How nice to see the countryside where I have pretty much spent my entire life, though it is sad to see the old lanes like that. They weren't like that when I was a lad. Where you had your picnic is known as Doldrum and an old ale-house once stood there for the old miners of Tunshill and Ogden. Great to see Michael in his climbing days. Very intrepid! Bye for now, Chris
That's so nice to read Chris. I thought it was your local 'neck of the woods'. Michael mention that many of the old cobbles, down Carr Lane over the years, had broken up into loose rocks. Correction a local said the lane was damaged by quad bikes racing up and down! It makes sense an old ale-house once being at the cross tracks. To say the least, Michael's climbing days 'very intrepid'. Certainly beyond my league!!🙂😶
Those “whatever they’re called”’s are great❤ I love your videos, so calming with great information and humour 🌈✝️🕊️😇😘🥰😌 x x x and wording like saying “that’s a welcome thought” when Michael said you’d be stopping for lunch ❤ you both make me smile 😊 Thank you love Julie x x x
Rewarding to know certain comments 😆made you smile. Must admit I do enjoy being humorous at times. I think you meant the anti snow boot grippers. I also tend to get mixed up with gear technology. Thank you Julie.👍 All the best.
Well that looked like a beautiful snowy walk Shanita, but that's easy for me to say while sitting here watching you in the comfort of my chair 😂 It sure looked lethal so you certainly needed those studs. Loved the poodle on the chair 😁 Nice to end on Long Shadows, a nice upbeat melody. I'm sure you enjoyed your hot drink 😊
Had to wait until nearer home for that welcomed hot drink Patrick. So glad I got back with all my limbs intact (as mentioned to others). Also watching was far easier from a warm chair than the actual experience. (Hopefully not be repeated.) Long Shadows is a variation from an earlier version. As always thanks for music comments too. All the best.
Wow an amazing feat you two!! That looked a long way in the snow & ice, i always chuckle at Michael, he reminds me of a Terminator, there's no stopping him, trundling on! Loved the snow grips, boy you did need them! Your journey was very impressive, i would have been weak at the knees by the end, hope you drunk gallons of hot tea after. Pics of Michael in his hey day were great! Mark will watch this evening after work. Well done Shanita filming in that freezing weather, do admire you!
Thanks so much Anna. It looked easier in my film than actually doing it. Also more comfortable to see from the warmth of an armchair. I think Michael is used to harsh conditions and terrain whereas I prefer the easiest routes, as you can probably tell , but as long as pics and video go down well that's rewarding. I always like tea/cakes and treats after most walks😇
It was a lot harder in actual experience than watching on video. It was certainly lethal in parts and the reason for being cautious even with those studs. (Michael says that the large loose rocks along Carr Lane were broken from loosen cobles over hundreds of years.) Thanks for watching Steve. All the best.
Fantastic walk, good for you both. Walking poles are a must in these conditions, for at least you have a half chance of hitting the ground lightly, rather than a hard landing, if ever you did slip.
Totally agree with walking poles we both took with us as well as studs. One benefit is they can support from slipping or falling over. I think it was the potential of a hard landing slip that made me so cautious especially up that uneven packhorse track. Thanks Jason.
Great pictures of Michaels climbing days. Piethorne or Matterhorn, not a difficult choice for me with more than 500 deaths on the Matterhorn. Love the snow, not so keen on the ice. We did Piethorne a few months ago after watching your earlier video, most enjoyable walk. Nice relaxing music "Long Shadows" Shanita.
Hi Steve. Thanks for comments. I thought it appropriate to include Michael's earlier days of ambitious winter climbing. Certainly not for me as you can imagine. Didn't know about the 500 deaths on Matterhorn though!! So pleased other walkers interested in our routes. Long Shadows a variation of original piece. So thanks again Steve. Best wishes. (p.s. enjoyed watching more than on actual day of walking)🥶😱
It looks a bit dodgy on that walk, your certainly braver than Anna & I . We might have a look in the springtime. The closest I have been is Watergrove reservoir on the other side of the motorway. Nice to see the pictures of Michael in his adventurous days, he clearly keeps on going!
Hi Mark. You could say Michael's stamina and adventure continues from his youthful years. Quite right to leave that track up from Milnrow and beyond until the summer. Once we started up Carr Lane, it was difficult returning back as it was over a mile long. My earlier video of that Tunshill Lane (Rakewood Valley 2024) was much easier than this one.
A relief that others have picked up the treacherous parts too. Not sure how I managed either Jill, as it wasn't ideal. Each step had to be slowly navigated to avoid slipping. But so glad to return with all limbs intact. 😇🦶

Some of those paths looked lethal...good job you had those studs on.

Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching.

looked like a nice walk that shanita, but also looked cold.
Yes Ken. It was during the cold weather and below freezing, just after Christmas. But still good walk.

Well there is no way I would have attempted that in those underfoot conditions. It looked treacherous.
