I go to a church once a month. I got 3 bags green grapes, 4 bags nectarines, 2 dozen eggs, potatoes, 3 bunches bananas, cucumber, pinto beans. We don't pick. They just give you items. There is a couple with 2 small boys next door that I always share with.
aww polenta. I'm from Argentina so it's a main dish here. You can make a tomato sauce like for spaguetti and use it in your polenta. I don't know a recipe because i make it by memory, but i can tell you, i make sauteed veggies like eggplant, tomato, onions and carrots, then add the tomato sauce. Boil half water half milk with a pinch of salt and butter, when it boils add the polenta and keep stiring, when it feels almost like a potato puree it's ready. If you have add some cheese (the more the better), serve the polenta with the veggies and the sauce, YUM. It's a hot dish, if you want make something cold there's recipes. You can make sopa paraguaya (This is a cold one, and heads up, it is not a soup). Here in Argentina it is winter, so this is a dish that i would make right now. Also you can add meat, i'm a vegetarian so i make mine like this (and add pepper and garlick too!) Bye!
You are so right the resources that are poured into waste food is incredible. Glad to hear that you donate time at the food bank, keep up the good work.
I'm so glad you showing people what goodness can be made from what is gotten from a food pantry. We have to do what we have to do. Hubby & i are on Medicaid & SNAP and i don't take it for granted. I even tithe off my SNAP and give food to the food pantry. Many Blessings to you!
i diced my extra onions put themin small bags for small servings..i also started my winter soups by making potatoe soup and freezing it when i thaw it i will add the cheese and bacon,,very simple soup
Freeze dry mashed potatoes to make mashed potatoes in the winter . Same with onion if you can't use them both before they go bad. You can do that with the garlic to make garlic powder. You can make some Shepard pie and freeze to use some potatoes and onions up. Some twice baked potatoes and freeze . Just a few ideas.
I appreciate the way you explain the reasons for going to the food bank…a public service. 🙆🏻♀️ Really, half and half is half milk and half cream so it’s ready to go to make ice cream.
One of my favorite vegetables is green beans. Didn't get any this year the deer and rabbits ate them. And they were to expensive to buy. Do hopefully next year I will have better luck
How funny - our food giveaway had a bunch of the same dog treats.... I got a bunch of squishy tomatoes today too and am going to dice them shortly. The big score was about 3 lbs of strawberries - one of the volunteers dropped them on the floor. The person cleaning it up put them in the trash instead of compost - I grabbed the whole batch - will wash them good and freeze them for smoothies. (The trash can just had bags that we took off the produce so it was really pretty clean.) I will get the pictures posted on the facebook page later tonight of everything I brought home.
Lamb is best well seasoned. Costco has great Australian lamb chops, which are my preference. Put slots with a knife and shove garlic cloves inside. Oil the outside and use tons of meat seasoning. Refrigerate overnight before roasting.
Black Coffee Roasting Co. - Laura is code 1811 at the Good Food Store. It’s not decaf and it sounds just wonderful to a fellow coffee lover. Medium roast with hints of black cherry, licorice, strawberry, northwest forest and owl sounds, Laura has found her way to my coffee bucket list. Have a great caffeinated day Carolina!
If you have ground beef you could make homemade Salisbury steak! I use a lot of onions and skip the mushrooms if I don’t have any, I have potatoes on the side, I make the sauce homemade using better than bullion. So much better than frozen too! I freeze any leftovers :)
Mmm. Tomato 🍅 that smells like basil! Tomato & basil are the chocolate & peanutbutter of the plant world!!❤ Love your video and positive attitude as always!😊
Great score at the food bank. You could do lamb shish kabobs and use with the middle eastern mix with the olives and feta etc. Id eat it with pitas and yum, delicious dinner.
I'm australian and my mum always cooked a lamb every Sunday, she just lavered it in minced garlic with rosemary, put it in the over with potatoes, chipped up pumpkin amd carrot, can't beat it ❤
Yes, I used to work for a grocery store. And the food that is thrown away is really crazy. Yes would be nice if it went for the homeless and us that are struggling. So hard
Wow, that is a wonderful haul. That garlic looks like elephant garlic which is actually from the leak family but has the garlic flavor. Most people grow elephant garlic because of the size.
That's a great load of food. Lamb benefits of being marinated for at least 24 hours, 48 is better but you can decide on that after you open, if it can survive another day or 2 in the fridge. Vinegar and some oil in a big bag, any spices you like, rub the meat around, zip as tightly as you can, turn over every few hours so all sides get marinated
No ma’am I sugar my tomatoes. My mom always put sugar on. She said it cut the acid. You’ll have to try. That sure is delicious. My husband always did salt then when he tried the sugar he really liked it.❤❤❤
I LUVLUVLUV going to the Bread/Pastry Thrift Store! The price for 3 loaves of Bread/English Muffins/Bagels, etc., etc. used to be $ 3.00. Now it is 3 for $ 4.00. Still a STEAL, considering todays Grocery Store (through the ROOF) prices ☺️.
My mom would never say what was for dinner. It was partly a face saving measure. If we didn't know what it was supposed to be then we didn't know when something didn't work out and she had to start over!
I told my 21 year old I had gone to the food bank. He actually had the nerve to tell me we are living in poverty because we live paycheck to paycheck & I did an application for section 8 housing. We wouldn’t even need these resources if inflation wasn’t so bad. Also, my husband almost died in a tow truck accident a couple years ago and he can’t physically do that job anymore. He had to re learn to walk etc. losing that job caused our income to go way down. He now makes in a month what he used to make in 2 weeks. My 21 year old makes it sound like we are living in the dumpster. Meanwhile, he’s barely making it himself and is about to be living in his car. 🙄
Don't let his words affect you! Everyone is doing their best in these tough times, and such an attitude means he never appreciated you. If he is such a smartass he should try to live by himself! 😂
@@izabela8547 yeah, I don’t even know where he got that attitude from bc he wasn’t raised that way. I have 6 kids and always have shopped at thrift stores etc. he also says I don’t know anything about life bc I have always been a stay at home mom. He just bounces around from place to place since I decided I was done with his ungrateful behavior. His current roommate has given him until January to move out. I told him he can’t come stay with us, I don’t even have room for him. So he said he’s going to be living in his car. We have let him stay here before but he had illegal substances here with my other kids & was very disrespectful. There’s nothing wrong with going to food banks & using other resources, I’m not ashamed of doing it and neither should anyone else be. 😊💕

