    Holden never saw Miller wearing a hat, he had left it on Ceres. Which is why Miller can't be a hallucination.

      That hat was also an important clue in Julie's vision back in 1x09.
      More clues about Miller being a non-hallucination is that he keeps saying things that we heard him say on Ceres but that Holden never could have heard.

    • @st0ox
      @st0ox Рік тому +2

      It could still be combination of an hallucination with an autosuggestion. The autosuggestion would be the part of your brain that tries to convince you not having an hallucination, because you don't remember the hat of that guy.

      Also when Holden asks Miller what's up with the hat, Miller uses his keeps the rain off my head answer. If this was a hallucination, there's no way Holden would have imagined that was Miller's standard response.

      He isn’t a hallucination because the Proto Molecule never knew Miller had the hat, Miller keeps saying he is the investigator and “They” keep killing and recreating the investigator. So….yea it’s actually him, even though it isn’t…but it is….

    I can’t really pinpoint when it happens, but Amos going from “I don’t know why I would or wouldn’t kill out, except Naomi wouldn’t like it” with Holden in 1x2 to “Do what the Cap said” in 3x8 is my favorite.
    Amos and Holden are my dark horse favorite relationship in the series full of truly elevated relationships.

    • @StarkRG
      @StarkRG Рік тому +2

      I think it was somewheret the time that Amos was beating the dude with canned chicken and Holden was holding Naomi back as she yelled at Amos to stop. I think this was also about the time that Amos had started to try making descisions on his own. While he never fully gives his coonscience control over to Holden the way he did to Naomi, he does see that Holden is always attempting to do the right thing and sees the wisdom in following his orders (of course, Holden makes some really terrible descisions, but I'm not sure Amos realizes that at this stage).

    • @joelquinn5347
      @joelquinn5347 Рік тому +8

      @@StarkRG Oh he realizes it, but Amos also knows that the world is shit. The only thing he is looking for is a person who tries to do the best - always. The one who struggles until he makes a decision. He saw Holden do selfless stuff, he saw Holden do the hard stuff (killing ship, allow a beating...) he saw Holden how he handles his own mistakes, he sees the struggle and the will to do better/ the right thing. That is all he needs, because than he he can do whatever is asked of him, because he knows someone already tried his best to point them in the right direction. Thats why he trusts Holden more than Naomi at one point, who acted selfish and without self reflection. This is his way how he just knows, that he is not on the wrong team. Just perfect for somone who can't tell what is moraly right or wrong because he lacks the emotional triggers to experience it in the moment and not just in hindsight. A functional psychopath so to say.

    • @benjaminhendrickson5435
      @benjaminhendrickson5435 Рік тому +3

      @@joelquinn5347 To be clear, I'm not disagreeing with you, but looking at it in another way, Amos might be seen as the moral center of the show. Amos's rejection of Naomi's actions is the most impactful. Amos decides that Prax shouldn't live with murder on his conscience, but also that Strickland deserves death, and takes that burden on himself. Amos judges that Holden is a good man and worthy of loyalty. It is his vote of confidence that convinces Alex to follow Holden's orders. This pattern becomes even more apparent in later seasons in a certain redemption arc (I don't want to get specific cause of spoilers). It is interesting to me that the "psychopath" who believes himself to be completely amoral so often seems to be the deciding vote on moral issues on the Roci.

    • @snorpenbass4196
      @snorpenbass4196 Рік тому +3

      I think the key to Amos is that he's learned to see himself through the eyes of others - he knows he can't make moral judgements, and has trouble with empathy, but he uses moral lodestones like Naomi or Holden to judge himself. If he sees _them_ doing something he would, and he knows they would disapprove if _he_ did it, he tells them they shouldn't. It's actually kind of amazing - he found normalcy by accepting he wasn't.

    Also, respect the show so much for not ending on the trite cliffhanger. They could have cut on Holden’s order to fly into the Ring, or on the Roci going through. But everyone knows that there’s a next episode, so that wouldn’t really be a cliffhanger, and instead they tease what’s on the other side. You’re left with much more of a wtf than “will the main cast be chunky marinara?!” because you kinda know the answer to that one. Much more interesting to ask “how aren’t they?”

It always sends chills, it's like watching a movie when the character on the screen turns and looks at you, and responds.

      The fact of the matter is, SyFy wasn't making the show, they were only distributing it. They had a deal with the independent studio that was actually making it, and the deal was just a really bad one for SyFy. I believe they were in a bidding war initially and simply overbid what they could afford and then foolishly tried to make it work but never were going to be able to. So it's hard to blame them for choosing not to renew, but it is completely their fault for signing such an unsustainable deal to begin with. They didn't opt out because of the quality of the show. It was strictly business. SyFy's costs were too high.

UNN = United Nations Navy, the military branch that runs Earth's space program. So it's correct to say that the mission to the ring is run by the UN. The Thomas Prince is a UNN vessel, but Anna and the other civilians on it are there as representatives of the UN, not the navy.

