What if I don’t have a trembler with the Post system. Six individual screws vintage Stratocaster? You can’t screw those damn to lower action. You have to lower them with the saddle. That being said, will that throw the whole process of tuning that G string using tremolo “ genius, by the way” I’ve seen somebody else do it, they gave you no credit. I let everybody know where it came from. My sister and brother-in-law just got handed down six villas in Tuscany. Or Tuscana. Beautiful. Let me know if lowering action with saddle flows off your newly set up tremolo. by the way, I’m an American. Bye a made in Japan Stratocaster mid 80s. It will be the best fit and finish feeling strategic after you ever played. Unless you’re already aware. Just trying to pass it along to you.
I know, thank you for doing this. Unfortunatly there will always be people who make your ideas their own. They could simply use the idea and credit you, but their ego prefer to do so. In the meatime I have ideas :)))
This video is nearly 10 years old and it is still one of the best on UA-cam. If there was an award for the most clear and concise video on UA-cam on any subject this would be right up there along with your follow up video on the 6 screw trem. Not only is it informative it is done with encouragement for the viewer. You are a natural teacher. Every teacher of any subject in the world should watch this as part of their training. Many thanks.
My firs impression was, "Oh no, I'm going to have trouble understanding this guy", but this was an EXCELLENT demonstration, easy to understand, very detailed and thorough, without extraneous biography, like so many other videos by people who love to hear themselves talk. This video lets you see what a real pro is doing when he sets-up your tremolo. He's the BEST.
I agree with most of the comments. I tried this last night and it worked great. I had gone from .010 strings to .009's and my tremolo was all out of whack. 20 minutes later and it was perfect. Thanks
This is arguably one of the most valuable guitar setup videos I've ever seen. My father passed just over a year and a half ago and I recently acquired his guitar. Nothing special--an old EVH Wolfgang clone. Until now I'd rendered it unplayable as it has a cheap 2-post tremolo. This video has brought it new life so to say and I'm happy to be able to honor my late dad by getting his guitar properly setup. Cheers!
@Michelle Louise Davis Get a grip Michelle, they guy wrote five sentences. To be fair, you bored me after one word. I'm no pancake expert, but I know a tosser when I see one.
@Michelle Louise Davis Calling me a youngster? Thanks, I'll take the compliment :D Yep, no content...Thanks for looking though Michelle. Now I understand :D
The post-it note trick is so simple. I've always done it the old fashioned way, which required about 6-7 re-tunings to finally have all the strings in tune. Thanks for the shortcut!
Thanks a million Galeazzo. I had been putting off setting the 2-point trem on a customer's strat... Took my laptop to the workshop, set up, followed you step by step. Great help.
Awesome video. One thing I would like to add is that after you keep the sticky notes at 4:44, would be the best times to adjust your 6 screws on the bridge. At this point tighten the 6 screws so that it just touches the plate. Now, at this point, try to lift the tremolo arm up/outward. It shouldn't move. If your tremolo moves upward it means you should tighten your screws. Also make sure that both sides are still parallel as said in the video.
This guy is a true craftsman and this is the best video on this topic that you could hope for. He totally demystifies the process of floating a two-point fender strat bridge and shares multiple tips and insights that are, by themselves, worth the price of admission.
It is hard to overestimate the genius of this. I've owned my strat for more than 10 years, operating it as "fixed" or "dive" only. This was a relief, and a whole new dimension to my strat! THANK YOU!
Have a gig tonight, changed my strings and somehow the trem/tuning setting went out. Saw this vid, re-set the trem & & voila. Brilliant video that even a non-tech like me can understand. And using paper to set the bridge was inspirational. Thank you so much - saved my bacon! Rich
This guy has the best setup videos on youtube... i tried the setup methods that he has on another video for Floyd Rose trems.... i tried it on a cheap Ibanez trem and it worked perfectly... i always stayed away from Strats because of the trems... now i can get one...lol... thanks for the videos, its very kind of you to show us how to do this stuff.
