Probably you knew you had something good to say that you wanted us to listen . Maybe most UA-camrs know there's nothing worth listening in videos anyway😂
I have two "pencil shaped" skirts which are in stretchy fabric (one knitted, one jersey). Not as classy as the original but they do give a bit of both; the shape, but not the problem.
I like that your videos are precise and informative, with no rambling! Many youtubers spend the first 4 minutes speaking without purpose. Your videos are structured like a french essay ;) !
Yes, but I also hate that I (technically) can't wear a skirt to work. It's like pants, mini-skirt, or bust. I find this interesting because I wear skirts all the time as a 5'0 super-skinny pear. I tend to like the mermaid skirts with the high waist that flare mid to low thigh but land at the knee. I just think (for my body type) a super-snatched waist and above the knee is all (I) really have to abide by.
I wish that mini trend would finally end. In stores almost all skirts and dresses are mini, but rest are maxi. Almost nothing in middle around knee length. If there are knee length then for some reason they are much more expensive and mostly meant for older woman. Here on streets I see most woman and girls wearing knee length, but mini are left only for few rare exception events. Why popular designers don't care about what most woman are looking for. I guess woman need to start sew them self to get some skirt and dress in length they need. At least if skirts would be longer, then its simple to shorten them to mini, but can't make from mini midi. Same goes with skinny jean trend, they are everywhere. When some brand release their new jean styles and say there is choice I laugh, because they all are same, they all are skinny :) My rant is over. Thank you for video!
I'm friends with DIY and sometimes I don't mind to sew something :) I prefer to purchase already made clothing, because then I can try it on and see do I want that final result. When sewing can't always predict how it will look when done. But I wonder why shops are full with mini if in streets, jobs, schools, party I see almost everyone wearing midi, sometimes maxi. Mini I see so rarely.
I am going to school to become a teacher and I love wearing skirts but obviously can't wear a mini skirt to school! So I love the knee length high waisted skirts which are impossible to find in stores! So I shop at resale stores because I can find a lot of high waisted things (since it was such a trend in the 70s and lots of high waisted pants in the 80s and 90s) and then I hem my own skirts since I am petite! :) Just a thought! Another bonus is that you will never run in to another girl wearing the same outfit as you ;)
I love skirts that are about half down the tighs or a little longer than that, but most skirts I find are definetely shorter than that... I like skinny jeans though, so personally I can't complain
hey i just wanna say that not only are your videos well written and informative, but i appreciate how you talk about "dressing for your body shape" in a way that's totally non-judgemental and open!!! keep up the great work ☺
Merci Justine, you are an amazing communicator and so knowledgeable. I learn so much from your videos, you have such a great way of getting information across in a very clear, precise and informative way. Bxx
As a petite woman who has broad shoulders and a tummy, it will have to be the high-waisted semi-circle skirts with a yoke as a waistband... and always ending above the knee. Those are the best! Thanks for your lovely videos, Justine!
I'm super petite (4 foot 9) and I've found the best style for me is a low cut or bardot style top paired with a circle skirt that hits just about on or above my waist that goes to about mid calf. Very flattering on me. Either that or a loose blouse and a pencil skirt
Love your videos! Even though I'm short (5'), I prefer maxi skirts because I like hiding myself, and I love feeling them swirling around my legs. Plus I never have to worry about accidentally showing the world my undies lol
I was pregnant in 1969--70. "Tent" dresses were the rage so I was lucky because I was able to buy fashionable ones that weren't specifically maternity. In fact, I had a couple from before.
I love how straight-forward and informative you are. You've taken the mystery out of learning how to find one's personal style and what to look for to accentuate our own assets and minimize our flaws. It's very freeing. Thanks.
Hi Justine. Thank you for this topic. I wish to focus on the word: silhouette. As the drawings are done face on, it sadly does not capture the body shape that has a "belly projection". I suffer from this. Normally I live in trousers, and recently I found it very useful that side seam zipper trouser choices with Lycra material are available. This resolves the "pregnant appearance" somewhat. But when it comes to skirts, apart from holding breath in, (trust me it does not last very long!!!!) and undoing the zippers whilst driving and making 4 -5 times mistake of getting out of the car, having forgotten that the zipper is undone (widely embarrassing for me and shocking to many other spectators), I wonder if you could capture body shape and skirt choice from a side on drawing perspective as well. Many thanks. Bahar (sweet tooth is my middle name!)
