SASHIKO I made a beautiful Sashiko tablecloth with the Hanmaru-tsunagi pattern

  • Thank you for watching!
    To draw the pattern, you'll need two circle templates.
    The diameter of the smaller circle is a half length of the diameter of the larger circle.
    I used 8cm and 4cm diameter circles. If you are measuring in inches, it can be, for example, 4in and 2in.
    The measurements (the width and the length) of the whole grid should be a multiple of the diameter of the larger circle.
    My larger circle was 8cm, so I made the size of the whole pattern 48cmx48cm.
    If you are using a 4in circle, it can be 16inx16in or 16inx12in (or your preferred size).
    The size of squares for the grid should be the same as the diameter of the smaller circle. My smaller circle was 4cm so I drew a grid of 4cm squares.
    If your larger circle is 4in, the smaller circle will be 2in and the squares for the grid will be 2inx2in.
    It will be easier to draw semicircles, if you draw a cross on the larger circle and a line through the centre on the smaller like mine and align them with the grid lines.
    The way I stitched is just one of the examples. You can stitch the pattern differently to mine. The way I stitched in this video avoids acute curves as much as possible. Stitching acute curves takes more time and skill than stitching gentle curves.
    After stitching Sashiko, I cut another piece of fabric into the same size and put the two pieces together with the right sides facing each other. Then, I sewed along the raw edges with 1cm seam allowance leaving a 10cm opening. After sewing, I flipped the piece inside out and did a top stitch all along the edges.

    This is the most complex Sashiko pattern I have ever seen, I love💕it. Thank you so much for showing all the details and the close-up shots, so we can see exactly what you are doing the entire way. And your extra tips such as easing the tension often, stitching under the intersections and taking fewer stitches at a time when stitching curves are absolutely invaluable. I truly feel confident in trying this new-to-me ancient style of embroidery - Thank You! 🙏😊

      海外でも刺し子はすごく注目されているのですが、皿付き指ぬきといった刺し子の道具が手軽に揃う国は少しなので、手に入る物を使ってできる刺し子を視聴者の皆さんからアドバイスをいただきつつやっています。
      コメントくださってとても嬉しいです。ありがとうございます😊

    Beautiful pattern, very well explained and demonstrated. i am being watching many videos on this stitch and i found your video to be the best one for beginners like me. if i had to make a table runner how do i calculate the table measurement with this pattern? is it possible that you shoot and share it?? Thank you for all your videos.

    • @thegreenwrapper
      @thegreenwrapper  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you so much😊 The basic idea for the calculation is in the description of this video.
      I think the easiest way is to determine the size of the large circle first.
      If you are using a 4in diameter circle, multiply the diameter to your preferred size, such as 16inx40in. Add 2in or so to the width and length for the seam allowance and the outer edges.
      Thank you so much for your suggestion😊

    What pen are you using here? I am having trouble finding a white pen to use on navy fabric.

    • @thegreenwrapper
      @thegreenwrapper  Рік тому

      I used Clover’s heat erasable pen. It makes clear marks but it doesn’t completely disappear sometimes. Try it on your fabric before using. I normally use a water-erasable type. Most sewing supply shops have one.
      I have a video about erasable markers too.

      @@thegreenwrapper, I watched your video about pens a few days ago. I've heard that the heat-erasable ones sometimes show up again if the fabric gets cold. Given the climate I live in, I don't want to take that chance! And I know from quilting that chalk pens/pencils rub off easily. I haven't been able to find a white water-erasable. By the way, I absolutely LOVE this pattern! But I just started a pre-printed piece, so it will be a while before I get to make this one.

    • @thegreenwrapper
      @thegreenwrapper  Рік тому

      Thank you so much for watching many videos😊 Heat erasable pens are a bit tricky indeed. I used the Clover pen in the video I stitched Kakinohana and it left the marks after trying to remove them. Do you think you can find a water-erasable type online? It’s often difficult to find certain tools here in Australia too. I want to source them locally as much as possible but it’s not so easy for me either🙁

    • @DeForestRanger
      @DeForestRanger Рік тому

      @@thegreenwrapper, I've been hunting on line, can't find anything I think would work. I use chalk when I'm quilting, but it doesn't matter so much if it rubs off as I sew. The various washable pencils (white) break very easily, and in any event, don't leave a clear mark on dark fabrics unless you go over the line multiple times. To put this in perspective, I'm a fiber artist with over 50 years experience behind me, and I still don't have a workable solution.

    • @thegreenwrapper
      @thegreenwrapper  Рік тому +1

      When I watch older videos showing Sashiko, it seems that people used to use either chalk or chalk paper. I’ve tried them before and they did fade while stitching so I needed to add new lines many times but I guess that’s how people used to do…
      Otherwise, I sometimes draw a grid with a Hera marker or a chalk pencil because it doesn’t matter if it fades while stitching. And I draw the lines to stitch with a heat erasable pen. For stitch lines, it’s not so noticeable even if the lines don’t completely disappear because the thick threads stand out more. But again, you need to try with some sample fabric first to see how it goes.
      As you can see from my videos, I’ve had problems with erasable markers several times. I’ve been making lots of mistakes and showing them because I’m keen to learn some advice from viewers to find better solutions.
      I’m still searching for the ideal marker. I would love to know if you find one😊
      Thank you so much for sharing your experience❤️
