Japan isn't that much "Falling out with the west". It's the "US" that is falling out with everyone else. 4:40 Wow, that's how American talk about such a staunch ally? If that's a friend, I'd cut tie with them right away.
EU and Japan are not allies. They are neo-colonies. USA always made unfair deals and exploited everyone. They can keep printing money, because as reserve currency, the rest of the world has to pay the value destruction of the printing.

Frankly they're acting more and more like China - as bullies. They need to humble down a bit, especially considering their nation is on life support solely due to them wanting to have a big stick.
And what have our "allies" ever done for us? Scores of Americans are buried across Europe and Asia. It is everyone else who must stop antagonizing the U.S.
True to that, but its not inly that but it is made worse by psyops and misdirecting people from message kf the words, example is Greenland psyop'd because they thoight greenland was in favour but weren't
For viewers unfamiliar with Ishiba, he’s been advocating military self reliance for ever 2 decades, and he now demands Japanese military to be stationed in the United States to resemble an equal alliance
That's BS. Japan's military is focused on their East Asia location. Japanese military personnel do come to the USA for training/joint training with USA military, but not to establish bases. I could see base sharing on Guam, the new facilities on Battan (with Philippines approval) or other Pacific Islands, but not on 'mainland' USA soil.
One of the potential fallout you haven’t mentioned is reducing US Marine Corps presence in Okinawa, which has always been a flash point between the local residents, Tokyo, and US.
@@LudwigVanBeethoven17 Japan has, within the last 100 years, conquered Russian, Chinese and Korean territory. "Saved their asses" is a stretch. Japan's not allowed to have a real military after WWII, but if they did have one everyone in the vicinity would fear them.
In comparison to the US, cooperation between Germany and Japan has probably never been higher, with the start of joined cabinet meatings under Scholz and Kishida.
I am Japanese, but I can understand why Americans do not like the acquisition of US Steel by Nippon Steel. When I heard that Nissan was about to be acquired by a Taiwanese company, I honestly did not like it, even though Taiwan is an important friend of ours. I guess their feeling is similar to that. However, as a local, I can say unequivocally that Japan has no intention of posing a threat to the U.S. through this acquisition and that Japan would never join the Chinese or Russian groups. (Japan's airspace and territorial waters are frequently violated by China and Russia, and each time Japan scrambles its fighter jets or sends out coastguard ships to drive them away, so the impression the Japanese have of the two countries is terrible.) As for Gaza, it is difficult to support Israel unconditionally because both sides have done terrible things. I think that in Western countries, if you criticize Jewish behavior, you are considered a racist in terms of political correctness, so you can't condemn Israel in the slightest. However, please do not consider Japan an enemy of the West just because it does not support Israel's current actions. I believe that Japan is making a fair judgment without any guilt because, unlike the West, Japan has not persecuted Jews in the past. Postscript. It is interesting to read many of the replies that give me an idea of how Americans think. Most Japanese, including myself, are not directly disadvantaged whether US Steel is bought by Nippon Steel or by the “American" man (from Brazil). However, the Japanese people seem to be saddened by this incident, as if Japan itself has been rejected by the U.S. It may have become an emotional issue. Nevertheless, many Japanese are buying U.S. stocks, so it is to the benefit of Japanese as well as Americans that the U.S. is not exposed to security threats. May the U.S. remain the strongest nation and economy for decades to come!
No foreign nation will ever be allowed to buy US Steel. Simply not going to happen. This is not a matter of dislike of Japanese people, but of caring about American national security. I OWN US Steel stocks, I would have made money with the purchase, but was one of many who demanded it not happen. It's not just about money, all sensible people can understand this.
As an American, there is no stress between us and Japan. I mean there is the obvious rhetoric by Trump. But its Trump. Our commitment to Japan seems steadfast. Europe is just cranky and wants to start trouble. it happened the last time the US didnt want to solve all of their problems too. This video is just clear bias. Most Americans view Japan as one of our closest, if not our closest ally. We dont want Nippon to buy a US company. But thats not out of any disrespect for Japan. Its out of pure national security.
@@Knight_Kin America's screwed if its national security truly is reliant on a firm that is barely hanging on in the top 5 of US steel producers, especially compared to companies a mere fraction of its age.