ZBE my figure is like what you describe. Hourglass from the front, a little startling in silhouette. I do well with a high waisted A-line skirt or empire waisted a-line dress. Pencil skirts are a disaster, no redemption for them. Maxi skirts really depend on the cut and material- flowy works, especially with a high waist and a snug top, but a clingy, jersey knit is (for me) only OK as pajamas, when no one is around! Good luck!
Oh wow, same here! I look 'normal' from the front but I hate looking at my side profile in the mirror! If I could selectively eliminate the pudge on my stomach area, I would feel much more confident in crop tops, etc. There's always a trade off I suppose. Was a skinny girl once upon a time. Didn't have much going on in the chest area in high school. Now I'm an adult and that's changed, but I want my flat tummy back 😂
I'm a pear with a bit of a belly lol. Cannot wear pencil skirts. Try a-line skirts :) one that fits well will glide over your hips and hide your tummy. Pleats or skirts with a pattern help. Good luck!
I think you are doing it right already... Your waist and your legs seem to be your favorite parts and you are showing them, so I wouldn't change anything :-)
You are so fun to watch! My favorite skirts are mini skirts or floor length skirts and anything with a high waist. I am a petite rectangle so the mini skirts are great for making me look taller but the maxi skirts are great for comfort and evening summer dates for a flowy and feminine look. Always high waisted for me. It is classic and comfortable and makes me look like I have a narrower waist.
I adore your videos. You talk about clothes and body types in such a not-superficial/idiotic/bimbo/peroxyided/materialistic ways that I can actually learn about clothing without the anxiety to fit clothes that only make my unconfortable. I have quite a nice body shape but I don't fit standard sizes in my country ( very big boobs for a rather normal chest, tiny waist and slim long legs but with annoying "love handles"), so every now and then I saw my own dresses or modify the pieces I buy. I'm an economist which means I really know little about fabrics, measurements, etc. Thank god I found you! I would like you tu know how much of a relief you've been to me. So far I've donated clothes that just wouldn't work for me and when I go shopping at least I have a clue what I'm looking for and what's a waste of money. THAN YOU!!!
Justine you are a gem. I have been sewing for others since I was 20 I'm now 57 and sew for myself. I found it easy when it was for someone else but now you are my mentor for me. Thank you so much.
Skirts were not really my thing because i thought they didn't suit me. But now i undstand why. Btw what height would u be considered tall and what height is petite?
Thank you Justine! I hadn't realized that maxi skirts and floor length skirts were all circle skirts. I'm learning to pattern, so that's good to know! If you haven't before, would you do a video on how height affects print proportion in regards to style types, such as dramatic, town & country, etc.? The small crash course I had in it was informative but not relevant to today as far as fashion and style go. Thank you!
I have found a local business that keeps my measurements on file, and makes my skirts to order. Expensive, but worth every penny! Depending on the fabric, I can select a "pencil" skirt (really closer to an A-line) or a "swing" skirt. I wear the pencil skirts just above the knee, and the swing skirts at mid-knee. I am an average height, somewhat over weight woman with nice legs. Skirts are so much more flattering and comfortable to me than pants! I am still wearing skirts that I've owned for 20 years.
Hi, Justine! I hope you are having a good week. A few questions: 1. Why are there so many gathered skirts that call themselves A-lines? 2. Can maxi skirts be worn to work? They seem to be either very casual or very dressy and nowhere in between. 3. How can skirts be tailored to look better? Thank you.
This is the best suggested video I've had in my feed yet! As an apple shaped person I never knew what kind of skirt to choose and I just don't feel pretty in them so I avoided them. It never occurred to me to look at high waisted skirts! I think a shopping trip is in my future :) Thank you :)
I've recently discovered the wonders of 1950s swing dresses on my tall, somewhat overweight pear-shape. They look wonderful! And are consistent with these recommendations
Thank you!!! I learn so much from you, especially now that my age, body, and taste is changing! You're my go to for advice! I'm so happy I found your channel.
Hi Justine, Regarding circular skirts, you can find double (triple, quadruple, ... )circular skirts, full circular skirts, 3/4 Circular skirt, half circular skirts Your green yoke skirt is a "half" circle skirt. And regarding length there's a skirt length that goes mid-way between the knee and ankle I'm used to called it "Chanel" length. Love your videos, great content, you are so smart !!!!
For girls who are semi-tall and muscular: I love high rise maxi or high rise floor length. I am 5'8, with a larg bust and thick legs. My waist is a feature I try to emphasise. The high rise compliments the narrowest part of my body while the long fabric hides my thick legs. Awesome video!
