A product that was ‘invented’ in Nimes, a product owned by most, Denim.......derived from the full name ‘Serge de Nimes’. Just a little trivia for you🧐

Thanks. I was just about to ask the same thing. I'd heard that a long time ago. I also heard that Blue Jeans was originally Bleu Genes, manufactured in, I think, Genoa. Could be wrong, it was a long time ago I read that.

Visited in 1965, but been through since. Stayed in hotel opposite the station. Wonderful city. Easily reachable by train from U.K. in well under half a day, so no need to fly. Great video, brings back fond memories. Looking forward to your next video from Nimes.

I visited on an Interail trip in 2001 and have been to Marseilles several times. Loverly place and people. I have a few trips coming up in the next few months to Berlin, Seville and Cordoba, and Krakow and Prague. Thanks to your plane tips keeping everything as cheap as possible and I was genuinely surprised what great value the hotels are and how cheap the rail fares are everywhere compared to the UK. Enjoy this area of France it’s beautiful.

Yeah the " City" part after the brand name indicates its a convenience store rather than a proper supermarket. In The Netherlands we have the same, the largest chain Albert Heijn has a "to go" version of the stores with more ready to eat stuff at higher prices and hardly any traditional groceries, typically located at train stations and such.

I love this channel, however when I travel I try to stay away from Costa, McDonald's, BK, Starbucks and all the international chains. In Europe there are always independent small cafes and bars that need business and have much more interesting offers... so far (having watched 30 videos or so) it seems international chains are all that are on offer everywhere... a little sad really

Hi Scott from Spain. I like French cities/large towns and even small towns/villages. Did you not do French at school? I did and I left school, 66 years ago but I can still manage to read it and speak some but it gets confusing when I also have to manage Spanish. One of my go-tos in a foreign town has to be a supermarket to see what they have and how much they have to pay for it. Supermarkets used to be banned from selling bread on a Sunday to give the small bakers a chance, I don't know if that is till the case. Enjoy yourself and we'll look forward to your videos.

The marble fountain that we see at the beginning of the report called Pradier Fountain because carved between 1845 and 1851 by the Swiss sculptor James Pradier from a Nimoise Protestant family who fled France after the prohibition of the Protestant religion by the King of France Louis XIV was built on the site where the guillotine was located during the French revolution, expiatory by the royalist municipality because had been guillotined at this location for having opposed Robespierre , the uncle and father of François Guizot, born in Nîmes prime minister of the French king Louis -Philippe 1st . The marble used to make the statue is the one that was used to realize in 1840 the tomb of the Emperor Napoleon 1st at the Invalides in Paris and the woman who serves as model for the statue is Juliette Drouet companion of the sculptor Pradier and who will also be the mistress of French writer Victor Hugo.
Little known fact the station of Nîme is one of the oldest in France because built between 1839 and 1844. It marked since the 19th century the border between the old town and the periphery and was the witness of the tragic history of the city because on March 2, 1944 the Germans who occupied the city hanged at each arch of the viaduct of the station hostages in retaliation to attacks by French resistance fighters. And she was miraculously spared the destruction on May 27, 1944, when the American planes left Corsica liberated by French troops in September 1943 , with the mission to destroy the station, beat their target because they were flying too high to escape German artillery and destroyed instead of the station initially targeted, the fire station and the city hospital causing hundreds of deaths and injuries in the civilian population Important railway junction linking Spain and Italy and the Rhone Valley to the north of the country, Nîmes also has a little known but very interesting railway museum that traces the long and charged history of the station with the exhibition of the oldest locomotive having driven on the station of 1857 as well as that of the first high-speed train having circulated in the station of Nîmes in 1982.
