error with Miller's hair. They must have filmed a bunch with regular hair and then changed the hairstyle during filming.
I have always considered Amos someone with a unique mixture of psychological traits. Specifically some level of autism as well as a touch of psychopathy. It is super exciting and makes for some intense thought processes.
Amos is a scary guy, not because he's mentally maladjusted, but because he's learned that violence is the best way to resolve an interpersonal conflict, and that immediate and intense violence will, more often than not, best protect you from those intent on performing extreme violence upon you. If you postulate a society filled with those sorts of people, Amos is the epitome of mental and emotional health, while you and I are dead because of our inability to recognize the threat or effectively respond to it, and others laugh at the mental shortcomings and emotional limitations that resulted in our grisly demises.
Chrisjen Avasarala will do anything to win, Earth comes first. The first episode when she had that belter on the hooks showed just how far she will go. Details are everything. Anderson Dawes is a roughneck gangster, but try not to be so critical of him, and understand that Earth and Mars have had their foot on the back of the Belters necks (who are exploited humans) for sometime now. Episode 1 at the outset helped us to appreciate that this whole situation with Earth, Mars and the Belt was a powder keg ready to explode. I really like this show BUT it does mirror the political, social and some of the partiality that portrayed in our human society today.
I like the pentagram you are wearing. This show is super realistic. No artificial gravity, no force fields, no phasers, no teleporters, and no warp drive. The engines the ships use are still sci-fi, just not to the extent of warp drive or hyper space, but they can get you from Earth to Mars in weeks instead of months. That is still not possible with todays tech.
9:35 Remember that space is vast. So due to the relative slow speed of light and electromagnetic waves, direct live communication is pretty much impossible between different worlds and locations in the solar system. Even the lag time between earth and the moon is about 1.2 seconds making a live conversation very awkward. And between earth and mars lag is already on average 20 minutes, making live communication impossible. Between earth and the belt or even the Jovian system, we're talking about an hour of lag time or even more... So this is why in the expanse you'll rarely see people use direct live communication, but see them use recorded messages all the time.
I'm not sure I agree. It's just that his moral compass was forged in fires most people don't survive, and came out pointing not at "true north", but at "true pragmatism". I absolutely love the character, but for the record, I wouldn't spend 3 seconds in a room with him, if I ran into Amos in real life. He oozes "threat" from his entire being.
Fun fact: although many people may think the show was titled on the size and vastness of space, it was actually named on the size of Chrisjens wardrobe.

@@clementp.5187 i would disagree but I understand what you're saying. He's ridiculing more than taunting, similar to how...
(PossibleSpoilers, scroll at your own risk)
...he kept mispronouncing Murtrey's name. It's showing disrespect more than offering challenge.
I get what you mean with Adam Jensen... When you have a voice that specific, it's hard for people not to hear their favorite character. I played Mechwarrior 5 recently, and pretty sure he voices a secondary NPC in that... and it's weird because I keep hearing Adam, but the character doesn't fit haha !
the best sci-fi show that's ever been on TV. amos is literally the deepest character ever.
I agree that Amos' lack of personal animosity with Holden is a point of his character to ponder.
But "Ty and that Guy" does tend to contain spoilers.
@@kirkdarling4120 yes! I absolutely love Ty&ThatGuy but they do spoil future events.
Great reaction! Kudos to your editor for adding special touches to some of your off-hand comments. ;-)
Nerdy dads unite. Thanks for sticking with The Expanse, it's absolutely a show for thinking people. You've done the work of getting up the big hill, now enjoy the rest of the coaster.
I am so happy you're watching this. It keeps on being awesome and the last two seasons are very strong 😉
Remember what Dawes tells Miller, in the intro. He isn’t wrong.
nb. I thought your analysis of Amos from what we've seen so far was spot on, quite insightful.
The random shots you take at Miller always catch me off guard and make me laugh 😂
Pronouns but I'm sure you got the point
The pin up girl on the side of the ship is supposed to be like WW2 bombers, and the pin up girls those pilots would paint on them.
Got 'em! She's hooked, guys 😁
I shall neither confirm nor deny your speculations.
Kenzo is the asset Chrisjen blackmailed Davila for. That's how she knows where Holden is.
Aw man, you unknowingly foreshadowed with your comments and damn it, I can't tell you where or how (and its not where you expect) 😲
Do you remember when Avarsarela met with the gentleman at the aquarium and asked to "borrow his spy on Tycho"? Meet Kenzo.
Amos is one of my all-time favorite characters. The show is fantastic at revealing more and more layers to his character over the course of the series. Wes Chatham was fuckin born for this role.
I have been enjoying your review of the show. It is like seeing it a second time with fresh eyes.
Yep! It's nice reliving the Expanse experience with new enthusiasts.
It's about to get sooooo good!
