Hi Lou. Thanks for sharing information about Nicaragua. They really need the outside world to know what's going on. Has Beme News also researched about what happen in Honduras recently?
Thanks for your help. This butcher (for me Ortega never was my president) it's trying to manipulate the info and this is the first time I see someone who is not speaking in Spanish about the Nicaraguan situation. We need the world knows about the crimes against humanity Daniel Ortega is committed.
That was very informative thanks alot. I have a friend in college in Nicaragua and I never really understood the depth of what he was talking about when he mentioned these violent protests but this informative video now puts everything in perspective.
This is an excellent explanation of the current rebellion in Nicaragua. I lived there a few years ago and have Nicaraguan friends there who tell me what's going on. Conditions are now very difficult and dangerous. Despite government denials, police are supporting and protecting violent, murderous thugs who have the population living in fear. The level of anger and hatred toward the Ortegas and their enablers is very high. If the general population were armed, as we are in the U.S., there would be a real bloodbath right now. The death toll over the past 2 months is now 170, with well over 1000 wounded and dozens of people unaccounted for. All the people have to defend themselves with are rocks, slingshots, and home made, non-lethal morteros. Yesterday police supported thugs set fire to the business and home of a family which refused to allow them to station a sniper on the roof of their 3 story home/business. 6 people died in the fire including grandparents, parents, and two small children. There have been many similar attacks over the past 2 months, each further enraging the population. Ortega's violent repression of non-violent opposition and resistance has only grossly exacerbated the chaos and anarchy. I fear for my friends, as they do for themselves.
The idea is to do "wild shit" on fridays- that focuses on international stories, or stuff about power and corruption. "Here's the thing" - on wednesdays - sort of covers anything else - lots of tech culture though....its unlikely I'll be able to do two every week but we're trying!
Hey Lou, I have watched beme since it started and i have really enjoyed the videos:). Thank you for countinuing to make good content on the channel, even after most of the beme team left. I hope more people will discover this channel in the future and that beme can get the sucsess you deserve. Keep up the good work!
As an American, i very much enjoy the stories on the political landscape of other countries around the world. There is so much coverage of the US and it's issues in everyday life that taking a break is a fresh breath of air.
Hey Louis! great video, do one about Honduras, They had a similar protests about elections with tens of deaths too, since last year. with a lot of political influence from USA. Can you check it out?
I know you guys did the episode about the mental health of using facebook, if you ever could I would love to hear you guys talk about if its morally right to use facebook being that the idea was directly copied or stolen. Should we support something even if its stolen?? Lou you said something really good in the episode about Ad blockers, how we should pretend that our small decision become the norm for society.
My Nicaraguan friends tell me how dangerous things are getting there, even the church who act like mediators are getting killed. But Nicaragua is willing to fight back. The world needs to pay attention to what is happening there. In my country, Honduras, we are not used to fighting, and now we have a dictator. We spent months on the street protesting, but we didn't have the endurance. The world didn't saw it. Just a few small news stations talked about it.
Josué Castro history proves one thing... only Latin people can determine what they want. We can see that the only way to let them have it, is by there own hands. The world needs to stop putting their hands into other peoples business.
Edmund Dobry true, but when they have an army, what stops them is having powerful witnesses. We need social awareness, or try again having civil wars, electing new leaders and restarting the same cycle, again. I reapply prefer a less violent way.
Josué Castro the situation here is extremely dangerous. The "police" is killing people 3 persons per 6 hours and the young people desappear than appear dead bodies with signs of tortures. This is worst than Somoza's era, this is a demon, he has no soul, hes not a human being. We can't go out after 18:00 or 06:00 p.m. cause the they (killers in the Hilux) kidnap you, rape you if youre female, hit you (no matter your gender), sometimes they just torture and let the people go but the majority of the time the end it's the death. Here we know that we can't go back, we can't turn our back away and to forgive and forget what the butcher of El Carmen did with the country, no. The butcher will pay and all his partners in crime too.
Um, Lou, How much do you work? Like for real. I've written a decent amount of essays throughout my life, and each of your videos is probably a 8-15 page essay (double spaced) and you're producing a video what seems to be every two days, like how do you find the time? Do you also edit your videos? Do you have researchers? Or are you just working like 16 hour days?
James Orr - I have a great editor - Michelle (who is in one of the bitcoin thumbnails) and I have a research assistant for each piece, Dushyant and Page. Page sometimes helps with the edits, too. Dushyant started as an intern but has become invaluable. Some long days, but it's fun stuff.
Please, do the same video news about Venezuela and spread out the word. My country is suffering the same cancer, if not worse, as Nicaragua #sosvenezuela
So true, but ruling by fear has always worked in the past to an extent. Disturbances like this in Nicaragua are a necessary evil of society, as long as outsiders do not mess with it to tip it in their favor. It will keep happening until you let those people decide who and what they want.
It's an age-old problem: the oppressed at some point become the oppressor. This happened in the Soviet Union, and it is happening in present-day Israel, where the Israeli state is oppressing the Palestinians. And I am sure if the Palestinians ever get the upper hand in this conflict, they will turn around and treat the Israeli state the same way the Israeli state has treated them.
What always amazes me with dictators, powerful leaders and oppressive governments is how much more power do you need or want, how much more money do you need or want, when is enough enough? Can't/Don't they realize you get better results when your population is happy and free Vs oppressed and poor?!
Being thank you so much for bringing attention to the situation in my country. things in the country only getting worse the dictator doesn't want to leave and continues to deny that there are paramilitaries killing people and terrorizing the population but Facebook speaks for itself.
Check out #sosnicaragua - a lot of perspectives from inside the country.
Thanks for another good video.
Why don't you collaborate with popular political show ?
Like VisualPolitik EN or an interview by The Rubin Report.
Bill ....maybe a collab at some point. Really want to fine tune who we are, so focusing on that

