Watching a wee bit late! Pont du Gard is an amazing archaeological site. The bushland is known as la garrigue or maquis. Watching you walk in that heat and I’m thinking yer a wee bit mental 😂 Everywhere warns no strenuous or prolonged outside activity in these temps in France, i just sit in the comfort of my wee house when it hits those temps. Hope you had a great walk.
Oh my that was tense viewing! It’s the first one of yours I’ve watched after the challenge with Steve Marsh (that’s how I found you!) I’ve been there twice, once was 30 years ago and then about 5 years ago, both times were super hot and I moaned like hell just walking from the car park to the aqueduct 😂
That was like a Hitchcock movie. I was expecting you to collapse at any moment and then get Med-evac out of there. Be careful out there. We need you to keep making videos. Don’t take such risks! I would have given up miles back!
Whew. That one was a tough one to watch. That heat!! We've had a hot summer here (Ontario, Canada) but on days like you experienced when it's humid and in the 40 level, we are not hiking about. Thank you, as always, for taking us along on your journey. This series has been terrific. We had no idea about the ancient history of that area of France. Take it easy...you deserve it.
We live in Portugal where the temperatures are about the same, We don't leave the house between 12.00 and 18.00 let alone go hiking. You must be very fit, very brave or very mad. But the results are worth it for an unfit, timorous but sane person like myself :>)
Scott - you have amazing stamina doing all that walking in such heat. I would be worried about getting lost in the remoteness. Thanks very much for bringing us along, though please take care in future.
I love doing walks through foreign countryside, but from past experience, anything over 25 degrees is pushing the boundaries of what I’m capable of. I near came a cropper in Portugal walking between towns, about 16km walk through countryside with just about enough water in 30+ heat, absolutely nothing but countryside the whole distance, absolutely stunning walk, plan was to walk there, get some lunch, and walk back, I got there and got an Uber back, I defo enjoyed throwing myself in the pool when I got back.
Nice video. When I was there in 1989 we walked across the upper deck of the aqueduct - no guard rails or anything. { and I've got a pic of me looking over the edge to prove it]Very high and pretty scary.
That was a tough one scott really pushed yourself there glad you got ok worlds beautiful place like i say i know zilch about france each country so different thanks and happy travels hope you had a well deserved cold beer later
I know you like to walk and explore but do you advise someone - a friend, colleague, someone in the place you stayed the night before, etc. - of your daily plan(s) and your anticipated hour of return? Or do you have a contact somewhere in the world with an anticipated time to make your (daily?) checking-in phone call? Your remark about hikers possibly finding your body two weeks later, or the vultures getting their feed first, while humourous might also be scarily possible. I enjoy your videos despite my concern.
Good on you Scott, and it's so hot!! Better to wear light colors with the heat.. Wonderful video again! From now on, think about renting a bicycle, or a step! Take care, and respect!!
Absolutely LOVE all your videos whether local or European and beyond. The fact you go above and beyond (calf/knee pain up Ben Nevis or heat exhaustion on this one for example) shows how much you care! Take it easy lol! Looking forward to the next one! 😂
Blimey, I had visions of you being carted off in an ambulance! Congratulations on your fortitude, your suffering was worth the effort for the stunning scenery and magnificent aquaduct.
I know how hot it can be in France at this time of the year. I also recognise the remoteness of such an environment in France. And you walked far too far. Buying the blue map of the area would have given you a much better information . I hope you're okay and I hope that in the future you treat extreme heat with the respect it deserves.
Great video Scott but the fact that there was hardly anyone else on the paths is not surprising. It's unadvisable to be out in the sun between 2pm and 6pm around Nîmes as it's the hottest part of France every summer.
Wow! That is one impressive construction, with amazing dressed stone blocks, beautiful design. These Romans knew a thing or two about building! It looks uncomfortably hot though, your fans are concerned for you. Stunning video with gorgeous views though.
As a child we always went on car holidays to France and we visited the Pont du Gard on one of our holidays, even as a child I was very impressed 🤗 Glad you finally experienced it too! It is definately worth the trip! 🤗 I am lucky that musquitos always seem to prefer my partner and not me 😝 Guess I am not sweet enough to their liking 😂 Yay! 😝
Although Scott, I’m sure a lot of your subscribers will say you shouldn’t have done that in that heat, I’d say you knew it was going to be hot the day you went or the next few days coming up and you only live life once, make the most of it, great content and glad you found what ultimately you were liking for, hope you had a few cold ones to celebrate and great idea of staying in Nimes and visiting what it had to offer.
I was holding my breath while you were chattering away not far from dehydration. Certainly not a sensible decision on your part to do this hike in such terrible conditions . I'm sure the Griffins are cursing their luck . I drank a pint of water at the end of the narrative. Very interesting though . Imagine being part of the crew detailed to construct this stone marvel . Roman holiday .
In those sort of conditions, when you come across some water (be it a fountain or a pool etc) get your hat really wet, and ideally your shirt too. Even if you cant drink the water, Evaporative cooling is pretty effective.
Had you persevered with the walkway at around 9min 30sec it would have taken you up to the visitor cantre and cafe, this is where most visitors arrive. The road walkway beside the aquaduct was an 18th century addition designed by French hydraulic engineer, Henri Pitot. Prior to its construction the only way across was by a niche cut in the suporting arches higher up. Anyone involved in aviation will recognise the name as he was the inventor of the Pitot tube long before it was used on aircraft. Much of the stone used for the walkway was "robbed" from the North end of the viaduct, something that would be treated as sacrilege today. When the viaduct fell into disrepair, locals also "repurposed" stone to build dwellings.
Brave man scott what is the saying "only englishmen and mad dogs go out in the midday sun "....Oh and scott the scotsman 🤣🤣 Only been once there but with a pram and kids couldn't visit like you did, Pitt you could visit the beautiful town of uzes, check it on the internet
Don't you ever do this again! I live in a desert. The heat is no joke, and a video isn't worth you risking your health. I spent half the time worrying about France's rescue services having helicopters. Consider yourself duly chastised. 🤨 (That village was gorgeous, though.)
I kind of agree. Walking in the "garrigue ", alone, , by 38 is kind of dangerous. I am also surprised that those paths was open. Because of bush fire risks, those paths are usually closed during summer. Happy it turned oit ok.
Scottish blood liking insects? Not all please. Born in Edinburgh, raised in Glasgow. Love the heat. Hotter the better (Luxor at 51c) never been bitten. Not even the midges at Loch Lomand
I thought it was only mad dogs and Englishmen who went out in the midday sun?! Please stay safe mate this could have easily ended up as one of those true crime videos where they find your camera but not you! I love your other videos, just not this one 😮
I love these longer ones, but not much shade out there mate, I'd be holed up in that wee tunnel all day :D Great video!
That was a killer of a walk. I should have learned my lesson by now, but obviously not.
Visited yesterday, thanks for the video.