Please do a series about the major fashion houses. A little about their history, who made them famous, what are they known for, who is their audience, how do they impact the mass market, who is the creative genius at the helm now. I would love to know more about the industry and you give such wonderful overviews and such an honest appraisal. I would love to hear your perspective!
@@allyrome7147 on another youtube video, another stylist said skirts for hourglass need to be just below knee or ankle length and balance fullness. If it is slim on bottom, it needs to be slim on top. If it is fuller on bottom, fuller on top. Hope that helps.
Peplums are helpful for those of us with inverted-V shapes, and I think that "rectangle"-shaped ladies would probably do well with them, too. I love your videos.
Someone recommended your channel in their comment and I am so glad they did! You make fashion so easy and simple to understand. Thank you for sharing! I will now watch the rest of your videos
I'm slim, but very conscious about the size of my hips, thighs, and legs. I've always perceived them as a bit "chubbier" than the rest of my body, that is way I always pick a-line tea-length midi dresses and skirts in order to camouflage most of my insecurities lol I would never dream of wearing a tighter outfit on the lower part.
i have thick thighs and my mom always told me to not wear flares or floor length since it would make my bottom part looks "bigger". Thanks to this video I think I can summon up my courage to buy more skirts that I actually prefer too (I kinda like flares!) Thank you so much!
That is the length I like but it's very hard to find anywhere. Skirts seem to be super short or floor length now. I'd like to see women's 50's style come back, it was classic.
I am by no means an expert, but I am some what knowledgeable on vintage fashion and sewing. A mid-calf skirt, also known as a "midi skirt" or "tea length," falls any where between an inch or two about the ankle and below the knee. Any shorter and it becomes knee-length, any longer and it becomes a maxi-skirt. Midi skirts are usually very full and are cut as either semi-circle or full-circle. The classic skirts of the 1950's were basically all midi, full-circle skirts. They look best when the sit at the natural waist, and make your waist look small, but the fullness may deter some people as it can accentuate large hips. Many midi skirts, especially those in a vintage style, are meant to be worn with a crinoline or tulle underneath to fill out the skirt, and give it that classic, vintage "poof." However, sometimes midi skirts are cut like pencil skirts, that is, they are essentially elongated pencil skirts. These are known as "wiggle dresses" or "wiggle skirts." For more ideas, I recommend visiting A Vintage Vanity or Cherry Dollface and watching their sewing/vintage fashion videos for more info on midi skirts. Hope this helped! :)
Everything Casey Jones said, with the added point that mid-calf skirts cut your visual leg-line so they will make you look shorter. Works on people who are very tall, otherwise could be pulled off with very high heels, but petite people might want to avoid altogether.
Thank you so much for this! I struggle at the shopping center because I have no idea about how to correctly shop for clothes. You've just become the life saver of a girl who struggles with self image and pretty clothes. God bless you!
Thank you so very much Justine. I've just found your channel and have been binge watching since 4:00 am. Please continue to educate me, greatly appreciated. Be well-
Wow! Bravo! Thank you again for clearing that up. I go through my closet every time you teach me something new and see what you are teaching. You are absolutely amazing and beautiful. Thank you for being you. No one does it like you. You need your own show! Amazing!
Hi Justine! Please do a video comparing various materials used to make handbags, based on their durability, effects on the environment and how to care for them maybe?
Justine I am 5' 3" in height. Petite size 8 or 10 or 12 some times depending on different designers sizes . Mostly small or medium.I have a hour glass figure. But with a belly which I hide most of the time. Not so very curvy like Kim Kadasian . Since I am short tends to look fat. One thing that I can't seem to do is wear anything with a waist .specially dresses. Or belts. (Unless with jeans)They just don't stay in place. It pushes up. If I am wearing spanxs it's even worse. I feel so frustrated. Shift dresses, dresses without waist sits nicely. There must be so many woman with issues like this. Please address on your future videos issues that woman with belly ,short fat woman Have. Specially woman who have had kids with not very young bodies, who are waiting to hide so many flaws.love all your videos. Would appreciate you doing a few videos for mature woman.
Michelle Ranamukage I have a pear figure at the moment, also very short and I have a very defined waist to hip ratio (6.8 eeek) And what I found works the best is to get a skirt that is not a stretchy material, and has shorts built in. But keep in mind it has to fit your body exactly, so a tailor might be ideal. I have a skirt like this that I bought from china and luckily it fit me perfectly. And it's a mini skirt with ruffles.
