    Thank you for defending the wholesomeness of the show. The same characteristics that existed in the Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. My family was flawed just like every family has flaws, but that family dynamic is what we strived for. It was what my parents tried to provide. It was not unrealistic.

      Agreed. The show resonated with many for portraying that sense of wholesome family togetherness. You have kids today watching 50 year old episodes for the same reason.

      Every so often I read a comment from a poster who saw the BB as respite from the turmoil in their home lives.

      Right, that was before the establishment started to demoralize and corrupt society through tv and movies. Before shows like Married With Children, etc. made fathers look like idiots and where the kids don't respect their fathers. And they make it look like having a family is bad for you. You know, they actually tried to show people and families with morals and ethics. That is a big part in why society is like what it is today....Monkey See, Monkey Do, they know people do what they see on tv. Enjoy! Kurt in Santa Rosa, Ca.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this interview. Such a unique path to an iconic career & role. I'm grateful for the show & glad the entire cast was selected to create our "fantasy reality" through The Bradys - the textbook example of how families could & should interact (even if we didn't have that in real life)! Even to this day, i consider it my "security blanket" as Chris says because no matter what's going on in my life, watching the show always brings me a feeling of peace, joy, & security. I wish all the cast members well with any and all future endeavors, & thank them all for providing such great performances to elevate our lives! Love you guys always!!!

      There most definitely is a comforting warmth when watching The Bradys and many other shows from childhood, but the Brady Bunch is right at the top.
      Thanks for watching!

    My favorite, and most handsome of the Brady boys. I remember in the '90s, every day after school my twin sis and I would put a pizza in the oven, turn on TBS, and watch The Brady Bunch. I love this.

    I haven't watched the Brady Bunch since I was a child in the early '70s, but certain scenes and moments are etched forever in my memory. Christopher (Peter) was my favourite of the Brady Boys. Whatever crazy story lines were thrown at him, I found him believable.

    In the mid-1970s my parents split up when i was young. About 5-6 years old. Mother retained custody of us kids. After the split, she turned into this psychotic, abusive monster. I turned towards watching LOTS of tv as a way of providing myself with escape and comfort from my misery.
    Out of the many, many tv shows i watched in daily syndicated reruns, the Brady Bunch was (and still is) my number one favorite tv show. The Brady Bunch tv show more than just entertained me. It helped me to preserve what few shreds of sanity I had plus provided me with much needed happiness, laughter, and joy in an otherwise joyless existence.
    More than once my mother said to my face, "I wish you were never born." Can anyone see Carol Brady saying THAT to any of her 6 kids? Much less multiple times?
    The Brady family i saw on tv is the family i wished i had. Nice, normal, loving, no abuse, etc. My desire to belong to the Brady Bunch family was so intense, that on more than one occasion, while I slept, I actually dreamed that I was a Brady family member. They are easily the fondest, most happiest dreams I ever had in my lifetime.
    Dont get me wrong. I had no illusions. I was well aware that the brady bunch wasnt a real life family. Just a bunch of actors playing a part. But at the same time i just knew that the fictional brady family was much more closer to how a real family was supposed to behave. And much, much more closer to happy, loving, and above all, NORMAL than my real life family, home, and circumstances.
    I swear, if I ever get rich, I'm building for myself an EXACT replica of the Brady Bunch home.

      So sorry that you experienced that. Amazing what some shows can do for you, and glad the Brady Bunch became a life preserver for you. That show, still to this day, brings me back to memories of childhood as well.

      I can relate. Eight Is Enough was my escape from a miserable family experience. It's too bad your Mom couldn't seek mental health counseling. Verbal abuse towards one's children leaves deep scars.

    Another great informative and balanced discussion of the range of his career and life in the industry. I remember when he appeared on an episode of the Krofft Show Bigfoot and Wildboy in late seventies. He played a boy who was bitten by a wolf who was experimented on and he became enraged and strong. Great job overall on this episode guys.

    He came to where I work in Vegas a few years ago (a Cirque du Soleil show). He and his group came to my station. He was turned away and another person handed me the tickets. I saw the name on the tickets and was just about to say, "That's the same name as the guy who played Peter on The Brady Bunch," he turned around towards me. Being a big Bradymaniac, I was star struck. Everyone else disappeared and reached out to shake his hand. He was very nice and I'm sure I embarrassed myself.

    I identify so much with Christopher, aside from my name being Gustavo, a Germanic/Spanish variation of Christopher, I was the middle child of three boys with three sisters, all of us born within 7 years, 1971 - 1978. We grew up with the Bradys as Mexicans living the American dream. I had a magic show, beat up and gotten beaten up just like Peter. I always wanted to say this, doesn't Chris resemble a more clean cut version of fat Mike from NoFX?

      When I was an outbound caller for a data research company in Calabasas, Ca, miles down on Ventura blvd. From Brady home in Studio City, my Alias on the phone was Christopher Knight. When I been hearing the podcasts with Barry recently, the way he introduced himself was about identical to the way I sounded over the phone, in a smooth suave sort of way with a deep tenor.

    • @PopCultureRetro
      @PopCultureRetro  10 місяців тому

    • @msr1116
      @msr1116 6 місяців тому

      Sherwood Schwartz wrote the character as divorced but in 1969 divorce was uncommon in conservative and still somewhat religious American society. The network didn't want Carol to have had a failed marriage so her status was not specified.

    • @scottmcneely1927

      @PopCultureRetro I thought the actors were talented, the writers not so much. All the Brady kids had acting talent, the Partridges down to Danny Bonaduce. The two youngest ones didn't have all that much to do. And David Cassidy's singing voice was quite underrated, because he sang mostly formula pop material. His voice was excellent though. He reminded me a lot of Howard Kaylan from the Turtles. But those clothes...ugh. I purged them from my closet sometime around 1980. And cut my hair, finally, sometime around 2000.