well, one thing to remember for the Japanese is, they are subjects of US, not the other way around. Japan would eventually kneel and bow to us as it usually does (remember what happened to your bubble economy in the 80s once you almost started to surpass us). The way I see it, its the americans that are doing decisions and actions that could undermine or even potentially sour the relationship between Japan and the US, but also for other countries too.
As a Japanese citizen, I want Japan to move away from USA policy now that the trump administration is taking over. Japan does not need the USA as much as people think.
Japan should have already moved away from US policy… The first move being kicking a foreign government (from halfway across the world mind you) military out of your Country

@UeharaKeitaro上原恵太郎 Nah, your reflecting your personal opinion for all of Japan. Is Trump popular, no, but the geopolitical situation Japan finds itself means the alliance with the US makes sense right now.
If Cliffs wanted US Steel why didn’t they just buy it earlier? It was on the market for a while and it’s financial woes apparent for a while. The disgusting truth is that they wanted it for the bare minimum and they’re likely to gut it
If we’re gonna be honest any business in the world would do that . If your a business you are going to try to spend the least amount of money not to mention it’s in the billions .
I think the video overstates the tension between Japan and the US. Yes, there are moments where Japan's stance diverges from the US, like in the Gaza conflict or the steel feud, but these differences don’t necessarily signal a falling out. Japan's more cautious approach on some issues, like Gaza, can be seen as part of its own diplomatic priorities and history, not necessarily a deep disagreement with the US. Additionally, the speculation that Trump's return would automatically make things "worse" for Japan seems a bit one-sided. While Trump’s past approach to trade and military issues caused some strain, it's unclear if his return would lead to a major shift in the relationship. The US-Japan alliance is complex, with a lot of cooperation still happening, especially on security and trade. It feels like the video is focusing more on the conflict than the broader, ongoing partnership between the two countries. Just my two cents - there’s more nuance to this relationship than it might seem!
As Japanese, I feel this channel explains more than Japanese media, haha Anyway, I don’t understand why that CEO said Japan didn’t learn anything from 1945. Just do like france instead and go for strategic autonomy policy. Japan learned the wrong lesson from ww2. The real lesson is to build nukes since the only way to secure peace is through MAD(mutally assured destruction). The reason why the soviets and americans did not go to war was because of their nuclear arsenal. France got the best millitary policy. Do not rely upon people that might put a knife in your back. Trump is doing that to their European allies and I am certain he will do the same to his Pacific allies aswell. America is not the same nation it ones was. France building their own nukes without help, with American and British complains was the right move. Now we do not need to care weather or not america is going to protect us unlike the rest of the EU. Still the idiots will not listen and follow our path since their stupidity will lead them towards occupation by Russia. We either adapt or get destroyed. Potential clickbaiting aside, the japanese are very much in the right for asking for more clarity out of their single biggest partner and ally; like hello?? What national security concerns???
Pretty obvious…? Japans homeland is far closer to North Korea and China, with a rapidly aging population. No one can be certain what Japan will look like in 10-20 years but we know for certain that they will be the first nation to be under serious restraint due to their demographic issues. So much so, it could be a likely outcome that they will do whatever it takes to avoid war with an encroaching China to the point they may cut off the U.S. out of fear.

How are they moving towards “independence”? They are already an independent nation, if your thinking that they should move out of the US sphere of influence then let’s just say China will have an easy time making quick work of you. TLDR made a minor linguistic oversight in their title. The Brits mean something less severe when they refer to a falling out than other audiences perceive. I remember when Abe was assassinated, I was working for a Japanese couple in a very left leaning city. So many customers coming in offered condolences to my bosses and talked about how awful the incident was. I thought it was interesting as most of these people probably would not say the same about Trump if he was assassinated. Yet the closest US politician you can liken Abe to was Trump.
All heads-of-state have security details, and in Trumps case he was a former USA President and the Republican candidate so he had a security squad with him. Abe was not the PM when he got assassinated, I thought he had also given up his seat in the Japanese parliament and was just doing promotional work for his political party at that time.
The current Japanese government is actually pro China. last week a delegation of 14 ruling party members met up with the Chinese CPC. It hasn't happened in almost a decade. At the same time, we kicked out 10 thousand US troops out of Japan, making Taiwan worried. But we don't care about Taiwan anymore. Taiwan is so g4y now, too Western.
I'm impressed how successfully the US is torpedoing all its alliances after building them up for so long. It's insane how powerful and useful having a globe spaning alliance of countries can be, and the US just decided Nah I don't need it.
Because we literally don't lol. Why do you think this whole alliance was built up? It was to fight the soviets so the US literally bribe the entire world with access to the global ocean creating global trade and in return if we ever fight the soviet everyone had to stand on our side. The soviets are gone, Russia prove itself to be a non factor to US. So my question is why the hell are we still protecting the global ocean and trade for everyone else while they act like ungrateful pricks? Trust me if US was really torpedoing all its alliance they would all be burning right now lol. (not literally but financially)
No such thing. More like "Nah, I'm not bribing people to be my friends anymore." Alliances really aren't that great a thing when A. They carry a negative cost and B. You no longer care to be World Police and C. Nukes keep the Great Power Peace.
We have seen in Ukraine how vulnerable they were when depending mainly on weapons from other countries. This is why they are now increasingly making more of their own. Considering this, I can understand why the US wants to keep manufacturing their own steel. If they were at war, they would need their own supplies in such an important industry. Supply lines could easily be targeted if they import steel. I do not believe it is due to a problem with the relationship between the US and Japan. It's just good strategic thinking. 🇦🇺

