This is such a great interview. The fact that Julian likes to talk, investigate and debate about what's happening in our society it's truly amazing and inspiring. You go dude!
Not only is he really late but this was all put on by rolling stone so I don’t think it’s so much that he’s interested in everyone of the topics they talked about I think it’s more like he does it for appearance purposes. These musicians and actors/ celebs want you to think they’re on your side but I don’t see any sort of change coming from that side of the spectrum.

@John D lots of his fans are conservative or just don't really like "woke liberals" and Julian would be classified as one by them, but he doesn't care.
So glad Julian is informed..when he's being interviewed about his music he's uncomfortable and shy...he is very comfortable here discussing things he's very passionate about...not that he's not passionate about his music...never seen him so relaxed..a lovely great interview
Julian sees music as a job. He sees political everything as his passion. Julian wishes too make an impact on the younger generation but he struggles with being an extrovert.
it rlly isnt a powerful question though. 90% of the people HAVE TO be politically conscious about the issues they face, since they have no other choice but to learn whats happening, why is it happening and affecting them etc. so... i dont see why it would be a powerful question.
10:13 "I wanna see people exhibit two things: a sense of self-reflection, and a compassion for others. That's the key." idk why but that's so profound to me :')
That was one of the most prosaic things he said in the interview lmao and that's the part you thought was "powerful" 🤣🤣🤣 "I never doubted that I would compromise my dignity by living on my knees instead of standing up for myself" is a bit better.
jules seems so much happier and.. well.. more alive than in the interviews where he is asked question. we can see he's really doing something he likes here, unlike the boring interviews where he's always asked the same questions. great video, really interesting!
This guy's awesome, I love Henry Giroux and have for years, definitely one of the world's most important intellectuals today. So cool to see Julian, whose work I have admired for years to be doing this interview. His lyrics always had me suspecting he had a mind wise beyond his years, an old soul...
Interesting conversation. I wish it was longer. I love how Jules is so fun and wild when he performs, but he is also this soft spoken gentleman. I have this fantasy in which I hang out with Jules, we party hard and we talk about human existence all at once. I know, I am so doomed!! Much respect Jules.
people always see julian as a guy who is always high or acting silly all the time. they don't think he's ever serious, but right here, in this very interview, we were able to see the julian we know. i absolutely love him. not just for his talent or his music, but for the person that he is. he's never afraid to speak his mind or be himself, despite of everything. that's, above all, inspiring to me. i wish him all the best ❤️ our jules
That reminds me, I'm gonna listen to Ize of the World now and absorb the beauty of that song! It is still, to this day, my favorite Strokes song and definitely the most underrated song out there
Very important conversations to have. I wish this was a series. Make it so. The juxtaposition of artist and “intellectual thinker” lends itself to the modern day generational divides. It’s important for our creative and academic minds to use their spotlight to highlight the often ignored sides of the human condition.
Most normal videos whereby Julian is being interviewed about his music is usually stilted and awkward. Its a breath of fresh air to see that he really does have passion and a personality and that he is much more interested in deeper topics. `
More of these kinds of informative talks on the status of democracy in current times by artists, influencers etc, keep the message alive, out in the open for all to see, hear and comment on, we cant sit back and let the corporate manipulators have their greedy way suppressing the people to cater to the 1%, Julz is a bright light in a dark greed driven society where democracy is becoming vague memory and not the norm of life that it must be. Beautiful interview.
The Modern Age section reminded me of Julian’s lyrics “The end of living and the beginning of surviving”, from one of the voidz songs, I forget which one though. But I’ll never forget those words.
I always thought that Juian Casablancas grew up a spoiled kid with everything handed to him but I forget that it's the inner self that matters in realizing what is truly going on in the world and in genuinely trying to resist a maladaptive way of life for oneself and for society.
Prof Giroux makes me think of my International Relations Professor in Florence, Prof. Bozzo. Analyzing facts, not taking any side, no prejudgments or bias whatsoever. This is how I formed my opinion on politics, policies and international relations.. ideas and dry analysis rather than affiliation to parties and lobbies. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for this ! I like Casablancas even more now that I know that we share the same political opinions. It was a very interesting video. He should interview Chomsky next ! Loved the quote of Camus at the end, one of my favorite writers.
Julian is one of the few true artists left in this day and age, if there were more singers like him instead of the moronic unimaginative mainstream artists of today who can't write a single intelligent lyric people's minds and music would be much better off.
More interviews by Julian! something about this really attached me to the interview, even though I am not deeply interested in politics (I'm am on 13 by the way xD), would love to see another one :).
It would be great if you put subtitles for Latin America, cause Henry G. is a thinker who transcends borders, and is very, very important for the educational professionals.
