    How to install a new dishwasher correctly
    When installing a dishwasher, remember dishwasher manufacturers like Frigidaire dishwashers, GE dishwashers, Whirlpool dishwashers, Maytag, LG, Samsung etc., don’t tell you to buy a dishwasher connection kit, which has required dishwasher installation plumbing accessories.
    how to install dishwasher hose connections
    This dishwasher plumbing kit is called a Universal Dishwasher Water Connection Kit' The dishwasher kit comes with the water supply hose to connect your new dishwasher to the water shutoff valve under your kitchen sink cabinet. The dishwasher kit also includes the 90-degree hose adapter, which completes the dishwasher plumbing connection to the hose that comes with the kit. This is only the first half of the dishwasher plumbing hookup
    how to install a dishwasher and wire up dishwasher connections
    The other dishwasher kit item you need but new dishwasher manufacturers like Frigidaire dishwashers, GE dishwashers, Whirlpool, Maytag, LG, Samsung etc., don’t tell you is the power cord, with wire nuts and Romex wire connector clamp. This is the second part of the dishwasher hookup, for the power cord.
    How to hookup dishwasher hoses and dishwasher connections
    Next comes the dishwasher drain hose, which must be connected as a high loop to the garbage disposal under the kitchen cabinet. Whenever you hookup dishwasher hoses, all the plumbing and electrical connections have to be completed according to Uniform Plumbing Codes and the National Electric code. Installing dishwashers does require the proper knowledge and connecting hoses and power cords up correctly, or you really bad results can happen. You must study and learn how to install dishwasher connections properly.
    Dishwasher install tips and tricks
    When you install new dishwashers, the next task is you drill holes under the kitchen counter side wall to accommodate the hookup dishwasher plumbing connections and feed all the dishwasher hoses and the dishwasher power cord through, then push the dishwasher into place. when you install dishwasher grain hoses, make sure you form the high loop inside the cabinet, and the hose must reach all the way up to the underside of the cabinet. This is what you need to learn so you'll know how to install dishwashers correctly. We hope you enjoyed this how to install dishwasher UA-cam video.

    From protips about dishwashers, to pro tips about editing videos, just wanted to thank you for yhese videos, but just wanted to give you a tip, on the editing software you want to lower the volume of the background music to a point that you can barely hear it while you're talking, and gradually raise the volume when you're not, and gradually reduce it before you start talking again, of if you dont have too much time to edit, or your editor doesnt allow you to do that, just lower the music enough to barely hear it through the whole video, I hope these tips help you on future videos, and again, thanks for sharing these very helpful videos!

    Know nothing about proper installs, so cannot critique technique. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic instructional video. I think this is one of the best tutorials I’ve ever seen on youtube, and I’ve watched dozens (if not a hundred). I was only interested in changing the high loop hose on my dishwasher and was so intrigued that I watched this whole video. The music volume gets slightly competitive with the spoken word. Great production overall. Thanks.

    I looked up this video to see if I was correct when I saw the drain hose on my mom’s dishwasher being hooked up to the garbage disposal was wrong, and sure enough, you confirmed my suspicions. I was more concerned with the verticality and how that wouldn’t seem like it would drain, but you gave another reason. Thank you!

    Just had the big box store install the dishwasher...what a mess...I will attach the host up high as is in your video...my dishwasher was not put all the way back into the cabinet...telling me that my new dishwasher is larger than my old one...I checked the dimensions and they're the same!!! What a lot of BS.. The dimension are pretty universal.....the supervisor of the installation company is supposed to come to inspect it...boy do I have a lot to tell him about how to install a dishwasher after watching your video... Their installers need to go to a class to learn how to install a dishwasher...I seriously think I could have done it myself.! OMG...This was my third attempt to get a dishwasher...first one it wasn't on the truck...the driver told the boss he left it in my garage??? and that the plumbing was not good enough to work with. (they never looked under my sind)..it'a all new plumbing. It was never on the truck!! (maybe it fell off the truck "somewhere"!! Second one came and the machine was damaged, So now the third one came today...what a mess. I think that they never were careful about the hose and the wired when they shoved it back in the opening and so it isn't in far enough... same deal with my stove that they installed...said that it couldn't be pushed back due to the gas line. (also smelled gas a little) ...my son-in-law came and fixed it..he's a Fire Chief so I know now that the stove is installed correctly....what a headache...never again!! Thanks for the video!!

    I Have an issue with the drain line. The installer for my dishwasher wouldnt install because the drain hose is between cabinets and doesnt have some sort of special extension from the disposal to the included drain hose from the dishwasher. Is there a special extension for this? They want me to hire a plumber to come in and install this. Seems like something easy if I know what parts I need to do this.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 роки тому

      Not sure what special extension they are talking about. Maybe the hose from the dishwasher to the disposal does not just plug onto the disposal so it needs an adapter, not sure what he's saying. Look at this part from Home depot, this could be what he is saying you need.

