Great review. I gave the movie a thumbs up, and I saw it day one. I spent 9 years in Marine / Naval aviation. My MOS was O2 systems and aviation parachute rigging so needless to say I never saw tension or drama between pilots just real close team work. The only tension I saw amongst pilots was during Red Flags and everyone including ground crews wanted to look proficiant amongs other services. My main critiqes would be the bombs mounted on the wings. They were large calibur at least 1k lb or more. I think the pylons would snap off. Possible with a center mounted weapon maybe? The other was the SA3's that is an old SAM system but it was a good light show. I think it was the movies mig28. You are right no evidence of search and tracking radar. I would think that type of defense would have a point defense system like a Pansir S-1 or Tunganuska including radar directed AAA. Stealing the F14 was so GTA. I still think the movie was entertaining. I will not be so over critical on the review like some of the pro sim pilots have. 😂👍12
Yeah some AAA, a few IR missiles and a single SAM battery should take care of most threats. There is still the threat of high level but if we're pretending the GPS jamming was legit that can take care of that. It could have been much more realistic. I thought the bombs looked like GBU-12 LGBs? Were they something else? To be honest I just assumed they were and never stopped to look at them closely. But the Hornet can carry GBU-10 (2000 lb) bombs on those stations so I think it's legit either way. Anyway, there was a lot to critique about that movie and to be honest I really wanted to do a 2 hour video talking about all the things I found wrong about it. But if I'm honest, it was a fun movie to watch and there was also a lot to love about it.
They could just have hung up some wires or a net under the bridge or at various places in the canyon and it would have been impossible to use as an attack route.