Same here 5'3" with a tummy and not excessive curves. I've always had trouble finding flattering looking and sitting dresses and skirts. A line sort of does work best and NO belts. And I'm exactly between petite and standard sizing. 😕
Thank you! I often think discourse around body shapes ignores non-apples with big bellies! It feels like if we have them we should not bother thinking about how to dress nicely. I am an hourglass with a big belly, morphing into apple shape as I age, but not quite there yet.
Michelle Ranamukage Some of, okay many of the prettiest dresses I have seen are in clothing shops for larger size women even short ladies. Find small stores that carry clothes from unknown but brilliant designers in your area. They are budget friendly. I love feminine dresses like these stores carry, but I'm tall and thin and they don't carry them in my size so I made my own. Wish you and the ladies that replied to you the best success in finding the perfect clothes.
I took pattern making as a hobby and ended up with a Italian bespoke tailor's license. My only problem is I never took any fashion design. I did do character design in animation before, so I am not totally lost. I can at least be creative and draw anything. Knowing the rules of fashion though would make both those skills even stronger. So thanks for the great videos!
I'm a hourglass petite and I LOVE pencil skirts but sometimes (more often than not) I go for A-line skirts just because they're more comfy and give me more flow which is really welcome when you live on a country with a hot and humid climate like I do! :) (I don't really mind looking shorter lol)
I'm a rectangle and I love high rise circle skirts, they fall so nicely and gives an illusion of a waist. But I'm pretty tall so most I've found are mini-length on me, where I'd actually prefer just above the knee. So I just make my own. Love these videos! :D
I have learnt so much from this video, yet again. It took me years to find the skirt type that looks best on me and that is a long stretchy mermaid. It creates the swirl I love without width at the hip. I have many black versions and wear jewel coloured tops with them.
Thanks Justine! What do you think about maxi skirts/dresses on petite thin girls? I haven't tried one because I guess it would look huge on me (if I could find one that doesn't rub the floor lol)... But then you mentioned J-Lo... So I'm not sure anymore! I think they look extraordinary on tall girls :) I wish I could wear one
I think a maxi dress with less "flowy" (like a jersey one, which then can stretch when you walk) can look fabulous also on petite ladies! Also, I'd go for solid colors rather than patterns - just a feeling but it is a matter of personal taste, I believe.
Kim Brasseur I am both petite and thin as well, and all of my most flattering skirts are maxi to floor length :) I've found they actually elongate my my silhouette when the skirt is in a slimmer cut and a movement-friendly fabric. The stretchy jersey Justine mentioned works well, as do wrap skirts. And you may find that what's intended as an ankle length skirt on an average height person gives you the right length if you're willing to wear a little heel (so the skirt ends up being floor-length on you).
I like the end slide Justine! I mean the background with manequin, looks really nice. Also, hi to all pear shaped ladies :) I have wide hips and for me, so called "skater dresses" actually work (i pull them up so it starts at natural waist level). i sometimes also put a boxy long shirt over them, put a wide belt on my waist, and tuck out the shirt a little bit. I hope i explained ok to understand me :) anyway it always creates interesting look, helps me hide some areas and actually i always get compliments whenever i put this type of outfit
I'm a pear shape, petite lady and overweight. I'm always struggling to find a skirt that makes me comfortable, because of my belly and my butt lifts the skirt. What should I do?
VicVaporub Skorts. Im not overweight but Im a pear with a ridiculously small waist and a big butt. All my skirts ride all the way up, so I found non-stretchy skorts that fit my body shape work. But it may be hard finding some that do fit your body measurements perfectly. Since they arent stretchy they have to fit you like a glove.
