This is absolutely superb... the writing is brilliant. I saw a very interesting rendition of this play done by a University not long ago and I've been totally enthrawled ever since. The Marquis de Sade is one of the most fastinating chracters I have yet to see in any story.
This speech, while eloquent, belies the true nature of humanity. Marat in his narcissistic haze believes mankind's dominance over nature occurred at the hands of the celebrated few, but never in the history of the universe has such a feat been true. Newton acceded that if he had seen farther into the laws of science it was only by standing on the shoulders of great men. Though the untold millions die in marshes along the path to liberation their contributions should never be so discounted. These are the lies the underhanded use to subvert the rights of man to their own selfish purposes.

Fascinating in his seductions - like the Price of Darkness.
Marat's just delivered the greatest counter point to nihilism ever
There was a reason Patrick Magee was one of Samuel Beckett's favorite actors.
A conversation between these two would have been legitmiately great. Considering they were contemporaries its a sort of shame they didnt.
I read somewhere that Krapp's Last Tape was written with him specifically in mind...

excellent stuff
Oh when when when will this film be released on DVD in the UK?
Yes, i've heard the Judy Collins clip. It's hilarious.
I love the play but i can't appresiate the acting. Sade seems far to controlled. Always a problem when you see more than one person performing it.
