I was watching how you were teaching how to play Horse with no name. So I was playing it when my wife came into my room, she said now that is the song Horse with no name. Thanks for the strumming technique that you taught me!!! What a treasure for me. 80 and my first song, just half to learn how to sing and play.
Im 61, been poking around you tube videos for quite some time. The way you explain things is just amazing. Some people are born teachers. You are one of those people. Thank you
thank you for yourtube song videos. your lessons are not just copies of others videos but adds your ideas and ways to improve, Your edition of wild horses is an example of what i mean. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos.
Yes! I have watched many videos on this song and so far this is the BEST. I will watch it again and again and hopefully I will "nail" this strum eventually.
What a top quality tutorial! You've nailed it with the basics, and then all the little details to get it sounding so good. Thank you for touching on small details like explaining the shuffle rhythm, drones, adding percussion, emphasis on certain beats, etc. You give such an excellent balance of technical knowledge, and straight-forward how to play it. Thank you, Sir! Lessons like yours are absolutely magic. Helping us to turn a flat, 2-chord song into something that sounds great. You rock. (Literally!) Much appreciated.
I have been struggling with strumming for a few months now but you are really the best teacher and know how to explain everything and repeat it often enough. Thank You!
Thanks a lot. This was one of my favourite songs when I was a little younger. Now with your kind support, the time comes back using my own hands. Great.
This guy is awesome. I am a beginner. He gives so much nuance in a simple song that I never knew existed. Makes me want to practice this song for hours.
Dave! Thank you so much. I have been struggling to learn to play for almost a year, with no success. I was ready to call it quits, then I stumbled on to you. I am finally enjoying the time spent.
Great tutorial. A few years ago when learning this song, I saw a subtly different chord structure for the chorus. 1st chord - Middle finger on 2nd fret of 5th string, ring finger on 2nd fret of 1st string. 2nd chord - Middle finger on 2nd fret of 3rd string, and ring finger on 2nd fret of 2nd string. It varies the sound a bit from the verse progression. You are a fine teacher. Thank you.
You are correct on the chorus chords. It bothers me that so many videos like this don’t teach the chorus chords. They’re just as easy to play as the verse chords-every chord is played within the fret 2 box. It is NOT a two chord song, and the year was 1972.
Thank you! I’ve been working on this song / strumming, and when trying to sing the chorus it just didn’t sound right to continue with the same two chords as all videos seem to do. This is what I needed.
Thanks for the wonderful playing this song. You are a wonderful and very talented man. You are a great musician and thicher. Can you please play other songs of jhonny cash. Like future up on the road? I am sure you will be able to play this. Thank once again for your time.
Excellent tutorial. Very well put togther. I love all the little tips and tricks from simple to advanced. It's amazing how the fine details can make it sound very basic to professional.
As a teacher myself I teach this one usually on the very 1st lesson to give the beginner confidence, that they can play a song right ouuta the box. So far it works great!!
I'm not sure why strumming up and down looks so easy but I make it so difficult 😁😁 But of course I can't walk and chew gum at the same time . Thankfully This video helped TONS ! I'll keep practicing for awhile , Thanks so much for sharing !
Lmao. I always wonder how they keep the same chord with up and down strumming but get 15 different sounds and 20 rhythms. When I try and recreate it I sound like a monster truck fucking a cat in heat. Finally have 1 song down and its 3 power chords and I still can't play it like it sounds lmao. This has been the hardest but most rewarding thing I've ever done and I spent 4 years in the army infantry.
Natalye ! Hey, Natalye! I've finally found someone who has the same problem as myself! The only difference is that I've been playing for 3 years!! It's really difficult to try and explain to someone what's actually happening but I have to say that watching Dave's tutorials has actually helped me and I think my strumming has improved over the past couple of days.
The year was 1972 and it’s a four chord song, not two. The chorus uses two equally easy to play but different chords, both of which are played within the fret 2 box. Scroll down to Michael Strickland’s comment and he tells how the chorus chords are played.
There are two more cords to this song . The chorus has two other cords . It will sound funny if You do not learn it right. There are cord extensions for this song and sound awesome. Trust Me I have played this tune for 50 years .

Glad I'm not alone, who woulda thought something that looks so simple could be so damn hard (strumming & changing chords simultaneously)!
@@vlogress11c81 wow, thanks for keeping it real! Tricky stuff
yeah
Good video, I’m a super new player. Would be great if you added the D U strumming to the video, and on which of these are you connecting.
Top tutorial pal. You deserve more subscribers 👍
This song is deceiving 2 fairly simple chords but its all about the technique and timing that makes a world of difference. Thank you

very very good.
Nice job Dave!! What kind of guitar you are using? It's beautiful. Thanks a lot.
nice job thanks!
👌
I have always loved this song, so thank you for the lesson. Are you playing a cedar top guitar in this video?
That's a Larrivee OM, spruce top, rosewood back & sides.
Super
Are upstrokes on the beat right before a chord change played "open" helping you get to the next chord?
They can be, especially if the upstroke is only brushing the treble strings.

Do you do private on line lessons?

What is your guitar?
1111
This video could have been about 30 minutes shorter
Way too fast dude…you went from a simple E to a open end a minor hanging major up strum blah blah blah