I'm late, don't know if the info is still needed - absolutely yes to skater-style skirts, but pay attention to the fabric. Softer, flowier materials will make the area look narrower since they won't add bulk, but they will also highlight every curve, so this may acentuate the shape of your belly or butt. Stiffer fabrics that will hold their shape will prevent the actual curves of your belly or butt from being visible, but they will add bulk because the fabric will stick out some from your body. Try on a bunch of skirts in different fabrics until you find a compromise between bulk and body visibility you're happy with, and then make a note of the fabric used in the skirt so you can search for it later. You should also look for it to sit at your natural waist so it won't cut across your belly. And most importantly, you need to pay close attention to the length. Ideally for your situation, you'd want a skirt that hits JUST above the very bottom of your knee-cap. Even just a slight peek of the knee is enough to keep the legs from looking cut-off, so it won't make you look shorter. And hopefully it will also give you enough length so that when you move or sit, the skirt doesn't ride up too high. Also, if you are comfortable with the actual shape of your body being somewhat visible, pencil-style skirts are actually a GREAT option for pear shapes. Keeping the cut of the clothing close to the body creates a slimming effect because it adds very little bulk - the added bonus is that you can get away with wearing a stiffer fabric in this cut without making yourself look heavier because the cut itself isn't adding any width. So that would potentially be the best of both worlds - a slim-cut style that doesn't add width to your butt or hips, made in a stiffer fabric that glides over your belly instead of clinging to it, for example jacquard.
I don't know why she didn't mention it, but maybe it's because midi length is not the most flattering length for most women. It makes your legs appear wider than they are because you're hitting them at their widest part below the knee. Your brain will automatically continue that smaller to wider shape and assume some very thick legs. Most people don't want that. It can also make your legs appear even shorter, as can a pencil skirt below the knee.
Hello, I'm a new subscriber and wanted to compliment your videos both for dressing to your body type and making those tips work on a fuller figure. You give the informtion factually and without judgement. They have been a pleasure to watch. I'm lucky enough to have access to a tailor where I'm living right now and she has made me some lovely dresses following your guidance. I look forward to more tips in the future :)
I love your videos. Skirts/dresses are so intimidating for me. I'm petite (5'0), hourglass, but my legs are long compared to my torso. I have a hard time finding the right balance of length, without too much fullness.
Awesome video, haven't seen anyone else covering this topic. I didn't realize how badly I wanted to know this until I read the title! Thank you so much for your contribution to our wardrobes!
Thank you, Justine. What about midi-skirts? I think those are perfect if you don't want to show a lot from your legs but you also don't want to wear a "hippy"-ish maxi skirt. Midi skirts are more elegant than most of the maxi skirts.
I'm a petite pear with short legs and I always thought skirts are just not the right thing for me. Now I know what I could try! Thank you, that was really helpful :)
i adore your channel , i'm from egypt the majority of girls here wear maxi skirts, but i don't know how to style it and chose the best cut for me my body is hourglass and i'm tall
i love high waisted a line skirts! always get so many compliments on my outfit when I wear them and I think its has to do with how they flatter my shape. love these videos! :)
Thank you so much. its fascinating. I am short. I have a nice tiny waist but i have very full thighs. I wear an A line skirt to emphasize the waist, but the nice flare allows me to be covered and not draw attention to the thighs. They are hiding in the fold and pleats or whatever the term is, of the skirt. I also have some semi circle (?) that i love for the freedom of movement and comfort. I have to have at least knee length because i have a full bottom and need to have the fabric in the back to cover it and still go down to the knees. i used to not wear dresses because i wasn't getting the right ones for my body type. Once i found some that fit and didn't cling to the places i don't like on my body, i started to really like dresses, especially in the summer when it is so hot. Loved the video!
My favorite kind of skirt is one that hits at the natural waist and is 360 degrees full and within an inch or two on either side of the knee - like Audrey Hepburn's skirt in Roman Holiday, or like an ice skater skirt, but longer. Skirt tip - if you have a tiny waist but large hips and you have a skirt that is comfortable once it's on but is just a bit hard to get into, put both your feet into the skirt and then cross them. It narrows the hips just a little and gives you more wiggle room to get it past the wider part of you. I learned this while working on the costume crew for a dance show where the girls wore these very tight, structured marshmallow skirts (it was a hot chocolate dance) and even though they were skinny dancers, the fabric was so rigid, they couldn't get the marshmallows on unless they stood with their legs crossed.
Dear Justine, you are pure gold. Your videos are truly a blessing among emptyshowingoff chanels. I wish you will stay such an authentic content treasure. Thank you for sharing.
Justine, thank you! I scout thrift stores for 1970s skirts, as they have a nice waist and some flair at the hem, which is great for me -- a true pear shape. While I know that I (as a shorty at 5'2"), I should avoid skirts that fall below the knee, but I really hate it when knee length straight skirts ride up when I walk or sit.

I just realised that I like your video the most because it had no background music. It helps me concentrate on what you're saying. Thank you.