cats are like us! they are careful whith old water, prefer fresh falling water. hot outhere, fine video Scott😎👌👍
Walking is healthy 0:37 . Such pleasant surroundings along the walk path.

Really enjoyed this video, rather you than me in that heatwave! The Romans never sees to amaze me..😮
good to see you living life Scott👍
That was like a Hitchcock movie. I was expecting you to collapse at any moment and then get Med-evac out of there. Be careful out there. We need you to keep making videos. Don’t take such risks! I would have given up miles back!
What a fit wee man you are Scott! I wouldn't be able to do these walks and trips but thanks to you I can cadge a lift with you. Thank you so much. 😊🙏

Well done Scott. That looked like a long hard slog in that heat and terrain. Scenery looks lovely from the comfort of my sofa 👌
Reminds me so much of the Highlands! Well done that man.

The good thing about these remote paths is you can pee when you need to without people staring at you.
The cicadas would send me around the twist. Think winter would be better for me.😂
Thank you for your videos.
Have you thought about joining the Foreign Legion? Yomping all day, with minimal hydration, you'd fit right in.!! Great vid btw. All the best.
Cracking video Scott lad. Appreciate the hot hot hot trip ... well done! There must have been at least 400 billion cicadas on your route 😀
Scott - you have amazing stamina doing all that walking in such heat. I would be worried about getting lost in the remoteness. Thanks very much for bringing us along, though please take care in future.
Yeah, I'm not doing that alone, but with some company and good maps...
You really need to hydrate more AND start earlier in the day.
Riding a bus is not evil!
It’s making me thirsty just watching you. Well done.
Brilliant video Scott thank you but please take care
The beauty of going out in the mid day sun!!!! We've all done it. A great video!
GOAT