I sometimes watch a dumpster diver family and the amount of perfectly good in date food tossed is ridiculous. All that food could go to a food bank. But they toss it out.
I watch the same kinda videos. I have watch dumpster divers go to goodwill and salvation army and donate able stores. They find perfectly fine things and food. It's crazy!
Hello! I actually just watched one of your videos, from a month ago, but I’m getting ready to watch this one, and just had to comment first. I would’ve commented on the other video I just watched, but I wasn’t sure if you would get it, being that it was a while ago. I just absolutely fell in love with you, and your channel. So fun, so wonderful, made me laugh, and something I truly believe in. My channel is transitioning a bit, to this sort of content. Would love it if you stopped by, and became part of the family, if you like what you see. Looking forward to watching more of your channel, and getting to know you better. ❤ Much love, ~Kelly 🦋
Those look wonderful, but I have always referred to this as "Wet Burrito" rather than enchilada. I guess it's all about the spelling. Still delicious though.
Wow girl... you scored at the food bank!! It's awesome that you get to pack your own produce bag. I've never had lamb and I think the price tag $how$ me why. lol Where do I get in line for the enchiladas and ice cream??
MB, I'm right with you ! When I think of ALL THAT WASTE going to the landfill it infuriates me ! I'm glad your family is rescuing it from the landfill !!
Your video's are awesome! Nice score on the food haul👍Tip: When cutting steak or skirt steak, cut against the grain so you will be cutting into the muscle fiber and you will have a very tender bite. Thank you for sharing! :)
Why do people put Salt on nearly everything? I live with someone who has kidney failure and the diet consists of as little to no sodium and potassium as possible. I have found that eating foods at their most natural has been a great experience and delicious! Having never eaten the wraps you made, what is in the sauce?
Hi Mama Baird 🥰! I checked your Video "Description Box" in reference to Resources of where to start w/Food Bank info. A Bag Opener Link is the only listing I found. Can you direct/redirect me ☺️? (please advise, thnQ 👍).
Hey Carolina! I just went to the foodlink in my area. I ended up with a lot of produce. I am canning or freezing most of it but i got a bunch of radishes and Brussel sprouts. Was wondering if you would happen to have any ideas to process them. Thank you!

Van the potatoes and green beans together for a quick meal just add polish sausage or meat in crock pot just before you too the food bank.
Time to make potato hash pancakes or potato soup to freeze for the winter

Spaghetti sauce or tomato bisque base. All it needs is some cream & you've got creamy tomato basil bisque yummy.
That's a great load of food. Lamb benefits of being marinated for at least 24 hours, 48 is better but you can decide on that after you open, if it can survive another day or 2 in the fridge. I would definitely freeze dry some of the onions you could do diced up and then you could also blend up some to make onion powder.
If you do the 30 minute pre-freeze it really does make a difference in the ice cream
Oh thank you! I didn't know about the prefreeze feature! Thank you Angela!
I dice up onions, slice some and put in freezer bags and put in freezer
No ma’am I sugar my tomatoes. My mom always put sugar on. She said it cut the acid. You’ll have to try. That sure is delicious. My husband always did salt then when he tried the sugar he really liked it.❤❤❤

You could add some tomato sauce to the enchilada base to cut the spice factor maybe.
You can roast the lamb with garlic 1-2 French onion soup packets. Once lamb is cooked you can make gravy out of the juices.
When I was a kid, my mom would make potato cakes and sometimes add corn.
My mom would never say what was for dinner. It was partly a face saving measure. If we didn't know what it was supposed to be then we didn't know when something didn't work out and she had to start over!
You can make cornmeal mush loaf too get for breakfast. I use my cheese loaf keeper lined with plastic then put it in a zip bag.
When I get lots of onions I'll chop them up and put them in my freezer and I have them ready to use for future recipes
With steak make fajitas you have the vegetables needed.
I didn't know you could freeze tomatoes. Thanks for the info.
You bet!
You could can some of the potatoes so you have them for later.
Wondering if you get a better pic of food since you're working at your food bank? That's the best haul I've seen so far! Enjoy❤️
I got the bag cutter I like it a lot. What a great food bank haul!! Strawberry ice cream is always a winner. Have a blessed week 😊