Probably you knew you had something good to say that you wanted us to listen . Maybe most UA-camrs know there's nothing worth listening in videos anyway😂
i was wondering y i wasnt pissed off lol
"Not great to run after the bus. It's a lifestyle choice guys"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
+Sara Benedet seen in several capital cities, true story 😉
Hahaha. It's why I don't wear pencil skirts. So accurate! I was very happy when a-line skirts got popular instead.
I have two "pencil shaped" skirts which are in stretchy fabric (one knitted, one jersey). Not as classy as the original but they do give a bit of both; the shape, but not the problem.
Also, it's a pain in the ass to go up stairs hahaha! :D
I read this comment right as she said it in the video lmao
This girl is the Wayne goss of fashion
+Maria Karageorge I take that as a huge compliment!
Maria Karageorge I also like Wayne Goss. Two of them are my favorite
Maria Karageorge Both very intelligent and classy people

hahaha funny you say that, I actually love dissertations and structured discussions ;-D
I can tell haha
Justine... so easy to watch, no crappy background music, gets straight to the point, and has visuals to help so it’s not just words
"shorter women who feel they are already not taken seriously" GIRL yes. I hate being patronized for my height
So true, 4'11 girl here
Yes, but I also hate that I (technically) can't wear a skirt to work.
Yes I am 4'10 and I haven't worn skirts in years purely because people think I am younger wearing them.

Ilze L Well, skirts are ridiculously easy to sew...no complicated patterns, easy to fit, don't need much fabric...why not give it a try?
I'm friends with DIY and sometimes I don't mind to sew something :) I prefer to purchase already made clothing, because then I can try it on and see do I want that final result. Mini skirts will never die, 60's fashion forever.
Bxx
thank you, thank you!!!
my favorite is the pencil but...only with heels. Idea for a new video, what shoes/boots to pair with what skirts? ;-)
This video is to get you summer-ready ;-) Which shape of skirt is your favorite?
As a petite woman who has broad shoulders and a tummy, it will have to be the high-waisted semi-circle skirts with a yoke as a waistband... and always ending above the knee. Those are the best! Thanks for your lovely videos, Justine!
Denim pencil skirts are my favourite. I get to show off my waist and hips, it doesn't get blown up in the wind, and the denim keeps the look casual.
I'm super petite (4 foot 9) and I've found the best style for me is a low cut or bardot style top paired with a circle skirt that hits just about on or above my waist that goes to about mid calf. Very flattering on me. Either that or a loose blouse and a pencil skirt
I repurpose ALL my old jeans into denim pencil skirts!
Love your videos! Even though I'm short (5'), I prefer maxi skirts because I like hiding myself, and I love feeling them swirling around my legs. Plus I never have to worry about accidentally showing the world my undies lol
I finally understand where I've been going wrong! Thank you so much, Justine! You're a gift on UA-cam :)
glad it helped! Thanks!
Please do a fashion tips on pregnant women.
Fashion industry almost forgot this. Pregnancy must be a part of women's fashion...
Thanks.
All I care about is whether a skirt has pockets!
Liz Claiborne put pockets in all her clothes. When she died, the trend died with her. Women need pockets!
When I find a great dress or skirt with pockets, I automatically buy it
Now u talking
And yet the skirts with pockets are so
hard to find!
my school uniform's skirt has pocket and I'm
✨ _blessed_ ✨
Justine is easily the best, most realistic, most women-friendly fashion commentator on UA-cam.
Now I'm an adult and that's changed, but I want my flat tummy back 😂
ZBE I have the same problem. Avoid anything that is gathered at the waist. Pleated skirts are good only if they are stitched down at the waist.
I'm a pear with a bit of a belly lol. Cannot wear pencil skirts. Try a-line skirts :) one that fits well will glide over your hips and hide your tummy. Pleats or skirts with a pattern help. Good luck!
Side zippers and a flat waist band are so flattering. The gap made trousers like that 20 years ago a d then stopped. I wish they would return!
Flowy skirts are so nice, they make me feel confident for some reason as well :)
Thanks for the detailed videos , you are awesome at it.more power to you.
😘
THAN YOU!!!
+farolitodepapel thanks for taking the time & for the great feedback you wrote 💛
Your videos are so engaging and straightforward. What I enjoy the most though are you little laughs. So cute!
I discovered your channel just this Friday and cannot believe how much I missed. But I absolutely love your channel! xoxo
good, thanks to UA-cam for recommending my channel to you!! ;-)
Yes! Thank you, UA-cam :)
WickedStarfish I feel the same way, two months later! Haha
Justine you are a gem. I have been sewing for others since I was 20 I'm now 57 and sew for myself. I found it easy when it was for someone else but now you are my mentor for me. Thank you so much.
