@@daft009I have heard it earlier but it was mainly because I found out about the movie like 10 years after they released it 😂 Living in the Eastern Europe sucks 😢
I highly recommend anybody learning music production to spend some time listening to the complex nature of how the bassline and drums interact with each other on this track. The depth of production on every aspect of the track are unreal. A true classic. I've always been fascinated with how the main piano riff was created, this video is a truly inspiring insight into a track that shaped dance music at the end of the millennium.
Having a binge on all the back story’s, it’s crazy this man was such a big part of my early life but I’d walk straight past him in the street. Great stuff
First heard this on Clubber's Guide To Australia 1999. Had not heard a track quite like it at the time. That synth drop is so huge! An absolute classic.
Heaven Scent is a legendary track! Seriously were there any DJ in the scene that didn’t play it back then? 😅 I can warmly recommend POBs remixes of it. He transformed it into something truly dark! Essential stuff! Thanks Nick. We owe you a lot!
Bedrock from the start has been my favorite from that era. I bought that first John Digweed Bedrock Compilation in 99 and discovered Heaven Scent. Rented the VHS of the movie Go from Hollywood Video and heard it again. I went crazy and bought every Mix I could find with artist featured on Bedrock and Global Underground. Started going to shows with Sasha and Digweed together and separate when they came out to Los Angeles. I missed that era from 96-05 and went crazy about 5 yrs ago and got everything on vinyl from Bedrock and many other progressive house labels. My Technics, Xone 92, and 1K plus records is one of my greatest possessions.
Yes I remember when I download the video from Napster on the year 2000 we played every weekend on my back yard we thought was local on the video comes out San Francisco warehouse 😅and live in California.
I absolutely love hearing the stories behind so many of my favorite Trance tunes growing up. I always feel so inspired to write music after watching them...Thanks as always for your videos =)
It's strange how Heaven Scent arrived around the same sort of time as Sasha's "Xpander" - both absolutely monster tracks and I own both on the original 12" vinyl. Both very "big" tracks - kind of a magnum opus moment for both Sasha and Muir/Digweed around the same time. I've always liked "Lifeline", the B-side to Heaven Scent - it doesn't get the same recognition but is just as good a track - it's like an alternate version of Heaven Scent that simmers and sizzles but never completely explodes.
I know what you mean my friend - some amazing dance music was released in this era. I was very influenced by Bedrock and Sash/Digweed - I've made a mix that I've put on YT very influenced by Nick Muir's style - here's the link - I'd appreciate your thoughts: ua-cam.com/video/_3sH6qJ4rRQ/v-deo.htmlsi=pY006jHeeHTEhrRA
Incredible interview, loved the part about the gods thing ✨, Heaven Scent is Bedrock Records signature and foundation and for all fans is our religion 🙏🏼
Great interviews by Nick. Gone very in depth with the synths he used and the background of them, what sound they were trying to achieve and what was around at that time. Not sure there's been a better interview on this entire channel for me, just with how easygoing and in depth he goes, even though I have many other favourites. Could sit down with him, with a pint in a pub and listen to him chat about this stuff all day
I first saw the movie "Groove" when I was 18 (I'm 41 now). I hadn't heard of John Digweed or Bedrock until then, but his track in the movie was incredibly inspiring. It influenced me deeply, leading me to become a producer, a DJ, and start a record label. The movie and its music had a significant impact on my life. Thank you so much for producing some incredible music over and over!
The background stories on all these classic trance tracks are really priceless - great work Twan, love to hear from the creators, makes it all the more human! And love the Quincy Jones reference in here, who is ironically also known for sparse, parred back (but essential) production!
🚒🚒🚒 thank you for such a beautiful song I’ve listen to every remix and mashup and I never get tired of it. I think it truly is divine and the Braves me to such a wonderful space. I know this is what Heavens gonna sound like! 😘
Another awesome interview. It was so good to hear Nick talking in depth about the equipment used, as well as the production methods and mindset they had when making the track what it became. The lead synth sound is so huge and iconic, and the overall pumping groove from that desk compression he mention really creates that special vibe it has. I’d have loved to have known where that robotic male vocal snippet which appears during the break is from though!
That was brilliant! Nick was brilliant and charming. A fountain of knowledge, i could've listened to him for hours. I also liked he had so much to say you just let him speak. Well done.

yeah love this, as a trance person, it's trance but certainly fairly unique,. The melody is so memorable. Quite like Greg Downey's more uplifting mix too.
I always presumed John brought the hook and Nick did the programming. Would love to hear from Charlie May and Steve Osborne and their relationships with Sasha and Oakey respectively.
Would love to do an interview with Charlie / Steve, but unfortunately I don’t have a travel budget for these interviews. Muzikxpress is “just” a hobby for me and the little advertise revenue I’m getting is being used for equipment and to cover a part of the costs for gas / parking for the interviews I’m doing in places in The Netherlands or just across the German / Belgian border. Maybe one day, but for now I don’t see this happening anytime soon, budgets are meh these days unfortunately… But, more to come for sure! 🙌🏻

Love this track. The POB Seismix has always been my favorite. While I love the original it has always had this weird thing about it I could never quite figure out. Heaven Scent, the original mix, has never behaved like other tracks from the era. I could never really figure out why. I only knew that production wise, it sounded like some other genres of music from the era. Hearing Nick talk about the track having that heavy compression makes sense though. I bet that's what it is.