Really great help! I just upgraded the bridge/block assembly on a Squire strat and it looks like this will help with the 6 bolt strat bridge as well. I'm going to try it. Thank you
Thanks a lot for this video. I had my Strat set up today and the guy tightened my tremolo to the body. I was like I can’t use the tremolo. So he raised it back up and the action is too high now. I’ll be able to fix it myself now and I will never pay someone else to work on my Strat ever ever again. Thanks!!!
* Grazie, Galeazzo! Si ritorna la gioia di giocare con uno strumento sempre sintonizzati! Un abbraccio dal Brasile! * Thank you, Galeazzo! You returned the joy of playing with an ever tuned instrument! A hug from Brazil!
Another suggestion for your consideration: After you tuned the strings with the "pink" pad, you can just unscrew the tremolo screws until the "pink" pad falls indicating a balcance between the strings and the springs. I enjoyed all your videos, thank you! jc
Mr. Frudua, I applaud your contribution to scholarship and humanity. This video should be appreciated by every Stratocaster owner from now on. If only you and UA-cam had existed in 1954 !
Grazie mille Galeazzo! I bought a neglected Fender Strat for $20 and replaced one bad pickup, tuners and of course strings. With your videos I adjusted the intonation, bridge, truss rod and tremolo. Now the guitar stays in tune, is comfortable to play and sounds beautiful. You are a master!!
Possibly one of the most essential videos I've ever found on You Tube. I can honestly say, this video was so easy to understand and helped me many times.
This video is fantastic. I've used this technique for multiple strats and it always works. Sometimes I watch it just because it's relaxing. :D Thanks for the great video, Galeazzo!
I'm glad I found this video again!😌 I've tried this a few years ago, and now I had to do it again, but I couldn't remember anything or find any other tutorial like this... Many thanks for this!!
I can’t get the intervals even though I am doing everything as you say. Also, do I set the saddles before this or after? At the parallel or decking bridge? (Cause I figure if you move saddles as the last movement, you’ll mess up the action)
On 20 years, it is the first time I can to anything I want with my tremolo and stay in tune! You are absolutely amazing and thank you to have find all those solutions.
Awesome video and worked exactly as described! I didn't have a pad of post-its laying around so I used a checkbook instead and it worked just as well. I liked being able to reference what check number I used too so I knew the exact spot of thickness.
One remark: if you turn the pivot screw with string tension (to lower or increase action as shown at the end of that video), you will scratch it with the plate's knife edge and this will impact the ability of the tremolo to return to its "zero" position.
When I first got my strat, I thought it was "broken" when the bridge was high up off the body. It looked very unnatural. So I set it up to be almost completely flush, but just barely off the top. Well, something kept telling me that I didn't like my guitar. I finally followed these instructions for floating, and now I absolutely love my Strat. I don't know what I was thinking before but sometimes you just got to try new things!
@@sixslinger9951 yes it does. Combined with giving the unwound strings a couple of extra wraps above and below, it's very difficult to move it out of tune. Super stable, yet plays loose and free, all around.
Decades ago, the prospect of adjusting the tremolo bridge was for and miss, no instructions, no logic. This video have me the confidence, the correct instructions and the excellent step by step thorough understanding of what I needed to adjust and why. Thank you!
Quite the magical solution frudua! It’s like a tricky fishing knot. I’ve been back to this video more than a few times to review how it’s done. Very smooth work, seems to cover everything, plus a bit more.
Thanks so much. But my tuning goes sharp when I pull the tremolo, and flat when I dive. I have to manually kind of shake it back to return to perfect pitch. Bridge makes a click sound when i go up more than one note on G string with tremolo. Already lubricated the nuts. Anyone else facing the same problem?
That often means your springs aren't at optimal tension. Choose the right number of springs for the gauge of strings. Usually 3 springs unless using heavy strings. They have to be set so that even at the most relaxed position they are still somewhat stretched. If they are too relaxed at rest then the guitar wont return to tune.