Skirts were not really my thing because i thought they didn't suit me. But now i undstand why. Btw what height would u be considered tall and what height is petite?
under 5ft4 (162cm) is petite, officially. And tall starts at 5ft8. I am 5ft11, for example.
i'm sure that's just a guide though? i'm 5'6.5 -but my legs are shorter and my torso longer. so some stores, i have to wear petite pants.
TheLaydewlf I have the opposite problem I am 5'7 but my legs are long while my torso is extremely short
Justine Leconte officiel OMG, 162? I'm 148 cm tall! I must be child sized 😭
Justine Leconte officiel wow thats tall!
THANK YOU for being one of the first people giving fashion advise who acknowledge that being tall/petite or plus sized is not, in itself, a shape
I love your way. I am always in a good mood after watching your video. Keep them coming please
ok ok :-D
Thank you. It took me a month to find the body type skirt fit info you posted. Thank you!
not a skirt, it is a belt lol
+fangz da hehehe 😁
Fangz Sage funny
After that line, I paused the video so that I could laugh and not miss a detail on the video... Also, to find this comment. 😂
I love your witty comments! You just tell it like it is!
I like her. Her smile is so cute!
Hi, Justine! I hope you are having a good week. A few questions:
1. Why are there so many gathered skirts that call themselves A-lines?
2. Can maxi skirts be worn to work? They seem to be either very casual or very dressy and nowhere in between.
3. How can skirts be tailored to look better?
Thank you.
Can you maybe do something on pinafore-dresses, dungarees, overalls and the like?
This is the best suggested video I've had in my feed yet! As an apple shaped person I never knew what kind of skirt to choose and I just don't feel pretty in them so I avoided them. It never occurred to me to look at high waisted skirts! I think a shopping trip is in my future :) Thank you :)
+Darcia I am glad it helped! 😃
Another great video Justine! I love how you explain everything and your drawing was a great idea!
+Gabrielle Maroon thanks a lot 😘
+Gabrielle Maroon great! 🤗😊
Hi Justine,
Regarding circular skirts, you can find double (triple, quadruple, ... )circular skirts, full circular skirts, 3/4 Circular skirt, half circular skirts
Your green yoke skirt is a "half" circle skirt.
And regarding length there's a skirt length that goes mid-way between the knee and ankle I'm used to called it "Chanel" length.
Love your videos, great content, you are so smart !!!!
+gabrielahdez it is called mid-calf - I mentioned it but didn't draw it
this vido was helpful . can you plz make a video on outfits for short girls
I did a video on dressing for petite body types, have you seen it?
Justine Leconte officiel thankyou im going to watch it😘😍😍😘😘😘
yes that would be great ^-^
When she cutely said "Hey, everyone, it's Justine" and smiled, I just know I gotta subscribe her.
finally!!! thank you very much Justine!!! you have helped me a lot understanding how to get derssed!! because i am a petite apple!! Big problem:-P
you'll be fine! I am glad my videos are helpful! :-)
Justine is simply the best on personal style on UA-cam. Love that she speaks so naturally with ease too. Thank you!
Nice video! Keep it up!
+Katherine Baker thanks!
would love to see a video on what tops to wear with skirt types and material
How is it that you are so brainy, thoughtful and discerning ! Thank you so much! Yes a petitite lady am I and fell for you by 2.44!
Very clear descriptions! Thank you Justine!
+Becky Underwood 🤗😘
Please do a series about the major fashion houses. A little about their history, who made them famous, what are they known for, who is their audience, how do they impact the mass market, who is the creative genius at the helm now. I would love to know more about the industry and you give such wonderful overviews and such an honest appraisal. I would love to hear your perspective!
I'm 5'3" with an hour glass figure and a short waist. I'm stumped at what my best skirt length and fullness would be.
Same but I’m 5’4” I’m also waiting for an answer
@@allyrome7147 on another youtube video, another stylist said skirts for hourglass need to be just below knee or ankle length and balance fullness. If it is slim on bottom, it needs to be slim on top. If it is fuller on bottom, fuller on top. Hope that helps.
Peplums are helpful for those of us with inverted-V shapes, and I think that "rectangle"-shaped ladies would probably do well with them, too. I love your videos.
