This is one of the best missions for annihilators, but a bit too punishing for non-annihilator armies. I’ll nerf both the mission and annihilators for public release. New friend Hybrid Dominator: Removed armored tag. Has energy regen. Uses psionic shockwave. Auto attack deals splash and has slightly longer range. Yamato has larger splash. Upgraded, psi storm casts 5x at once. Perhaps the most boring of the hybrid changes, but it’s already threatening in vanilla. I had plans to give them planet cracker like in nightmare HotS but it’s not super interesting since toss has so many siege options. Harbinger of Oblivion Remove cheese. Remove gas stealing. Defenses are mix of Tal’darim and Moebius Kerrigan’s attacks are way stronger. Kerrigan has 700 hp instead of 600. Kerrigan sends overlords to scout attack waves for you. Hybrid waves no longer get pinged Expansion near 1st objective +Tal’darm Destroyers Kerrigan ignoring the last crystal is a bug. Normally her waves start really weak and get stronger as time goes on, but I reversed it (cuz you know, she’s losing all her hives). Even after her waves get too weak, she still helps with scouting ovies. This mission has some of the biggest mixed-race defenses from the enemies. And also lots of hybrid variety.
I would hold off on changing the balance until after playtesting it with the Kerrigan bug fixed? Having her actually help with the last area might fix the balance issue of *requiring* the player to go Annis.
the 3 main ingredients to make a good mission with allies: >allies are strong >u can't beat the mission without ur allies >ur allies can't beat the mission without u and i'm pretty sure getting those 3 at once is a pretty hard challenge, never take it for granted if someone manages to pull it off
Not just "pretty hard", it is a razor-thin line. Though things like the vile roaches are exactly the kinda of allied units that make it a bit more doable, as they might not quite the damage themselves to push through, but you as a player can instead take advantage of their debuff to push harder than you would otherwise be able to
To be fair, I think I enjoy it when you go through a game a second time. While it's fun to see your first reactions, it's also super impressive to see you play it seriously knowing what's to come and be challenged. Super cool stuff
Exactly. Yes, Im sad I dont get the initial reaction and the initial trial and error of the mission, but honestly, I really dont care at all. It would be different if this was the norm, but it isnt. So instead its almost like a refreshing change of pace and then we will get back to the norm next time.
That overlord spotting the incoming harassment at the four minute mark (game not video) was so satisfying! I know the ai probably isn't toooo advanced, but those little helpful things coming into play almost immediately? That was awesome
That's a similar A.I. allied dynamic that I saw back in the "Brothers In Arms" mission. As I said before, it is VERY difficult to strike the right balance between "worthless" and "overpowered" with an AI partner. It looks like the synergy there wasn't a fluke; Rhyme sure is a master!
This is how I always wished Kerrigan worked on this mission. Having competent allies is cool and fun. Normally I dont even care about timing my attacks in SC2 to align with the timing of my ally because what they have to offer is rarely worth waiting for. With this is makes me feel like I actually have an ally and makes me want to work with them.
I like to imagine that this specific Grant is actually from a year into the future, and he decide to travel back in time to help himself out with this mission. The problem, though, was that he didn't just need power to make his time machine work - he needed to steal the power from something that exists right now, without changing his future and causing a time paradox. So he decided "I know I recorded that episode, so I'll just steal the power from my mic! I'm sure past me won't mind." And that's how his mic went out😂
Kerrigan actually is useful finally and there's a second base. Yeah, this mission is much better in nightmare compared to normal. And I like the Overlord spotting, that was a nice touch.
I think the best aproach is to be honest and truthfully, surely you could just fake it and pretend it's your first time, but by being honest i guess it's the better way to do it. Kerrigan not helping in the end was most likely a bug indeed. Also i loved that she is stronger, i also wonder, are her units the nightmare version of the zerg as well? or just normal units?
I really appreciate that you take the time to make sure you are happy with a video before releasing it, even going do far as to skip a day of uploads if you have to
I love the design that you get harassed by banshees and wraiths as if the intended way to deal with it is to use the unlocked unit (high templar) to feedback them
No worries, we all make mistakes. I think re-playing the mission is totally a fine option. I also think if you added a voice-over to the first attempt that would also be totally fine, although that might get awkward with multiple restarts / reloads.
I believe Hybrid Nemeses (the flying ones) show up in Templar's Charge as well. Not sure if they show up in The Host too, but yeah they do show up more than once.
They exist elsewhere in the base campaign but they’re pretty forgettable. They come in pretty big numbers in Last Stand but after that, there are like 6 total. And it’s not like they do much. Normally they occupy a niche that’s already way too full (armored, long-ish range flyer). But now that they’re light, they can threaten anti-armor units
You know what might be a good change to help make Annhilators less nesscary? Give you the Artanis Hero Unit from last mission. He's there in the initial no-build segment, and it doesn't really make sense that he just disappears after the fact. Obviously he's not super damaging but a good tank can do work
I feel the nightmare difficulty is actually 2 steps above brutal or even more, not a natural progression of difficulty. Just a double whammy of nerfs for you and buffs for enemy.
@@goliver9991 There are many missions in the vanilla campaigns that reduce the amount of money in mineral fields on higher difficulties. Usually it’s between normal and hard, but it isn’t unprecedented.
it is brought up though, most of the roster has been buffed slightly. a few units are nerfed to encourage variety as well, but not too much@@goliver9991
I’ve always been of the opinion that when the difficulty increases, your ally should get better too. As if they also scaled with difficulty. Not enough to make the mission easier of course, they get stronger slower than your enemy, but better allies make for better depth of strategy
I really like this mission design, even if it's crazy hard. Making the HT matter thanks to feedback and, as always, making the ally and the player feel REALLY strong while still challenging the player is absolutely awesome! I love it! ^v^
hey grant, i usually wait to watch your series so i can bing them at 2 am and thats what i plan on doing, but i got sucked into watching the junker mod series and i was really confused why there are episodes missing :p
Before preforming my Hybrid Analysis, I have to say that having a good Kerrigan is great, ashame about the derp out at the end. Next, the depleted geyisers are funny X3 And finally, what's the archon's passive?! O^O Okay Hybrid data time. I love the Harvester's return here, it charming ^3^ Nothing to update. Dominators don't have any new spells, but I see why Rime held them off, Rapid energy regen makes them easily twice as dangerous, but High templar get far more useful here as a result of this energy regen! It's reall really cool!
All of the immortal variants are really good, its just that vanguards are insanely cracked units. Annihilator can do what Grant just did to every mission. Even the base Immortal is insanely tanky and if given shield regen it’s actually immortal. They form a solid backbone to any ground composition and will live to the end of missions if supported.