I saw this video years ago and converted most of my Strats from locking Trem to 6 screw. I normally don’t have a problem since I know the whole tuning by spring tensions but I had a recent incident where your truck tuning the 3 rd. string to E. The results were great. Thank you so much and if money starts rolling in again I will be glad to donate. Chuck
Men I have a question should this set up be made after intonating the guitar? or should it be done before I´m having trouble with the tunning after adjusting the floating tremolo, it just wont stay in tune. And Its weird because its seems that when I use the tremolo bar the guitar looses its intonation and everything goes out of tune I have a fender stratocaster americal deluxe and it has the LSR Roller nut, which is suppose to help with the guitar intonation overall the guitar, and eventhough it wont stay in tune Do you have any advise for me Frudua, Ill aprecciated
Thank you for your well laid out and informative guidance on setting up a 2 point tremolo, it really works! My Strat would not stay in tune after I removed the tremolo blocks. In a short amount of time I was able to get the tremolo set and stay in tune. You are awesome.
I just set up my '88 american 62 reissue with this video. Trem was originally flush. Now floating and stays in tune better after heavy use! Great videos Frudua.
Thank you for a great video and simple explanation of how to set up the tremolo, I wish there were more videos on UA-cam that keeps it short and simple 😊
As an update to a previous comment I made. I just fully floated my bridge a la Jeff Beck in my cheap Stratocaster copy and this technique is definitely the way to do it. The whammy bar is now very light to operate and quite honestly loads of fun. Tuning stability is quite good with minor retuning necessary after each piece of music.
Superb teaching. I applied it on my very old (now) Aria Pro 2 Lazer Electric Classic. My first bought guitar which I finally used only blocked vibrato because of dramatic tuning. I learned so much about standard vibratos. I like working on guitars. You made my day. Thanks a lot man!
After almost 40 Years playing strat-style guitars I finally learned how to setup a floating STANDARD tremolo. Followed both of your videos (setting up the 6-screw and this one) and it worked PERFECTLY on the the first try!!!! I just finished setting up my second guitar this way, and it came out perfectly, too. I owe you big. You are an absolute genius! The idea of using post-it paper blocks as a sort of distance meter is brilliant! And works like a charm! Thanks a lot!
Hi Galeazzo, just want to say thank you for this and other "How To" videos. Found this very helpful when I bought new guitar with floating tremolo, (other guitars I own had Trem set to be down bend only) when I changed strings your video got me out of a pickle when the spring to string tension was no longer in balance. Thank you again great work, take good care of yourself.
Thank you so much, Mr. Frudua! I did it here in my modest Ibanez GRG 150. It Works great! Hugs from south of Brazil (many Italian immigrants here, like me, lol)
very good instruction....Ive been playing for about 40 yrs or so and i always have not been afraid to learn how to adjust my guitars over the years...very good since most people don't realize what your showing...excellent!
Ive followed Darrel’s way of floating the trem for my 2 other strats since it follows the same concept- minus the post it notes. But this video has helped in a different situation. I was having trouble setting up another strat I have. I may have played around with the 6 point screws which had varying pulls to the bridge. Started over and made sure that all screws were of the same height and followed this video on floating the trem using the G string instead and tuning from the claw. Works wonders! Thank you!
WOW! this tutorial helped me a great deal , as I was following your foot steps I discovered that my high E string tremolo post or screw was off by 1mm from the rest . this made the bridge sit on the pic guard at one end . I pluged the hole and drilled it in the proper location . Now it works like a dream . The guitar must have been built on a Friday lol . Thank you so much . I never would have discovered this without your instuctions . Thanks .