Scott I was worried for you the whole time my friend. But it really was beautiful! Do take care on your adventures! Sincerely-a nurse haha
Amazing video! Thank you for sharing!
Great video Scott
Admire your stamina walking in that life sapping heat, Scott. Great video. Hope you got back to Nimes ok and a nice cold beer or two!😊

Beeline for Scottish Blood .... well, you could call it Mosquito line. Tough guy Scott.
That was a tough one scott really pushed yourself there glad you got ok worlds beautiful place like i say i know zilch about france each country so different thanks and happy travels hope you had a well deserved cold beer later
Will be in that area next month. We have a house there. From a fellow Paisley man...
Really scary that Scott. And the noise would have done my head in. Try not to do that again buddy. We need more videos, but not hospital ones 😂
Brilliant video Scott.
Hot stuff Scott. Take care.

Agree with all of your comment.
What an absolute legend you are, If you had a Fitbit on I reckon you might have gone close to or more than walking 50,000 steps + for the day.👏
Good on you Scott, and it's so hot!! Better to wear light colors with the heat.. Wonderful video again! From now on, think about renting a bicycle, or a step! Take care, and respect!!
Good walk! Must have passed 20K there, or more!
Absolutely LOVE all your videos whether local or European and beyond. The fact you go above and beyond (calf/knee pain up Ben Nevis or heat exhaustion on this one for example) shows how much you care! Take it easy lol! Looking forward to the next one! 😂
Mosquitos making a beeline...very good and I'm sure the Hairy Bikers did an outdoor cooking spot for their TV show there.
Blimey, I had visions of you being carted off in an ambulance! Congratulations on your fortitude, your suffering was worth the effort for the stunning scenery and magnificent aquaduct.

phew !!
Great stuff Scott. A treat to say the least. 🙂

Thanks for the video Scott. Those noisy cicadas apparently make that high pitch noise to ‘Jam the radar’ of moth eating bats.
Stunning , thankyou for sharing. Have you been to the one in Segovia Spain , it's in middle of town , Romans were amazing

Walks like that one you should have a buddy. I can rake the heat but the humidity is what zaps your strength. Keep safe.

This seems like an amazing thing to do... when its like 25 celcius or something :D
Scott, very interesting, but the last part was quite painful.
Some great videos the last while of your French trip. Mont Ventoux on a bike next please 😂
Go careful Scott, you are on holidays so don’t overdo the walking

There are good reasons to travel to southern Europe in the spring/autumn for sightseeing and not the middle of summer.
Stay safe on your travels, Scott, that Slazenger polo shirt of yours must have taken a battering that day 😂
My fav country is France
If you don’t want steps go to Belgium or Holland which are flat or closer to home Lincolnshire.
The Romans built properly❤
You should try to get to Ventabren, great little town. Aqueduct there too. Biggest stone on in the world I think. Not done by the Romans tough.
I plan to go there next March. This seems to be far more walking than I expected. I wonder if its difficult to get there by public transport.
I was holding my breath while you were chattering away not far from dehydration. Certainly not a sensible decision on your part to do this hike in such terrible conditions . Forget Google maps.
IGN (the French Ordnance Survey) do an excellent range of 1:25000 maps covering tracks and paths.
"You can tell its hot here"

Garrigue
So what's happening with your Rusty Nails channel?
Great video... But stay in Scotland midges don't make that constant sound lol
Wonderful scenery but nothing more important than your health so take care
🥵🥵🥵

Only been once there but with a pram and kids couldn't visit like you did, Pitt you could visit the beautiful town of uzes, check it on the internet
Thats too warm for a walk
Walking is healthy but in that heat it can also be dangerous! Heatstroke can kill you.

I enjoy your videos but this one was uncomfortable viewing. Doing silly walks in that heat for a video seems a bit unnecessary.
Nonsense. The mans living life and loving it.
I wonder how Europe would have developed had the Roman Empire lasted a few more centuries than it did, discuss.
Great video. Just for info don't pronounce the d in Gard, it's pronounced Pon du Gar 😊.
Ooh Scotty the Hotty. Please don't do this again, your country needs you 💙
Mosquito take a lot more gaelic
Watching this is very uncomfortable..
I thought it was only mad dogs and Englishmen who went out in the midday sun?! Please stay safe mate this could have easily ended up as one of those true crime videos where they find your camera but not you! I love your other videos, just not this one 😮
Bloody awful audio
I really enjoy your videos and thank you! I do hope you will go to Morocco!
