Peaceful protests in Algeria are working
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- The Arab Spring never took hold in Algeria back in 2011. But in recent months, millions of Algerians engaged in street protests and called for the ouster of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The peaceful demonstrations succeeded in ending Bouteflika’s 20 year reign, but Algerians want to purge the whole corrupt system - the so-called “pouvoir.” Lou explains how the ruling elite took control of Africa’s largest nation, and the challenges that lay ahead.

I don't think this guy is exactly accurate when he says Algerians "know what they want to get rid of but don't know what they want to replace it with." We, Algerians, want to replace that mafia with a democratic system of government. We, the people of Algeria, perfectly know what we want.
@@dannylejuste4667 yeah, but we don't have any idea who exactly we want. I mean, now that Bouteflika's gone, who will be the president? Furthermore, who will be a good president? I don't really see who can fulfill this role for the time being, all I can say, is that we are still here. We are tired of corruption
danny le juste no the guy is absolutely right, imagine tomorrow everyone resigns, every single one of the mafia is out, the system is cleaned from the highest leaf to the lowest root, and since you don’t have anyone leading then things might get messy and frustration might start showing up. You said we know exactly what we want, I think we have an idea but we are not sure who we want is more correct

7:46 Wow, we could really learn a lot about protesting from this!
Sure but as we know, most governments today won't think twice about deploying ultra violent armed forces to crack down on originally peaceful protesters, just looks at the yellow vest movement in France (my country), the cops are using grenade launchers and a type of shotgun (LBD40) that was characterized by the UN as a "weapon of war".
Non-violence has its limits.
@@Caleo996 That has already been tried in Algeria, ready to use stones were found before protests in many areas of the city, videos were taken of young people throwing rocks randomly from a hidden area with security forces standing behind them.
But Algerian protesters were already aware that was gonna happen, so we took extra care for that. and any kind of violent action is stopped immediately by other protesters
That's actually theorized... It was theorized by an American researcher (that I forgot his name)... And started to be put into application in Serbia and other countries afterwards (each with its specifities) you can check optor guides for non violence protests and see similitudes with the different protests... That said, I'm not saying that Algerians are not to be praised for the way they handled it so far...its just not as "spontaneous" as one might think (even though it would be much more romantic that way)
At this point, we're at the stage where all other Arab springs failed, which finding a nationalist replacement, that protects the countries values and the interests of there people....and there are similarities with what is happening in Sudan already, which is a small group that doesnt have much weight on the ground, and knows very well that elections are not in his best interests, is trying to seize power at any cost.
You can look for colorful protests
@@Caleo996 cause the yellow vests are violent
One of the few non Algerian observers who are getting it right . Good analysis you covered almost all points nicely . And just a reminder : yes the lack of ideology in the power "le pouvoir" side is a thing . The only thing that puts them together is stealing from the people . Good luck sir for your next videos . You've gained a new sub .

We're so late we showed up to the arab spring 8 years late.
But we took those 8 years to perfect it, and make it peaceful!

I disagree, we did the Arab spring 30 years ago......This is different!
never compare it to the Arab spring or I'd rather say Arab hell
our first spring was in the 80s
I'm so glad to see that some people like you are trying to clearify this. Just thank you^^

The FLN was violent which sparked the Algerian war with France. But they did win their independence. Violence is always an option, but it’s great to see them succeeding peacefully
For the anti-colonization war, no other choices was left to the algerian people.
The FLN was violent!! So what were the French doing for over 130 years there?????
K culture I never once said anything about the horrendous things France did in Algeria. That isn’t what my comment was about. Yes, the FLN had to use violence to win their independence because they felt it was the only thing France knew, the Serif massacre still fresh in the minds of FLN members. I was simply saying I am glad that TODAY they have found a way to win with peace.
Violence was the only option left against the fascist colonialist machine of France. My grandmother was ripped from her right to education, healthcare and was then killed in a french bombing. Violence is the only legitimate response to foreign invaders. If it happens again, be sure that all Algerians will take arms again. There are two honor codes in our mouvement that you can see in most slogans: 1- peaceful protests, 2- no foreign intervention.
Did you think they'd use on their own people the same touls they used on a freaking coloniser ?
Watching This gave me chills , am so proud of my country 🇩🇿 and my brothers and sisters yetnhaw ga3 inchallah 1,2,3 vive l'Algérie

And yes, what i'm worried about is when all of this is over and all the bad people are gone, who's going to replace them? Everyone will become a hero and everyone will want to have power which may lead to another disagreement.
I hope everything will be okay tho!

Bro, i'm amazed being algerian myself! great analysis, what are your sources?
For the 1992, well it is more compilacated, it starts in 1988, many of artists and left wing intellectuals were killed or forced to leave the country by the army and the extremist groups.
let me know if you are interested to exchange it maybe help you in your future analysis cause it affected many other countries politics.

heyo ✌🏼 great work you did here, you really explained it fully. Although, as someone who's living in algerie and witnessing the events since my early youth, I'd like to add smth concerning the Arab Spring! It is true that we didn't really protest back then, true that Boutef did his best to shut us up, but back then people weren't really aware of the wrongness of the situation. As long as we lived in peace nd life ws easy, no one would want to protest. As years passed by, the county started facing financial problems due to the exploitation of natural resources and the lack of other businesses. the modern youth grew up since the Arab spring with modern ideas and a need to free the beautiful country from "le pouvoir", and that's why we took time to "move".
Thanks Lou I haven't seen more accurate description from a foreigner. You basically summed up everything.
No to a military state, YES to civil state, you generals your place is in military bases not in politics.

Does anyone else play the game where you try to guess if a BEME video's title and thumbnail signify a "Wild Sh*t", "Here's the Thing" or "Doc-style video"?
Greetings from Algeria, you did a very good presentation of the situation here,
and yes, our problem now is to find a substitute because Bouteflika regime was able to corrupt the majority of opposition parties to the point that they become part of the regime itself. This problem has also a benefit, because with the absence of leaders the regime was unable to find a target to overcome this revolution and they found themselves facing the whole population which is very difficult for them.
Don't worry, we will figure out, in the right moment, how to elect leaders to speak in our name.
We will live free or die free.
