I think one of my favourite things about your tutorials is that you often give alternate or equivalent paints when listing the colours you use. It really makes a difference knowing that you're not limited to one kind of paint if you want to achieve the same or similar results.

Couldn't agree more, I like all my paints to match so because I started with Citadel I only really buy their so all my paints look the same on my shelf. So having him list the Citadel closest equivalent means I can still reliably use his tutorials without having to compromise on shelf aesthetic.

Every white paint I've received from Games Workshop has come all clumped up and thick. Once way you can 'fix' this is by getting like a bottle of airbrush thinner. Put some in the pot and mix. if it's still too thick, add a little more. Keep doing so until its a consistency you'd like to work with. Obviously be careful of adding too much otherwise it might get too thin.

    Coating
Base colors (up to 2 layers)
color wash (basically extra diluted paint for shading)
-the deep black armor does not need it, but for other matte areas (such as the joints), a dark gray wash could help
Layering (using the base colors, clean up the color wash and add highlights)
Highlights (using a lighter version of the area ur highlighting, gently brush the edges. Up to 3 layers or more depending on the level of detail wanted, highlighting the highlight and so on)
-for the black armor, a blueish highlight may help making the deep obscure colors stand out
-detailing at some areas with a light gray
    Detailing (similar to edge highlighting)
-think of the material ur highlighting. Is it metal? Fabric?
-pay attention to the eyes or other light emitting areas

    Great tutorial, Duncster, as always!
One thing I have always had a lot of issue with that seems very silly but has cost me a few brushes already would be how you go about cleaning and generally treating your brushes right. Just washing them out in your bucket of painting water rarely gets them properly and easily clean and tends to catch pigments too far up the bristles and ruining the point long-term. Always replacing the water after every paint is obviously also not a realistic option, so how to go about cleaning them up mid-paintjob?

    • @alphariusomegon6711
      @alphariusomegon6711 3 роки тому

I know I'm not the intended recipient, but I have a method that works fairly well and has kept most of my expensive detail brushes in good shape.
I tend go go and give them a eash every 30 minutes or so when painting. Running, warm water is best, and just give the bristles a gentle flicking while wetting them. I have found that this helps keep my brushes feeling soft and staying in form for longer.
For larger brushes, say the kind you might use for washes, you can get away with less washing and still keep them in good shape.
      Hope this helps, cheers mate!

I didnt watch yet (but will after comment). I dont care why you’re doing it. I’m just stopping here to say I’m glad you did this. It‘s comforting having someone you appreciate, working on something you have affinity for. Carry on Sir! The Crusade is eternal…ly ensuring two thin coats! Anything less is heresy.

Nice! Around 8:18, Did you apply Agrax Earthshade all-over shade or recess shade on the chest armor with Balthasar Gold? I guess the former?

At the beginning you mentioned to use either your line of black, army painter or Abaddon black. Just curious what your thoughts are on using the Black Templar contrast?

It's a great paint and can be useful on this miniature. You want get a 'pure', deep black but it will be close enough 😊

Start with an off-white primer if you are gonna use templar black. Such as greyseer from citadel

How did you make the white so smooth? Mine always looks chunky. And I try and thin it down
