Dude, I'm two years late to this, but I had an evap leak. Couldn't trace it, tried smoke and everything. Change the purge valve and still had the issue. Lived with almost a year. Turns out, the purge valve I replaced the bad one with was defective.

I've had this po456 forever...had diff. shops ck it, smoke it, nothing found! Now I delete the code before inspection and it passes. but it annoys me! and gas mileage is being affected I think. I replaced parts in the engine compartment. code still persists. I really like this 2003 Durango and plan to keep it. (185k miles) still strong!

Great vid. Some of the things you may consider are: 1. Set of cheap multi tester leads for applying power to a solenoid, just easier to control. 2. Q-tip 👍great for getting out the moisture great job. 3. Dielectric grease to lubricate the solenoid power connector, easy reseal.
These are cheap and work miracles.
    Great job!

Firing off the parts cannon is not usually a good method, but I wouldn't say you fell victim to the gas cap. It is a cheap part, and I think it is worth it to try before digging deeper (time is money too). Also, on an older truck, the gas cap is probably towards the end of its life in regard to sealing. You did right trying the gas cap first, in my opinion.
    Another great video, ty

Jam up video. I get these codes when it seems that the weather starts changing. I too changed the cap that I actually have a few extra laying around. I now have another thing to check out next time it throws that code, excellent video. 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 3rd gen. My truck is great just has the piddly little issues the 3rd gen seems to have. I can usually look in dodge forums and figure it out, but your vid was straight forward and helped me out greatly on this reaccuring issue. ✌️

More likely to be the nvldp natural vacuum leak detection pump. But the MOST likely is a cracked vent nipple on top of the fuel tank. The custom fix is a hinge roller pin to stabilize the broken nipple and covered with JB Weld, unless you buy a new fuel tank, if one even exists, $1200. Fuel tank from junkyard might work, but probably nipple is broke or about to break. The only real diag is to smoke the entire system and find the leak. For emission testing purposes you can fill the tank and clear the code and do a drive cycle. The evap code sensor is inoperative as long as the fuel tank is over approx 90% full. Also, on the federal IM test, you can have one module not ready to test as long as the mil isn't lit.

I have a 2007 dodge Ram 1500. And that’s exactly what my problem is. Roll over valve on the tank. I’ve replaced the full pump, purge valve, gas cap, charcoal canister. After all that I figured that it must be the nipple that broke and I did my best to glue it in attempt to fix it but…..
And yeah you can’t get it from dodge or OEM. Not the one I need. I’m thinking about going to a junk yard. Pulling a 35 gallon tank off of another dodge.
I have the dreaded “gas cap”. Light on my dash. Driving me crazy

    Just a fyi bud.
Ok I'm a industrial machinery maintenance mech. Tech 42+ years. I Work on a lot of cnc grinding machines that have coolant running on them.Water does not effect dc voltage as in shorting like on AC.
You can put lines on your + - battery and stick both into a bucket of water and nothing will happen and you wont get shocked. That's why vehicles and machines like grinding machines control components that are exposed to the grinding coolant are dc voltage.
Water is not a good conductor of electricity. Especially with DC.
    but
Will cause corrosion after a period of time.

got a Dodge Ram 2011 V-6, only 73,000 miles, so I got the P0456 Code, and I saw some videos, I decided that I would change the Evac Solenoid first, why? Because a lot of the videos have one thing in common, they changed out the Evac Pump first under the truck and the engine light came back on the dashboard. . I just took off the battery, and I un-screwed the bracket, and I took off the 2 hoses according to the videos that I had seen, and put the new one back on. I did buy a MOPAR Evac Solenoid because I really don't like to use after market parts, and its cheap about $35.00. Took about 15 minutes to put on, and answer the cell phone too. Been driving the truck now for about 3 days, so far No Engine Light, and if it does come on, then I will get under the truck to change the Evac Pump. No big deal. Was it necessary to take out the battery? For me, it was easier that way, gave me more room to work with. Take your time, be patient and you will be OK. Thank You.

Just leave the top hose on and take the bottom hose off and feel the solenoid side you took the hose off for a vacuum. It shouldn't be pulling anything when it's at idle, and not purging. If it sucks your finger a bit you found the small leak.

My truck 2005 dodge ram 15000 5.7 hemi threw 3 codes, P0440, P0113, P0441....I removed the filter and washed it with a high-pressure hose and allowed it to dry in the sun for a good 2 hours. I reconnected filter and all 3 codes disappeared. However, after 4 days without the check engine light being on, I performed a self-diagnostic and code P0585 showed, but the check engine light is not on. Shit is weird and frustrating. I love this damn truck and put a shit ton of money in it. Bro, your 2003 is close to 400K miles. Have you had to replace any major mechanicals? That mileage is very impressive. I currently have 136k. Had to replace transmission once (go figure) catalytic converters, all 4 o2 sensors, water pump, valve covers, etc...