+Tina06019 that's right! And peg skirts have a similar effect.
Someone recommended your channel in their comment and I am so glad they did! You make fashion so easy and simple to understand. Thank you for sharing! I will now watch the rest of your videos
+yumoja oh I should thank that person!!! 😘
I found this very helpful. As a larger lady I have been avoiding skirts & dresses in the past. Not now.
I'm a bit confused at this point... What about the mid-calf length?
Blue Owl Look at midi skirts or get regular skirts in the long size.
Thank you so much for this! I struggle at the shopping center because I have no idea about how to correctly shop for clothes. You've just become the life saver of a girl who struggles with self image and pretty clothes. God bless you!
thanks so much for the tips, you are soo wonderful!!
Thank you so very much Justine. I've just found your channel and have been binge watching since 4:00 am. Please continue to educate me, greatly appreciated. Be well-
don't forget to sleep... But thank you!
Thank you for this video! I'm apple shaped, and I have a really hard time finding skirts that don't make me feel like a potato
Wow! Bravo! Thank you again for clearing that up. I go through my closet every time you teach me something new and see what you are teaching. You are absolutely amazing and beautiful. Thank you for being you. No one does it like you. You need your own show! Amazing!
+Athena Vegan thank you, thank you 😅
From this I've identified A line skirts would work best for me :)
good 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼
Emmy M A lines and bias cut skirts are so flattering!
Why not get a piece of clothing tailored to fit you? If you can’t find anything that fits then this seems to be the most practical
solution
Great video Justine!
I'm a hourglass petite and I LOVE pencil skirts but sometimes (more often than not) I go for A-line skirts just because they're more comfy and give me more flow which is really welcome when you live on a country with a hot and humid climate like I do! :) (I don't really mind looking shorter lol)
I enjoyed your video :)
I'm a rectangle and I love high rise circle skirts, they fall so nicely and gives an illusion of a waist. But I'm pretty tall so most I've found are mini-length on me, where I'd actually prefer just above the knee. So I just make my own. Love these videos! :D
ur videos r super informative......lots of love
Thank you so much!

THANK YOU. MAY GOD BLESS YOU.
OMG. You just understand petite women, skirts, and professional issues. Hahaha. Thank you!!
Justin, why you haven't mentioned midi length skirt?
I don't know why she didn't mention it, but maybe it's because midi length is not the most flattering length for most women.
It makes your legs appear wider than they are because you're hitting them at their widest part below the knee. Your brain will automatically continue that smaller to wider shape and assume some very thick legs. Most people don't want that.
It can also make your legs appear even shorter, as can a pencil skirt below the knee.
Weltraumfee Just below the knee can be very flattering imo.
Think this depends on how tall you are. I’m short so would avoid this altogether unless I wore heels. It would be lovely on a tall person though.
+E Jones thank you so much! And yes, tailored clothes always work best 😊
Great video thx - love your accent too 👌🏼
hahaha 😅
The Style Insider hi
kahini's diy and fashion corner 👍🏻
I applaud all your uploads, Justine. Thank you! Mairi x
thank you!
oh for petes sake now I get it thanks
"not great for running after the bus, it's a lifestyle choice" ... excellent video, informative interesting and engaging, love you
+Moumita Dey hehehe 😉
Perfectly explained necessities of skirt fitting😎
I'm a petite pear with short legs and I always thought skirts are just not the right thing for me. Now I know what I could try! Thank you, that was really helpful :)
i adore your channel , i'm from egypt the majority of girls here wear maxi skirts, but i don't know how to style it and chose the best cut for me my body is hourglass and i'm tall
i love high waisted a line skirts! always get so many compliments on my outfit when I wear them and I think its has to do with how they flatter my shape. love these videos! :)
The soft pink lipstick is very flattering on her
Always an easy explanation with good taste
thanks justine, this will help very much.you must have been a great student at designer school.love your way of teaching.
+Violet Hunter hehehe thank you 😁😉
Thank you so much. its fascinating.
Thank you Justine! I am a plus size and I found your skirt video very helpful and not judgmental.
As a Hard of Hearing person I just wanted to say thank you for captioning your videos
Kate Parker That is a great tip! Thank you.
Dear Justine, you are pure gold. Your videos are truly a blessing among emptyshowingoff chanels. I wish you will stay such an authentic content treasure. Thank you for sharing.
thank you!
+lightly lumay it won't ride up if it is fused (reinforced) inside or if it is a heavy fabric 😊
