- Join me and my dad, affectionately known as 'Pops,' on an exciting wildlife photography expedition to Reddish Vale Country Park! As spring casts its vibrant spell, we're filled with anticipation, eager to capture the beauty of nature awakening.
From the moment we set foot in the park, the air is filled with the promise of new beginnings. Armed with our cameras (A Nikon Z9 and Nikon Z8) and a shared passion for wildlife, we embark on a journey through lush greenery and winding trails, hoping to catch glimpses of the park's diverse inhabitants as they prepare for the breeding season.
With each step, we immerse ourselves in the sights and sounds of the natural world, pausing to admire blooming wildflowers and listen to the melodic chirping of birds overhead. As we wander deeper into the heart of the park, our excitement mounts, fuelled by the possibility of encountering elusive creatures in their natural habitat.
From Mandarin Ducks and Cormorants to Heron hunting frogs in the reed beds, every moment holds the potential for a breathtaking photograph. With Pops by my side, sharing stories and laughter along the way, our adventure becomes about more than just capturing images-it's about creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Such an important message. And all credit to you for revealing your diagnosis Pops. I urge all of your male viewers, If you are going to the toilet more frequently than normal get your PSA levels checked. It may simply be an enlarged prostate. In most cases it is, but if it is cancer the sooner it's caught the better.

Great video Dan, it definitely helps when the wildlife are accustomed to humans, even if the humans walk in front of the lens. The full frontal Cormorant was absolutely wonderful, the eyes were like precious stones, and some superb Heron footage, great to have a camera on loan. Wish Pops the best of luck with his upcoming procedure, he'll be fighting fit in no time, just sitting watching Bullies Siskins Redpoll and a lone Brambling still hanging around the feeders, all the best Derek 👍

The cormorants are in breeding plumage Dan. The white collar & bright green eye is a signifier of this. Another excellent vlog from you two great guys again, & as you know I was privy to Pops’ ‘news’ prior to him announcing it here - but… Well done Stuart, good on you for facing up to it head on; & not only that, but big respect & a huge well done for spreading the word on the importance of getting yourself checked! I don’t want it to become the main focus of my comments on your wonderful videography & photography skills, but from my own life experiences I know where you guys are coming from & what’s still to come.

Great video. It just shows you what you can do with local Birds in the park. Also good luck to pops. I was diagnosed early with a PSA blood test, that was 16 years ago and I am still here and have no intentions of going anywhere. I wish pops every success with his surgery.

Found your channel a week ago - immediately subscribed. I don't know an ISO from my a**hole - strictly point and click is me - but I do know someone who is enthusiastic about nature and helping others develop their own skills when I see them. Your videos are both beautiful and fun to watch. I'm making it my hobby to see as many mammals as I can (UK on the list for next year I hope) so your tips on setting up for photography are also excellent for maximising chances of seeing wildlife.

Thank you for your kind words. Absolutely love my Z8 handles and performs just like my Z9. Don't get me wrong my Z9 will always be my first choice camera but for a long day out with lots of leg work my Z8 combined with Z400 f4.5 prime is the perfect lightweight set for me. Pops

Many thanks so great to hear about your success with Prostrate Cancer, I'm back home from surgery now and all's well plus they found a possible pre-cancerous tumor on my Appendix so whipped that out as well. If I had gone down the Radiotherapy route they would not have found that problem, having said that my surgeon told me that my situation was very rare in fact it was a first for him. Thank god for my annual check-up and had a PSA test. Pops

Great video as usual, I am in same age group as pops and have a Z8, I had my prostate removed 5 plus years ago and all is well now, they wanted to do surveillance but I wanted it removed, thank god this was just before lockdown and all ops and check ups were cancelled. All the best and do the pelvic exercises which are a great help.

Great video Dan, really enjoyed this. Firstly, very best wishes to Pops for the treatment and hope all goes well. Great photos of the heron with the frog. We regularly get a heron visiting our garden ponds and i have seen it grab a frog from time to tilke and fly off with it but never managed to photograph that particular situation, however, just a few days ago I did photograph a heron with one of our fish and took a sequence of close ups as it juggled the fish before it was swallowed. I too bought a Z180-600 just a few weeks ago. I had a Z 100-400 which had served me well for the past two years but I was frustrated by the lack of reach needed for locations such as Pulborough Brooks. I tried a borrowed 180-600 and carried out back to back tests against the 100-400 with the 1.4xTC and, despite not being an S-Line lens, the 180-600 was noticeably better than the 100-400 set-up so I had to do it. I think this is possibly the best performing and value for money lens in Nikon's whole Z range.

I must admit having used the 180-600 over a couple of weeks I think it’s a tremendous lens and at the price point is sure to become a huge asset to many people. Its versatility, focus speed and sharpness make it a fantastic tool.

Best wishes to you, Pops. I'm in a similar situation. I went in for a follow up appointment a year after kidney stones and the doctor found cancer. I'm having my left kidney removed April 2nd. I never had any symptoms.