"Here's the thing"

As an American, i very much enjoy the stories on the political landscape of other countries around the world. There is so much coverage of the US and it's issues in everyday life that taking a break is a fresh breath of air.
Great episode, Lou. That was really concise and informative. Thankyou from Ireland 🌻
I always like every Beme video in the hope that more people see these articles, keep it up with these more 'underrated' news stories!

I'm glad you've eschewed the "and here's the thing." It always felt wrong.

Great video!!!!!!!!
Why do dictators always get replaced with dictators?
[ Duwang_Mn ] because dictators are hungry, they are ambitious and ruthless
Because America usually has their big mighty fat finger on the process pushing it their way, instead of letting the people be people.
keep up the good work. love watching these
Quite informative, thanks.
Awesome Video Beme Team.
Did anyone else notice that the footage at 1:09 was backwards?
Patria libre y vivir

Hey Louis! great video, do one about Honduras, They had a similar protests about elections with tens of deaths too, since last year. with a lot of political influence from USA. Can you check it out?
Wait, is he going to go live his life? What a cliffhanger!
Do you guys still have the app where we can ask questions
Dominic Iverson sadly no

When do you guys will upload one about Venezuela? ”Wild shit” is happening and has been happening in here too?
It seems like this area has known nothing but war.
My Nicaraguan friends tell me how dangerous things are getting there, even the church who act like mediators are getting killed.

James Orr and to be fair I'm responding to this while on a beach in bermuda so I do get some time off
"Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you"
You died a hero or you live long enough to see yourself becoming the villain
All I really want to know is......... are those real jellyfish?!?!
Please, do the same video news about Venezuela and spread out the word. My country is suffering the same cancer, if not worse, as Nicaragua #sosvenezuela
This reminds me of the Arab spring in Egypt and such “I was there” it’s funny how dictators think they can scare poor people with death...
Yeah, especially when they are already starving to death, or dying of medical conditions they cant pay to cure.
So true, but ruling by fear has always worked in the past to an extent. Disturbances like this in Nicaragua are a necessary evil of society, as long as outsiders do not mess with it to tip it in their favor. It will keep happening until you let those people decide who and what they want.
Its more about lack of hope. If you cant hope to win why even bother trying.
Nice video
Geez, sounds like what is happening in the usa right now.
Jonathan C.
Not really.
You're right. It's worse and on a much much bigger scale.
Good job covering this, except for saying Daniel Ortega saved the country, or was ever a hero. Its a tragedy what's happening here