Simply the best video of how to set up that type Stratocaster Trem system I’ve ever seen. Absolute Genius. My new American Elite is now perfectly set up and stays in tune WAY Better than it ever did before. Really appreciate you posting that up, and I thought your way of explaining it all was spot on. Thanks a lot man. AJ
Hello Galeazzo! I've been working on stringed instruments since the 1980s. However, I'm always trying to continue learning and developing my craft. That's why I often go to UA-cam to research what others are doing, and how I found your page. This is a great video, sir! I've watched the one you did on a Strat with a six screw bridge as well. Galeazzo, I've had my own methods for setting up Strat tremolos for some time, but I found yours to be quite educational! I had never thought that using post-it notes with a tuner could be done in such a clever way! Thanks for sharing what you've learned!!! -James
Thank you FruduaTv. There is nothing better than typing in what I need and it popping right up. I was at the part I needed in no time at all. Thanks for sharing what you do. I'm going go and float my floating trem now. :)
Came across your great videos a few years ago and followed one to set up a six-point trem. I just got a Vintera '60s Mod. Strat that has a two-point trem so I thought I'd follow your advice once more and it worked perfectly. The best method for setting a floating trem in - if not exactly seconds! - then pretty quickly and easily. By the way, one small error, that's not a Philips driver that you used on the pivot posts!
Ho appena effettuato un set up su un ponte fat10 di una ibanez rx160 made in korea del 96 con questo stesso metodo illustrato da lei, e ho avuto assoluto successo..grazie signor Frudua, le sue guide sono la mia salvezza.
I've been wanting to set my strat up with a floating tremolo for a while...I paid to have it setup with it on the deck for easy restringing but to my ears the tone suffered by having the block jammed against the wood inside the guitar. So, I gave your method a try today and I can't believe it took me this long to finally set it up. I can use the whammy bar all day long and it still stays in tune, love it! To stay in tune, apply chapstick to the nut grooves using a toothpick.
Hey Galeazzo...... I've never really worked on my guitars before apart from changing strings and stuff. But I have a Jeff Beck Strat where the 2 point tremelo was locked against the body and therefore I could only bend the note down but not raise it. Well I saw your video so I decided I would try your method. Well I have done it and now I can bend the note up with the whammy bar but it's still slightly short by about 1/4 of a tone. I was so pleased with the result and, now I know what to do, I'm going to adjust it again in a couple of days to get it exactly right. A really big thank-you for helping me out, Galeazzo. I now feel much more in touch with the guitar. Cheers Red
I tried this procedure and it actually worked for me! On an Epiphone S310 which is a plywood bottom of the line guitar. I put Super-Vee Super glide on the nut which likely helps, but that's all I did. The tuners are original which means they're low end generic but they do not go out of tune! I'm a lone player in my house, I dont get stupid with that trem arm. Kudos to you for making this video and "duh" to all those who are vindictive toward Chinese guitars.
Thank you so much for sharing your videos.I just bought a G&L Doheny tribute I love the guitar but I was having problems with my floating tremolo. It feels like it's rubbing on something and sticking. But I want to try your method and I'll get back with you with the results. Thanks again from Indiana.
I love all these videos. Everything that was just a mystery is now coming into focus for me. I have learned a tremendous amount. Thank you. I just wonder what order I should perform these adjustments. New Strings first, then Tremelo adjustment, then action adjustment, then Neck relief adjustment then pickup adjustment? I don't want to have to back track too many times because I execute one out of order.
I have Jackson JS22 Dinky with 2 point tremolo bridge and this video was big help to get this guitar to stay better in tune when bridge is floating. Thanks! 👍
I set up two strats several years ago with this info, one a 6 screw tremolo, another with a custom 4 screw setup. They both stay in tune very well now!
I really like this guy...I'm about to try it myself on a build I just finished...except for setup, But all of these Frudua TV vids are great, and I'll probably run through several more in completing the setup.