It's not exactly "falling out", it is like Japan weaning off dependency on the US, due to necessity, since the US can't fight wars for Japan (US is stretched thin), and Japan needs to gear up to fight for itself including changing its constitution that the WW2 era US basically wrote to contain Japanese military power.

USA saw Asia as new frontier for business , Asia is infinite market for American dreamers . But in reality, Asia is “Graveyards of empires from beginning of history “. As a Japanese, I’m great thankful to USA , they took our role as “counter part to continental powers“ After WW2,USA fought Russia,Korea, Vietnam, Iraq,Afghanistan, Arab and China. It’s completely overwhelming from my view. Too bad to say that Americans are clearly no more as powerful as 80s. US GDP is growing strong and tech companies are thriving. But same time, death rate of infant and pregnant is getting worse. Life expectancy is shortening. Death by alcohol and drug is clear indicator of social sickness. Even though, USA will definitely win war against China over Taiwan. But who knows the result and price?
Nah… Japan and US, on key interest we are in lockstep. US leadership however putting far too much emphasis on US business interests. Japan working closely with Taiwan and more local friendly countries is also in US long term interests. Such behavior is not unfriendly. Japan and Taiwan are not US Territories for purpose of economic exploitation. Even if American leadership would like them to be, it is more important they foster economic and security ties with each other as soon as possible.
Hamas has the eradication of Israel in its written constitution. Israel has no such genocidal intent written into its constitution. I think you have been suckered by Iranian propaganda.
I'm sick of Islamist sympathizers. And Japan hardly has anything to do with this. Comes more out of a desire to not want to offend anybody than Japan caring about Islam. Israel is also the common "gacha" against the West so some groups inside of Japan take advantage of that. Japanese can hardly stomach Christianity. I'd like to see how they'd react to Islam. Idiots.

(Japan's airspace and territorial waters are frequently violated by China and Russia, and each time Japan scrambles its fighter jets or sends out coastguard ships to drive them away, so the impression the Japanese have of the two countries is terrible.)
As for Gaza, it is difficult to support Israel unconditionally because both sides have done terrible things.

Imagine the fallout with USA will urge Japan to amend with China and switch to their team…..
China hates japan, doing that would be insanely difficult.

Every US ally right now thinking "with friends like these, who needs enemies"
I'm impressed how successfully the US is torpedoing all its alliances after building them up for so long. It's insane how powerful and useful having a globe spaning alliance of countries can be, and the US just decided Nah I don't need it.
Me when I make things up
Because we literally don't lol.
France and Germany did not see eye to eye with the USA during the 2nd gulf war. Look how that turned out
Germany got off easy. France got eternally humiliated by American propaganda about surrendering in WW2.

@@Knight_Kin Just watch! As tensions with Japan, Greenland, Canada, Mexico, Panama, EU etc.. take hold, watch the populations of those countries and others that are watching how former “friends and allies” are being treated, turn away from the US “values and mutual agreements” that are shown to be valueless or even a liability. Why would they renew base leases? Why would they support US-led initiatives? Why would they follow the US lead and not work with nations that don’t share “American values” when they realize they no longer share American values? The USA is acting like a playground bully and in the end, they all end up friendless, bitter and lonely.

The biggest concern is both alliances (South Korea and Japan) have too much have Opportunists in all Media sections(Politics, Society, Culture), and the United States always allowed them. Their professors taught anti-Americanism in domestic universities and sent their childrens to Study abroad in the US ridiculously. If Trumps start to banish Asian students, they will blame him. Why is it that Japan has been in a recession since the 90s? It must have to do with American debt being distributed amongst it's allies.