      13:15 One thing I really love about the Belter culture is their respect for free decision-making. They may express their disagreement without any restraint, but they seem to hesitate to stand in each other's way, even if they think someone else is making a mistake, as long as it's not a direct threat to everybody. It's a very respectable attitude and I think very believable as a cultural adaptation to living in such a hostile environment, forcing everybody to live in such tight quarters, constantly needing to cooperate at a high level to maintain those fragile quarters against that environment while not able to keep anybody's nose out of everybody's business, since there's just no room.

    Miller is walking a fine line. Like what he said about exceeding parameters and not remembering talking to Holden before, HE hadn't talked to Holden before another version of him had. Miller was broke down and used for parts, the Protomolecule needed an investigator so it made one from what it had... a washed up, ex cop that got stuck in it's teeth.

    It's hard to tell what she's doing in the show but in the book it says that Melba circles her tongue on the roof of her mouth to activate the rush.

    I know the novella “The Churn” digs into Amos’ backstory (I haven’t read it). My understanding of it comes from the show.
    As I understood it, back in Season 2 when Amos beat up the chicken guy and then told Prax what “bullies” like him do with people like Prax’s little girl… I took that as Amos indirectly telling Prax what *he* suffered in his childhood.
    “He’s a bully. And where I come from, bullies take desperate young girls like your daughter and force them into prostitution. And when they finally get knocked up, they peddle them to johns who get off on that. After they have the kid, they push them right back out on the streets even before they have a chance to heal. *And those kids…they use them, too.* Some people deserve to be punished.”
    As horrific as it is, all the pieces fit. It explains why he’s so broken. It explains his protectiveness towards kids, why he wanted to leave Earth. Again, I haven’t read the novella, but that was the impression I got from season 2.

There are structures within it that were once separate organisms; aboriginal, evolved, and complex. It is designed to improvise, to use what is there and then move on. Good enough is good enough, and so the artifacts are ignored or adapted. The conscious parts try to make sense of the reaching out. Try to interpret it.”

    5:00 I'm probably mistaken but my take was that the Venus protomolecule took apart the Arboghast like an exploded diagram to understand spaceships in order to complete The Work. Then the Katoa protomolecule hybrid took apart the nurse like an exploded diagram to understand how humans work and what from them would be useful for The Work (not realising that it can't put a human back together again like it could've with the Arboghast).

    Cracked egg for a head, eh? You know what I'm gonna say, so I won't say it...
    There is one episode with an end credit scene you should watch, and this is not a spoiler... the season 5 finale.
    In the book, Melba activates whatever it is she's activating by making 2 circles on the roof of her mouth with her tongue but the show needed something we could see and hear, so that's why it seems like a tooth. No breaking of teeth involved.
    Poor Holden just can't get a damn break, can he? Just last episode he was making jokes about donuts and now here he is being a shit magnet again.
    It cracks me the f up how often your theories are spot on correct and how often you predict lines people say. Not all the time but you've got a better than average percentage.

    Can add this now it's now longer a spoiler. Most of Millers lines are quotes from earlier seasons, most before Holden ever met him. It's trying things looking for a response from Holden. Holden has also never seen the hat he left it behind on Ceres back when he was a detective. That was a clue that it wasn't just a hallucination.

    RE 2:00 Because I'm a child I have to point it out, are you asking if the ring past Uranus is exit only?

  • @kirkdarling4120
    @kirkdarling4120 Рік тому

    If you go back and look at the opener that you avoided, there seems to be a small probe moving at slow speed through the ring. It appears that the ring ignored very slow objects, but came to life and blocked an extremely fast object. It seems to cooperate with ships moving in at a "Goldilocks" velocity.
    I don't think the Protomolecule operates as a matter (generally) as reactions to actions, but that it's always been doing its "Work" with very little regard to what humans are doing, except for evaluating them for their usefulness to its "Work" and preventing them from interfering with it. I think all the parts are doing the same thing as they can wherever they are, so while the motherlode was disassembling the Arbogast, Katoa was disassembling his nurse. It regards everything in its environment as a resource for its own use.
    I do think Amos had to wear pumps at some point when he was young. Those pedophiles he knows so much about.
    Martians are very, very petty. So that's why they're still nattering about the Roci. They're just very petty. They won't let go of a bone.
    For a bit of background, Melba Koh is one of a number of contracted maintenance personnel for the UN fleet who are authorized to move from ship to ship...which is handy for her. Anna noticed that Melba appeared to need to talk to someone...as a minister, that's Anna's job and much of the reason she's there.
    What we get from Miller's jabber: The Loca Griega is running an unlicensed brothel. If it were licensed, the cops would know about it. But because it's unlicensed, they have to send an investigator to check it out. The Protomolecule has built what appears to be a gate. It's been "reaching out" but nothing happens. So it's created an investigator to find out why.
    In that last scene, the missile had a purple glow on its leading end, but the Roci did not. The purple glow has a meaning.
    Your attempts to connect everything are fruitful.
