Oh the anime is amazing, no doubt, but it's always interesting to see the original manga and what made it so popular (honestly could have done without the sexual innuendos and thoughts of sex in the manga, but it's for teen boys in the 90's, so I don't hold it against it)
My first time reading this series has been with this omni vol 1. Been loving it so far!
I've been wanting to read Initial D for years, so I'm really excited for these new releases. Great overview, as always.

Initial D + Fast and the Furious = speed car hobby. I’ve had a supercharged 1989 Toyota MR2, 2002 Toyota Celica GTS, 2005 Mitsubishi EVOVIII MR, and a 1980 Datsun 280ZX because of this series so yes I’m extremely excited to finally see this release!

The variant covers look really cool, but will probably go with the standard covers since they give a nice car manual vibe and that will probably look great with all of them on the shelf. Thanks for putting out a video on them, can't wait to finally read the series.

I wish the spine was more dynamic sense. This is the same thing as a two and one in Japan with the lines running through the D logo and the word initial in large text and dynamic plus the small text next to it in kanji spines are what people look at when in stores I know Kodansha could do it we saw the hardcover 3 in one release of ghost in the shell, and that spine Looks very clean.(big problem by the way why is this the same price as the two in one hard covers of Vinland saga that also have some glossy and colored paper)

I love how Kodansha keeps the original Jp sfx/onomatopoeia with subtitled english sfx and adds very detailed translation notes in the back of the volume like with most of their series also a updated localization compared to the original tokyopop one
For anybody wondering the fable two and one I got it 4 days earlier amazing release, good quality, and I would save myself. This tune one is the same or even better then the paper quality on the KC and there 2in1 and 3in1 paper quality use is also the same ones they use for the high-quality good series much better then the initial D 2in1

The new translation may be more accurate, but I actually feel like the dialogue flows more naturally between characters in the original. I know we're not supposed to say good things about anything Tokyopop, but that's just my take.
edit: To be fair, these impressions are from the few pages you displayed.
I love it but its incredibly easy to crease the spine! Any tips how to avoid this with future Omnibuses? Also, should I worry about getting it creased? I ain’t ever planning on selling any of it but it bothers me a lot.
Is there different printing of the first bus? I just bought mine and it shows 2 making it a second print from my understanding. Was wondering if there is a first print out there.

eBay for 2-3x the price. I wanted it REAL bad just found out late and missed the chance to buy it for retail. It's not worth $65/$70 dollars for a brand new release imo especially since I believe only the first volume will have that Kinokuniya alternate artwork.

Would have preferred them to release every 2 months, but at least it’s releasing every 2.5 - 3 months. Some other series have ridiculous release dates, like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure for the last 9 years of 1 every 4 months, far too slow, but thankfully they’re now releasing them quicker.

Had to hit sub since I bought a new bookshelf because I’m starting to collect comics and manga again, just randomly found this channel and this has been a huge help with deciding what versions of each manga I want to collect.
Really loving the OG cover art on the Kinokuniya edition. Sadly, it looks like they sell out super quick on their online store. I'll be passing through the Atlanta area next week, so hopefully I can find a copy in their store :)

Apparently if Innocent sells well, there's a good chance The Climber will be released by Dark Horse. The Omnibus Collector spoke to I believe the lead of the Dark Horse manga divison and that's what he was told. He shared this information in one of his videos. Might have been a video on Innocent can't remember for sure but if you want to hear it you can find it.

Comparison hype this series is legendary, the way you cover is easy to listen and comprehend keep up the great work. The updated translation was a must have glad to hear it confirmed.
Are the cover variants only being made for the first volume, or will each volume have three variants total?
Hey, unfortunately it looks like the alternate covers are just a volume 1 thing. Crunchyroll has the first 3 volumes up for preorder but they only have an exclusive edition for volume 1
I was wondering the same thing after seeing vol’s 2 & 3 solicited online. Weird choice by the publisher to only do the first volume. I love the original art variant, but I don’t want it to be the only one in the entire set.

How did F&F rip this off? F&F was based on street racing culture in Southern California at the time (late 90s, early 2000s). Drifting didn’t hit mainstream in the U.S. until mid-2000s.

I’ll admit the premise to this doesn’t really appeal to me, even though I really like cars, it’s just I’ve no interest in a story about them. It’s the same as sports manga, I’ve absolutely no interest in those stories at all.
if you liked cars i think you should give initial d (1998) a try, the only thing holding it back is the outdated cgi

@@apexdnaI’m in a similar boat. Outside of Akira, Dragon Ball, and DBZ the only mangas I’m into are car or motorcycle related. You just can’t find that kind of stuff in western comics, it’s all superheroes, crime, horror, sci-fi, etc. for the most part.
For volume 2 and beyond, I hope they release the Kinokuniya version because l do like the original manga cover.