So Japan has a moral compass and the Americans don’t. Go Japan 🎉
Mmm "moral" compas
Moral compass? From the Japanese? Hahaha 😂 Japan only exists because the US has an actual moral compass. If any of the other countries had defeated the Japanese in WW2 they wouldn't exist today. All you countries with thousands of years of history and uptight attitudes would have wiped the Japanese people to nothing and absorbed their land. I won't take a lesson in morals from someone that isn't American. You all are just angry and absolutely jealous that a country with barely 300 years of existence is the only super power on earth. Morals what a joke. Every country on earth has a nasty bloody handprint on history! Acting like you're innocent. You disgust ME.
are u a bot? or did u not watch the video?
"Yes, you must allow the foreign steel conglomerate to buy your strategic domestic assets or else you lack moral compass". Phew lad, that's some Cope right there.
Uhhhhhhhh
It's not exactly "falling out", it is like Japan weaning off dependency on the US, due to necessity, since the US can't fight wars for Japan (US is stretched thin), and Japan needs to gear up to fight for itself including changing its constitution that the WW2 era US basically wrote to contain Japanese military power.
With a population in decline they won't ever be a military power ever again. Most likely by design
Since they already have recovered from WW2 losses and sucked enough from the US taxpayers now they are turning their back on their saviours and bearing their teeth at them, I wonder how ungrateful one must be to showcase such behaviour.

Pearl Harbor, Unit 731, Cherry Blossoms at Night...
@@MiguelDLewis The second comment referencing Pearl Harbor, Unit 731, and Cherry Blossoms at Night is highlighting some of Japan's most infamous actions during World War II. Here's what they refer to:
Pearl Harbor (1941)
On December 7, 1941, Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, leading to the United States' entry into World War II.
The attack resulted in the deaths of over 2,400 Americans and the destruction of numerous ships and aircraft.
Unit 731 (Biological Warfare and Human Experimentation)
Unit 731 was a covert Japanese military unit that conducted horrifying biological and chemical warfare experiments on human subjects, primarily Chinese civilians and prisoners of war, during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II.
Victims were subjected to:
Vivisection (surgery without anesthesia)
Frostbite experiments
Germ warfare tests involving diseases like plague, cholera, and anthrax
Tens of thousands of people were killed as a result of these experiments.
Cherry Blossoms at Night (Kamikaze and Biological Attack Plans)
Cherry Blossoms at Night was a Japanese plan to use biological warfare against the U.S. during WWII.
The plan involved using balloons and kamikaze submarines to spread plague-infected fleas over civilian populations, similar to Unit 731 tactics.
The attack was never executed but illustrates Japan's extreme wartime strategies.
@@MiguelDLewis Other Atrocities Committed by Imperial Japan in WWII:
The Nanjing Massacre (1937): Mass killings and sexual violence where approximately 200,000-300,000 Chinese civilians were slaughtered during the occupation of Nanjing.
Comfort Women: Thousands of women from occupied territories (Korea, China, Philippines, etc.) were forced into sexual slavery for the Japanese military.
Bataan Death March (1942): American and Filipino POWs were forced on a brutal march, resulting in thousands of deaths due to starvation, abuse, and execution.
Forced Labor and Mass Killings: Civilians and POWs across Asia were subjected to forced labor and brutal mistreatment, resulting in widespread deaths.

I say this as a Jewish American who has been to Japan and plans to move someday… nobody needs to like a country whose soldiers occupy their land and assault their children, whose civilians treat their country and its culture like a playground, and whose leaders skip important respectful visits because Israel wasn’t invited.
I think the events in Okinawa are direct evidence that American troops no longer benefit the Japanese and that the JSDF needs to stand on its own two feet militarily. And I am _not_ saying to remove Article 9 or allow Japan to develop nuclear weapons by any means (dear lord) nor do I want to give Japanese nationalists any chance to take power (because we all know how that turned out last time) but it has felt like Japan has been a dog on a leash since the end of the war in a way Germany and Italy haven't and this has been rather undeserved. Japan - not the US or CCP or UN but Japan itself - has kept its military ambitions in check and has proven they are now a peaceable people. They have opportunities to get into international conflict yet they refuse. And yet only time the Japanese were afforded any sense of autonomy was in the 70s-90s when its economy almost overtook the US’s and even then I doubt the US was ever going to let that happen.
The fourth biggest economy needs to be allowed to defend itself by itself. End of discussion.

I'm sick of Islamist sympathizers. And Japan hardly has anything to do with this. Comes more out of a desire to not want to offend anybody than Japan caring about Islam.