    I do not have a garbage disposal, connecting the drain to the drain pipe from the sink is OK as long as I provide the wye fitting and proper vertical loop?
    Also, after purchasing the dishwasher I called the appliance store to ask if it needs to be hard-wired or plug-in. They told me hard wired, so I ran a new wire and did not provide a receptacle. I assume this is OK and not a violation of any code? I don't need to cut back into the drywall just to add a receptacle?
    Great video! But agreed with most other comments, music a bit loud at times

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 роки тому

      Hardwired or receptacle is fine either way, both are allowed by code. I prefer a receptacle, but it must be it's own 20 amp circuit you may have to run a new circuit from the electrical panel. Often times, they run the garbage disposal and the dishwasher to the same duplex receptacle, then snip the tab to make each of the 2 plugs on the receptacle independent, with their own 20 amp circuit. Then in the electrical panel, you put them side by side with a pin connecting them as a double throw switch, so when you turn one on, or off, the other goes on or off. This protects you form working on the outlet and having one of the 2 circuits still on. As for the dishwasher hose, yes you can connect it to a Plastic Dishwasher Branch Tailpiece from Home Depot, here is the link: www.homedepot.com/p/1-1-2-in-x-8-in-Plastic-Dishwasher-Branch-Tailpiece-PP931-8PVC/304826866?MERCH=REC-_-searchViewed-_-NA-_-304826866-_-N

    Thanks for the video, especially the code requirement on the exhaust water pipe connection into the disposal. Super helpful. I have 2 questions. 1) I notice that your replacement unit have a plug that plug into a receptacle, no doubt being protected by GFCI circuit. My replacement unit however would be a hardwire unit. There is a discussion on the web if a GFCI branch breaker is required for hardwire unit. The latest NEC seems that it is required. What's your thought on this? 2) I notice that you connect the supply waterline to the hot water side. Is this a requirement or can it be connected to a cold water line? Many thanks in advance for your reply.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  3 роки тому

      Yes the national electric code requires those circuits to now be GFC I protected and the best way to do that really is with the GFCI Breakers in the electrical panel. you never want to connect up your dishwasher to the cold water you always want to connect it to the hot water because you need hot water to make that water hot inside there so when you use a hot water cycle it won't have to sit there and heat up the water forever before it starts , and if you give it cold water who knows whether it will even be able to heat it up to where it needs to be.

      Yes and no! Yes that would be the correct height to bring in the hose from up high. If you try to pass hoses up high behind the dishwasher, they will get pinched between the dishwasher and the wall.

    I have 2 things with existing dishwasher. At home I realized after years installed by HD, the hose hole and the hose are very high, a bit higher than garbage disposal. There is no high loop in this case.
    On my kid's condo, they just left an air gab dangling under kitchen cabinet sink - connecting to the garbage disposal. Granite counter did not have an air gab hole drilled and we are not getting one. I am thinking just to cap off the air gab somehow so the whole thing become on continuous hose from DW to disposal with high loop to be applied. Or I can simply remote the air gab and rubber draining hose, and just use DW hose connects directly to the disposal.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  2 роки тому +1

      If you are not in WI, you don't need an air gap, most states do not require one they are ugly. I usually get my high loop one of 2 ways. 1) run discharge hose through bottom of cabinet, then up the wall of the cabinet, to the bottom of the counter, than curve back down to the garbage disposal. 2) Like the HD guys did, you make the hole at the top of the inside of the cabinet between the sink and dishwasher, so running the hose up to that hole, it arrive sin the cabinet just below counter level, then you curve it back down to garbage disposal. As long as you are above the garbage disposal you're OK. I don't like their method so much because most dishwasher makers have explicit instructions to follow where you can and cannot runt he hoses to get them into the cabinet.

    Hi Jeff love your video and how you take your time to explain every step in installing a dishwasher. When drilling the hole for the dishwasher drain why not drill at the top of the cabinet? This would insure the dishwasher drain is higher than the connection to the plumbing or disposal preventing backup. The same principal also applies when installing a garbage disposal. Also it is important to note the electrical outlet under the sink must be GFCI or chain linked from another GFCI.

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  4 роки тому

      Ernest the instructions on almost all dishwashers don't want you to run the hose up high inside the cavity of the dishwasher because it could interfere or pinch would the edge of the dishwasher. So they want you to run it through where their space down below like I did and you can see I run the hose up the wall inside the kitchen sink cabinet bringing it up to the counter top. Also with electrical outlets when you have a dishwasher and the garbage disposal on the same outlet as a dual use, there really is no way to make that a GFCI.

    • @ernestleo6284

      @@jeffostroff Thank you for your detailed answer I installed my dishwasher drain hose as you instructed. The drain is 32 inches high 10 inches higher than the connection to the garbage disposal providing a really good pitch. Installed a new Frigidaire dishwasher today; however, the water is not entering the unit. It's not my first installation and I did go completely by the book. I used the same cabinet space that held the old dishwasher. Why would the water inlet valve not accept water from the supply line, other than perhaps it's defective from the manufacturer?

    • @jeffostroff
      @jeffostroff  2 роки тому

      Good question. Test the water supply line first by seeing if it shoots out water,. Once connected back up, be sure to turn the water supply back on. IF you get that hose to shoot water, then the dishwasher has a hard time opening the water inlet valve. So the problem is either the water supply or the water inlet

      I have always wondered that myself. I guess because it is pumped out by the dishwasher it does move with some force. Dual traps keeps the water separate until it's in the vent. For this sink I did not want to do a horizontal arm from the garbage disposal to meet up with a T-connection below the sink, which would result in only one trap. On the next one, we'll probably revert back to the standard one trap model. this was just one of many ways to do the plumbing. If you look at most modern kitchens with 2 sinks that were designed for 2 sinks, they each have their own trap into the wall, where they lead into the vent.
