I am 150 too but I have a problem! I have wide hips flat curves and very short torso so it makes my middle section looks so weird and it's hard to find something that flatters my body frame and shape! My mid section looks like a big square and my legs are so skinny my shoulders are small too! It's the weirdest shape I've ever seen! Thanks genetics ugh!! I wonder if there is anyone else with such a problem?? It makes me feel so insecure! If only my butt was perky I was gonna look okay but it's wide and flat looks gross lol

@@ForeverIloveyou2013 We are our own worst critics when it comes to our bodies. Perhaps you could ask someone whose style sense you trust to tell you what your best features are and how you could accentuate them. You don't like your lower half but your upper body might be your best part. Nobody has NOTHING to work with. Being petite just means having to dress very deliberately every day to get our proportions right. Use suitable makeup, delicate jewellery and dainty accessories to complete your look. Do your hair every day to complement your outfit. I'm 4'11" and this is the strategy I use. I hope this helps.

@@ForeverIloveyou2013 I bet you are a pretty girl that looks better than you think. But I would not draw attention to my waist. No belts Do empire waistlines, as she stated. Wear skinny jeans with bigger tops. You might also try boot heel jeans since they balance out the hip area. You are just going to have to try on a lot of outfits to see what looks good on you and stick to the style that suits your body.

I like the fact that you're not making a huge deal of yourself like so many other youtubers do. You stick to the topic and present it in a professional and interesting way! I like your accent too, it brings nice variation to the very American youtube, but still your English is super good.
It would be nice to hear more about you though, which is why I'm so glad to hear you're giving us a "room tour". I really enjoy your videos and you seem like such a pleasant person, keep the good work up!

maija you are so on point with your comment! I live in North America but my heritage is mixed and European. I do speak more than one language and yes in Canada you can get Google in French etc. which is great, however. The internet is totally dominated by anglophone, especially North American anglophone culture. We are all guilty of this unconsciously; it is normal for us for people from Estonia e.g. to speak and post in English but how many of us make the effort to learn their language. In every language there is a whole new world to explore. That's why I like Justine Leconte's videos so very much; she brings that international presence into the internet forum which I think is sorely needed. She is also very positive with not a drop of excessive self-regard; a generous person enthusiastically sharing her expertise, convictions and ideas. Absolutely a breath of fresh air: I know I am echoing your post, but you said it really well. Tx!!!!

Thank you for this. I'm 5' tall and finding flattering clothes can be a real struggle. My mother always told me to match my hose and shoes to the colour of my hemline in order to give the illusion of height. She was always well-dressed and instinctively knew what worked for her. She also taught me how to shorten my trousers and skirts.

I am a petite woman in my 50's. I also have a large bust size (DD), so finding clothes in the petite section is usually impossible. (I guess petite woman are supposed to have a small bustline?) My secret to dressing well is knowing how to tailor clothes from the regular women's department. Many times it means I will shorten the sleeves (especially in short sleeve items) and hem the length. Also, I look for pieces that are on sale (clearance) that need more tailoring than I can do. That way the money I spend at the tailor's still makes the item affordable! Thank you Justine for your focus on us short girls!!

Discovered almost the same thing - only thing I disagree with (slightly) is skirt lengths: mid-calf to ankle also work reasonably well for me, as long as it is below the knee "enough" I find that it doesn't make me that much shorter than I am (152 cm).

Thank you so much for this video, Justine! I'm 159cm with an inverted triangle body type. I also have a longer torso with short legs, so I usually prefer to shift my waistline higher rather than lower. Most of things you advise for petite and inverted triangle body types are tricks I had to learn the hard way over the years, through trial and error, but it's very affirming and informative to hear you explain the reasons behind them. The only advice I can't follow is high heels, because my mom had to have bunion surgery and I'm trying to avoid the same fate, and small bags, I'd go crazy trying to get through my day with only what I can carry in a small bag. Dear Justine, thank you very much for this! I’m a Southeast Asian (Indonesian), and I’m petite even for my country’s standard. Usually fashion advice for petite women would recommend mid-thigh dresses/skirts and high heels, and nothing else. But the thing is, I wear modest clothing. For skirts/dresses, it usually means below knee or all the way down to the ankle. Your video helped expand my horizon and affirm that petite =/= immodest clothing. Thank you!

Nehad Salman Maybe you can find a corner at your workplace where you can store an "emergency outfit" or at least some shoes? Otherwise...get a big handbag and carry a pair of heels, maybe a fancy belt and some jewellery with you...also, practice creating easy yet elegant updoes with your hair (lots of tutorials on that) and find a lipstick you are comfortable wearing...putting your hair up and wearing lipstick can already dramatically change your look. Also...men are easily intimidated/taken aback by women who are too dressed up or wear too much make-up. Going all out, especially on a first date can even be counterproductive. So don't stress yourself too much about what you're wearing. Use that hour to take a walk or have a snack somewhere so you're relaxed and refreshed for your date. Much more important than colour coordinating your shoes and handbag.

