Thanks so much for the no BS quick and efficient Strat tremolo install! I have been viewing about a dozen videos of these and they all have unnecessary information or they dont actually show the install.
Fender have a video installing the vintage trem with the 6 screws and the other trem that slides into the two poles on the body good video tho easy to understand
I have just the tiniest bit of play in my 6 hole strat style trem for my Kramer baretta special. I'm replacing the chrome with a black one. So how do I know where to do the final screw lockdown ?? do I put strings on somewhat to see how everything lies. ?? Or will the final tighten of claw set that trem where I finish the tighten of the 6 screws ?? Thanks
There is a widely mentioned point about the outside 2 screws will be slightly more snug than the inside screws, which do nothing but keep alignment. But you didn't even mention that one way or another.
+Doug H. in VA Thank you for your comment. That is a very good point, thank you for bring it to our atention. We will have to revisit this video and let others know. Have a great evening.
Thank you for doing an awesome video that shows you what you need to do. My question is is there any kind of adjusting or tuning do you have to do to the bridge itself up or down back or forward so the harmonics are right when you try to tune the guitar in the tune guitar Tunes correctly or is it just you throw it in and it's good to go. Cuz I know that when the guitar comes out of the factory laid to him on an oscilloscope and they are just the bridges as well and I just wanted to know if I will have to do that because I have to replace the bridge on mine if you get back to me thank you very much I would appreciate the advice and again thank you for a good video have a nice day
I have no existing holes for the bridge. How do I position this? Centered? Or should I be measuring for correct intonation? I think I just answered my own question.
Well if you look and see the back of the bridge touching the bodh when you pull back, don't pull it further into it. Only Floyd rose sorts go both ways lol
That's the whole point of this type of trem having that front what he's calling a "blade edge," you can set the back end of the trem up slightly off the body in a floating position so you can bend up by pulling on the trem arm as well as pushing down. I setup all my Strats this way. Not nearly as much upward bending action or travel as say a Floyd Rose allows, but enough to be noticeable. Watch Hank Marvin play his Strats this way, or even John Mayer. It works even better if you remove the middle tension spring from the trem block.
I wonder is there a plate they make to screw to my tremolo bridge plate then mount to my guitar to make it a hardtail ??? mines a left handed Kramer focus Strat.
Thanks a lot for your video. i know its being a while, but i will ask anyways :). is this procedure the same for the Wilkinson 6 screws bridge? i still dont get it what is the reason of the 6 screws. My strat has only two holding the bridge. thanks for any help
i have a roadworm 60s strat and i feel the tone sound a little muddy to me, i was thinking in upgrade the bridge for a callaham or maybe fender pure vintage brigde with pat pend stamped saddles, what do u think should be better choice ?
+Benjamin Alvarez thank you for your comment. The Callahan Vintage S is a great aftermarket tremolo system and is about $50 less at most places than the Fender pure vintage bridge. I think you would be happy with the quality of both. Good luck.
It should really be entitled - replacing a 'like-for-like" tremolo on a Strat. There are two types of so called vintage tremolos and the difference is a different hole spacing. alas, this video is for people who probably do not even own a screwdriver. I was hoping to learn how to best fill the existing holes and measure correctly the right position for the new ones.
If you live in a major city, you probably can find a good guitar repairman. That’s what I do for installations of hardware. Fortunately I live close to some excellent repair centers with highly trained guys
As i've found out, Slowly tighten the screws until the bridge pivots then use a quarter turn to loosen off then it should settle perfectly.
Totally agree ,should have done one screw at a time then back it off ,so the tremolo falls flat each time.
Did you get that from the fender video?
Fantastic! I have no mechanical aptitude, but your tutorial helped immensely in showing me how to do this step by step. Thanks so much!

This is the best video (and maybe only video) that really shows you how to install this type of tremolo. Thank you!
+Guitar Lava thank you for your comment. Have a great day.
I know right. Cheers for the Video.

finley omg someone that just gets to the point. you were so so so very helpful. u jump right into great job,
Thanks man Just what i was looking for. My squire Affinity strat only came with 2 springs. lol
Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks for your video, really informative.

Dumb question but if your building a new strat which would be better to install first the bridge or the pickguard assembly? Any way easier?
I install the claw on an angle,So as you look at it the left is a little tighter.
Why do you do it that way?
@@rollinlikeariver7756 I think it's to compensate the stronger pull from the thicker bass strings.
I have no existing holes for the bridge. How do I position this? Centered? Or should I be measuring for correct intonation? I think I just answered my own question.
If it's a little off the body is it too tight? It's only a little bit.
What is the name of the six screws? I bought a bridge that didn't include them and id like to Know the name for buying them at the hardware shop
what if your body doesnt have pre drilled holes!!
Thx!
what are the torque values for each hole.....
is the arm only supposed to move in one direction ie towards the guitar body
I'm not a luthier but I'm pretty sure, much like Margaret Cho, it goes both ways.

I have a question:can you install a bar with locking on this tremolo??
is the tremolo always this loose?
Does cort X1 have that same tremelo?
Also how can I remove the handle only.. Is it screwed?
What's the block made of?
Aluminum
I wonder is there a plate they make to screw to my tremolo bridge plate then mount to my guitar to make it a hardtail ???
mines a left handed Kramer focus Strat.
You can put jam a block of wood in the back there. That's what Dick Dale did.

6 screws is the vintage style and it's still used on Mex Strats and Squiers; the two bolt style is on American Strats.
The lowest tier American Strat also uses a 6 screw

take it to someone who knows how ~
Good video but screw driver was hard to bear on the ears. This will get to people to not continue with the video. Hopefully that helps your likes. 🎸
very true
I'm building my strat now. the pickguard and bridge seem to slightly touch when they're lined up. is that normal or?...
+Jared Hunt thank you for your comment. Yes that is common. You may have to do a little tweaking to get it just right. Good luck.

In my view you should have removed the paint on the part where the bridge pivot.
+lorenzoschiavetti197 Thank you for your comment. We will look into trying that the next time we complete a project like this. Have a great day.
That block sucks..switch it out for a Callahan
