I'm a huge Blu-ray collector collector with a pretty amazing collection from labels like 88 Films, Arrow Video, Eureka, Indicator, and Network on Air however my only sadiest disappoint is not being able to own The Sweeney complete series on Blu-ray I only hope that in the future it will get released things have changed since it was released on Blu-ray back in 2012 there's more community on Blu-ray forums now more people are buying multi region Blu-ray players so region B releases can be played in other countries. Yeah, such a shame really they did an amazing job with the feature films Sweeney! & Sweeney 2 so thanks to all these involved in making that happen. If ever Network ever decide to release The complete Sweeney series on Blu-ray I said it before I'll be more then happy to pay £150 and also the complete Minder series again restored on Blu-ray I would pay the same £150 or even more! As I know Minder had more episodes. The day this should ever happen wow, or the day I hear any news I'll buy a bottle of champagne and pop the bottle just to celebrate come on Network you have the rights to the series do it justice they will sell trust me!
It’s the 21st century mate. It’s about time they were available digitally. Even this 57 year old won’t be buying a dvd. Like releasing something on a wax tube to play on a phonograph.
I got my BR player from Asda for about £40 I think. Connect it to your TV with a gold-plated HDMI lead and the picture clarity is crystal clear. It makes the picture so life-like. I know what you mean, mate, but some of my Network DVDs have a few problems regarding pixellations which I hope these BR discs will rectify. Series 1 will also come with a booklet by Andrew Pixley, TV historian so I hope he'll also include production dates/info for the first series of The Sweeney.
Imagine in the 21st century still selling this stuff on dvd. Instead of making it available digitally. Like selling phonographs in 1960 and expecting to make money.
As you probably know Network and Fremantle were unable to locate the negative for 'Ringer' and were forced to use an existing print which is why the quality on the DVD is noticeably grainier than the rest of the episodes. If they had located the negative for the BR I feel sure they would be mentioning this in the publicity material but, alas, nothing.
I think your TV has to be able to play 1080pi, that kind of stuff. But if you ever do get a BR player, try and connect it with your Sony Vega TV set and chances are it will work. I'll ask my brother in law about this as he is something of a technology expert. I'll mention your Sony Vega 32in widescreen TV to him and see what he says about it allowing bluray discs to work. He has a PlayStation which also allows blu ray discs to be put into it.
For a 1974 tv show shot on 16mm this looks VERY nice and I must concede that at 1080p it looks better overall than the DVD editions. I wasn't planning on buying the series again figuring the upgrade wouldn't be worth the cash but after seeing this I've just changed my mind. Roll on Sept 10th!
I, too, would like to see the first series of The Professionals digitally restored and remastered, because that was when IMO it was at its grittiest with Bodie, Doyle and Cowley breaking all the rules and cutting corners to deal with criminals like gangsters, corrupt authority figures, hitmen and terrorists. I have heard that the original auditions and screen tests for the Pros exist somewhere in Brian Clemens' own vault. So one day, we might get those as well, hopefully, if he can dig them out
You can't have everything in this world.This reminds me of the scenario involving The Professionals.Brian Clemens its creator said that only the negatives for series 1 existed but there were none found of series2-5,but I don't mind as I have every single episode anyway and they are remastered if not to the standard of The Sweeney.I wouldn't mind seeing the first three series of Minder digitally restored and remastered either.They were good and had quite a bit of Sweeney feel in a few eps.
Yeah or it could easily be released by Arrow Films who remastered Who Dares Wins and brought it out on blu-ray, too. Maybe Brian Clemens should assemble his own team of researchers to find out where the negatives, abandoned screen tests and other Pros related material are. I'm sure they'd come up with many goodies. That is right, the series 1 blu ray came out in time for the Sweeney movie so a Pros movie will do the same. Tom Hardy could likely play Bodie. Maybe a UK TV star for Doyle.
It is now close to five years since series one was released on Blu-Ray and there is still no sign of series two, let alone three and four. I am deeply unimpressed by Network these days, they seem to have given up on releasing boxed sets and are making people buy individual series, with no guarantee when or even if they will be released.

Networkonair have the whole series remastered but are not producing any more Blu-ray releases, Networkonair have no idea on marketing.