👏👏👏
with all these changes to hybrid, including keeping in the flying ones for other missions, I get a sense we are getting closer to the hybrid campaign~
Empty gas geysers, Rhyme is an actual monster.
Though thank god the ally AI got buffed, it always sucks to lose because your ally is a braindead husk.

Phrasing, Grant. Phrasing...
Grant: makes high quality, informative, and entertaining content.

The humble dragoon once again proves its worth!
Competent AI ally so pleasant to watch and remind me about Invicta campaign

Gotta love when I can go to your channel and the video won’t even pop up, only in the subscribed stream, that’s when you know you’re early

Now I'm hyped for Brothers in Arms(?)
That mission in the sequel where you keep taking forward bases until you kill Duran
So, the bonus increases, in case anyone was curious:
1.5 (base storm radius in lotv) -> 1.9 -> 2.9 for a 26.7% and 53% increase respectively.
Fenix deploy in 16:52 was brutally murdered in 5 SECONDS... holly crap, that was Fast.
Don't worry about the way it played out. Was fun to watch how you adressed the mission.
The mutas that spawn in the middle of the mission, I think they were actually yours to control.
The psi storm radius boost works out to +60% area covered which probably means about that much extra damage dealt by psi storm.
If you still have the footage of the original mission, could we maybe get it with a post commentary? I would be very much interested in that.
Amon would be a fan of turning games into sweatfests.
I love your videos grant, everytime you upload it makes my day a little better :)
Thanks for the fun! ^^
I applaud Rhyme for making the ai gas empty.
You all should be ashamed for stealing from your allies and getting away with it for so long.
Empty gas? I'm a bit disappointed in you Rhyme... :D
I think using the footage and adding a commentary would be neat if something like that happens.
Annihilator has always been the strongest immortal imo.
I didn't quite get that mastery thing, why did he left 5 solarite unallocated?
"We poke and pull out, poke and pull out?"
Ahem.
We lost Kerrigan... For now...
But stay with us, I am sure there is a lot more excitement to come
Amon's mistake was using hybrid and not the power of Grant's dad jokes.
I'm still eagerly awaiting for the mission that'll take Grant 2 hours to beat.
I think Grant made a really good choice picking Corsairs back in unit selection. They would've filled in a lot of the gaps in the Annihilator/HT comp.

that sad becose we missed the like an hour episod and we cant do anythin about it but we all know that there will be more long videos in this serie
I believe that the few forces (those Mutas, random Ultralisk) Kerrigan sent to the final crystal are taken from her retreating forces.
I feel the nightmare difficulty is actually 2 steps above brutal or even more, not a natural progression of difficulty.

had to rewind just to hear you say annialatastic again.
that archon shield got depleted by wraiths!

I love mods with AI companions not being absolute garbage, those missions suddenly have completely different feel to them ..
When will this nightmare mod be available to download?
Upload the first part as a gameplay no commentary video 😂

I think the fraction is 88/330, which comes to 0.26666..., which, with rounding, comes to 26.7%
26.7% is likely actually 26.666(repeating) percent, being 4/15ths of 100

I did feel that way somewhat, especially compared to HOTS but then there’s stuff like the Shakuras defence mission that’s mental

26.666 is 80/3