Great video my question is where do you start with the two pivot screws on the bridge so after the setup the action is where you want it you said to screw both down what about the individual string saddles for example to have 4/64” action at 12th fret
What if I don’t have a trembler with the Post system. Six individual screws vintage Stratocaster? You can’t screw those damn to lower action. You have to lower them with the saddle. such an American way of thinking 😂
This is the best guide to setting up a floating bridge I’ve seen in 17 years of playing.

I think he taught everything that needed to be taught lol

This has to be the most creative method i have ever seen.
Very clever indeed. You are a true master of your craft!
THANK YOU!!!
This is the best set of tutorials on guitar set up I've ever seen- Why and How is explained with utmost clarity and simplicity- God Bless You!
How did it take me 9 years to find this? Brilliant!
-James
Gracie Mille! Super good video!
Bought my first strat three months ago, now I've done a floating bridge setup on both mine and my friends strat!
Thanks a lot. Set up my relatively cheap Fernandes strat with 6-screw trem according to this guide. Works amazingly well.
Greetings from Russia.
Thank you FruduaTv. There is nothing better than typing in what I need and it popping right up. I was at the part I needed in no time at all. Thanks for sharing what you do. I'm going go and float my floating trem now. :)
I now have 4 Strat's; this is how it's done. Follow this video and enjoy!! Thanks man!!!
By the way, one small error, that's not a Philips driver that you used on the pivot posts!
from 2011 to 2022 almost 2013 still the best vid on setting up totally fool proof an totally genius
Ho appena effettuato un set up su un ponte fat10 di una ibanez rx160 made in korea del 96 con questo stesso metodo illustrato da lei, e ho avuto assoluto successo..grazie signor Frudua, le sue guide sono la mia salvezza.
Nice Job! I went from anchored down to floating in 15 minutes. Thanks. Where do I donate?
I've been wanting to set my strat up with a floating tremolo for a while...I paid to have it setup with it on the deck for easy restringing but to my ears the tone suffered by having the block jammed against the wood inside the guitar. So, I gave your method a try today and I can't believe it took me this long to finally set it up. I can use the whammy bar all day long and it still stays in tune, love it!
To stay in tune, apply chapstick to the nut grooves using a toothpick.
Great video and explanation from a man who obviously knows what he is talking about. has worked a treat !!
Thank you very much
Hey Galeazzo......
Cheers
Red
I followed this instructional video and it worked. I was a little apprehensive to try it but I’m glad I did. Gracias Galeazzo.
Wow 2011 still and always relevant! Thank you for doing these videos and sharing your knowledge.
Fantastic way to setup a floating tremolo which was easy to understand and replicate.
Thanks for sharing this!
Just bought a 2-point trem a few days ago - now , thanks to you I can set it up and keep it tuned. Where do I send your check?
I love all these videos. Everything that was just a mystery is now coming into focus for me. I have learned a tremendous amount. Thank you. I just wonder what order I should perform these adjustments. New Strings first, then Tremelo adjustment, then action adjustment, then Neck relief adjustment then pickup adjustment? I don't want to have to back track too many times because I execute one out of order.
I have Jackson JS22 Dinky with 2 point tremolo bridge and this video was big help to get this guitar to stay better in tune when bridge is floating. Thanks! 👍
Hands down, the absolute best videos for learning how to work on my guitars. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
There appears to be at least a dozen of us anxiously awaiting that tutorial : )
Mr. Frudua is great.
...and busy, as any talented fellow should be.
An excellent video. What if the "post" height has been played with?
Great video my question is where do you start with the two pivot screws on the bridge so after the setup the action is where you want it you said to screw both down what about the individual string saddles for example to have 4/64” action at 12th fret
Fantastic. I have screws all along the top bit of the bridge. Do I loosen them or keep them screwed down?
My man is the best teacher in the universe.
I Have owned multiple Strats over the last twenty years, and somehow I never noticed the set screws in the back!!!! This absolutely blows my mind!!!!!
Some of the best guitar 🎸 videos on UA-cam
Thanks
Love your videos for the non professional. Easy ways to do things without professional tools. Thank you