I find a long, light weight scarf (my current favourite has paillettes), earrings and extra shoes helpful in that situation. If the evening outing is more casual, add a leather jacket to the above. Scarf goes around the neck w the jacket, or around the shoulders for a dressier night out. A pouchette inside your workbag can carry all but the shoes, and becomes your evening bag, once emptied. I agree about red lipstick!

You wish for us the delight you take, the pleasure you take in being a women and enjoying all that life has to offer. Hi Justine, I'm so happy for this video. I'm petite (1.53 and 46 kg) and I have never heard such a bright explanation of what a petite person is, and exactly as you said, the lengths, the sleeves everything is a problem, and the offer of petite sizes are very limited, thats why I have a very good taylor. Curiously I tent to do what you said, but by trial and error I guess, now I know why, it would be very easy now choose and buy better. So helpful! Congratulations!!!! As a petite woman with a short torso, if you're doing the hemming yourself, consider that your problem might be on the upper body. I wear mostly dresses so the first thing I usually do it "pinch" up the straps and see where the neckline/bust/waist hits - 9 times out of 10 it fixes the problem. Not saying this would be the same for you but if hemming isn't working for you, it would be worth at least a look.

These are all good, just one thing I'd like to add. My new found best friend: pointed toe shoes!!! I'm 5'2 1/2"(159cm) and have a long torso and shortish legs. Justine's advice on matching your bottom color or skin color with your shoes to add a lengthening effect is very good, and if you add those pointed toe shoes it's gonna make your legs so beautiful, long and slim.
It especially had a big effect on me because I have tiny size 5 (euro 35) feet and that one inch the pointed toe really visually makes my legs seem longer and making me look more elegant

Susan Holl For a casual look I often combine capri length pants with knee socks for that reason...but it's a different look, of course. Great with boots and sneakers, not so great with ballerinas and pumps and the like, in my opinion. Or just give the middle finger to current fashion and wear slacks or other widelegged trousers. For some reason they're easier to find in an adequate length. And they do look fabulous on us giraffes 😊.

That’s my problem, and I always go for a low-rise on skirts (I almost never wear trousers, but it would apply to those too). Mid-thigh miniskirts are great because they show off your assets (legs) and I tend to wear tops untucked and slightly longer than the waistband of my skirt to lengthen the torso. V-necks and scoop necks elongate the neck and above the bust, so they’re a must for me too. It’s taken me years to realise I can’t stray much beyond this pattern, much as I might like to sometimes. 😔 Oh, and pendant necklaces are great too!

Slight correction, 162cm is 5'3.5 and 163cm is officially 5'4. In the US anything under 5'4 by any measure is considered petite so that is why it's a big deal to not round half inches up to the higher one.

Kat Webb, Unfortunately, halters are rarely an option for those with larger busts because it's hard to find a supportive and comfortable bra that will work for halters. Even strapless often requires some compromise, so halters are usually straight out. This is a reason why you rarely see those with larger natural breasts wearing spaghetti-strap tops. You can't hide a bra under it, and braless will typically look frumpy.

    • @cadassalily

I would very much like to see a video done for this sort of body type! Clothing advice for petites and hourglasses tend to conflict seriously, especially if you happen to have more complications on top of that, like being plus-sized or close, like classy or conservative styles, and cannot wear or do not like heels.
A more pronounced bustline in particular can be very tricky on a petite lady because shorter frames usually also have narrower shoulders, which can make an already-large bust look ENORMOUS.
Justine, I am 5'0" (about 154cm), with differences of about 22cm between bust and underbust, about another 2cm between underbust and waist, and another 22 between waist and hips. At a smaller size my underbust-to-waist difference changes, but the others remain about the same. It's an extremely challenging body type to dress, so please assist!

I am just under 150cm (under 5') and I have so much trouble finding flattering clothes that fit well. I am getting older and trying to branch out beyond my typical 2 petite stores, so recently I asked a huge online forum of moms (not just petites) to recommend retailers specifically for women under 5' height. Several people recommended a store that I'd never tried and I ordered several items. Everything is multiple inches too long and looks very boxy and everything I ordered was the smallest size in petites. What a disappointing waste of time ordering and then having to return it all.
Your video was really helpful in understanding why my favorite outfits that I feel most confident in are longer tunics with leggings (I am slender pear shaped petite).

There is a lot of information out their on how to dress based on body type, height etc what would be interesting to learn is more on the topic of how to "cheat" or style things that are "not" ideal for your shape. For example as a petite pear shape lady I like skinny jeans, pencil skirts that are just below my knee and boots that are over the ankle. Learning how to "adapt" would be helpful to me and to others who may also love a particular style of clothing or footwear that technically isn't the best choice for them. Hope this makes sense and hope to see something like this in a future series 👍🏻