~can't take the razorback~
Another thing about this show. No magical real time communication through the vastness of space.
Ahaha! Got hooked! 😁 The Roci is a character in the show for sure. Oh and there's a short story called The Churn - you can find it on the net. Peeing in a suit - coming up!
She doesn't want to read The Churn just yet. In fact, not until halfway through season five.
Fun fact: if anyone has played the more recent Deus Ex games, the actor that plays the spy is the voice actor for Adam Jensen
I miss those games. So want a new one!!
Great reaction. I love the expanse and I think that your reaction are extremely rich, clever, and entertaining. Brava
A great episode that showcases who some of the main characters are. Amos especially.
There is a whole book dedicated to the origin of Amos.👍👍🔥🔥😎😎
I definitely noticed at the beginning of season 2 there was some thing a little different about earth… a bit bluer than normal 🙃
I've always sort of wished that the fan base had adopted "Donkey Balls" instead of "Screaming Firehawks". 😁
One of the awesome things about Amos is he will never threaten anyone, he just honestly explains what will happen.
Ok.
I'd love to read the books, but having already seen the show i don't know if it'll be boring knowing what happens..
@@sigzil1985
Oh my god the books and audiobooks especially have so so so much more dimension than the streaming series. And there are novellas that give so much more detail to the world building of the Expanse.
I listened to quite a few Expanse audiobooks. You will not get bored, in fact you'll wonder why the writers and producers didn't include all those juicy story details in the streaming series.
If you think its an obsession now, just wait....lol :)
Did not know I needed a "No Sharks in Space" t-shirt until right now. Please make some.🤣
There ain't nobody on Ceres thats had a proper shower since episode 1. Their shower water had been delivered by the Canterbury, and it's a tad radioactive atm
I smiled when you said Miller seems like he smells like fish...
In 1999, that actor was in "Deep Blue Sea" where he is ultimately eaten by a gigantic, sentient shark! lol
Nah, man. He is the movie's final girl.
Amos is one of the most interesting and needed characters in the entire series.
I think about the finale of Book 1 (***) almost daily in my life... It is absolutely the most beautiful episode of television I have seen in my entire life. And it makes me cry every time.
Is it less? Is it more? Is it the finale of S1? Who knows!? You'll know it when you see it ;3
Fun reactions! Looking forward to all
Fun fact: The actor who plays the stowaway on the Roci also does the motion capture for the hybrid monster that we see later.
I worry about him for a while. And then… 😏
This show.. just so much yes.
The good news is, you have now gotten that outer skin off the onion, be getting to the deeper parts now.
I am new to the channel specifically because of the Expanse. You appreciate me ☺️
16:38 "...Birds in the Belt are weird...."
Blame it on the the artificial gravity. It's a close approximation to Earth's...but hardly close enough. Hence, their eerie(( one might say ghostly? )) manner of hovering and flight.
Love this show. Going to DragonCon in Atlanta next week. Amos will be there and can't wait to go to his panel to hear him discuss the show.
If you want to hear a discussion of the show watch the Ty and that Guy streaming episodes right here on youtube.
@@Awol991 I would to, but they do spoil future events!
welcome in the club
I'm happy I found your channel because you approach shows and movies very similarly to how I do. And it's funny, because deadpool was actually the video that brought me to your channel, but the expanse reactions are what made me subscribe. So keep on keeping on, and I certainly look forward to your future videos.
Great Edit! 8 Donkey Balls
Amos has a nickname in the fandom "Murder/Snuggles".
I hope the obsession drives you to watch multiple episodes a week 😈.
Trivia: the 2 saucy ladies are born on the same day
One thing I love in the Expanse is the real science - so there is a delay in sending and receiving messages, viewing things at a distance, because of the vast distances.
Regarding the Alex/Amos thing, I hope you'll enjoy this:
(from "THE EXPANSE is the Most Scientifically Accurate TV Show") (no spoilers)

The Ghostbusters hearst was actually an ambulant!
They must have filmed a bunch with regular hair and then changed the hairstyle during filming.
i think i've said it before - i love love love your pre and post thoughts on the series!
The birds on the belt are not only flying, but floating in the lower gravity.
This show is incredible, i miss it
When it comes to fighting, Amos is a skilled amateur. Bobbi is a pro.
There is a “belter version” of the song All by Myself in a future episode. ;)
-15 points to House Baird for ruining that surprise.
20 mins in...'for some reason he looks like he smells like fish'.... one of the best review comments yet.. fishy miller lol
Came here for the Expanse. Stayed because you're fucking awesome.
🥰 well thank you
9:35 Remember that space is vast.
Amos is low key lacking his own moral compass.
@@robertjames8220 Agreed, Amos' moral compass points to whatever is required in the moment. Which is quite terrifying.
