"All By Myself" - a 2020 two-piano special (Rachmaninoff + Celine Dion)

- To wrap up this challenging year, we present a new music video that captures 2020's states of loneliness, heartache, and longing: ALL BY MYSELF, a mash-up of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto and Eric Carmen's song "All By Myself" (famously covered by powerhouse pop diva @CelineDion in the 1990s).
"All by myself / Don’t wanna be / All by myself / Anymore ..."
In isolation and separated from each other by nearly 3,000 miles for nearly 10 months, we couldn’t have said it better! We hope our mash-up resonates with you during this age of anxiety. Beyond the obvious relevance of the title and lyrics, the recognizable nature of this song coupled with the sweeping romanticism of Rachmaninoff’s textures feed our craving for comfort and connection. Please feel free to sing along with our performance; music like this invites a much-needed collective catharsis, and we hope it carries you forward into the new year with a resurgence of hope. 😘
(Keep an eye out for our dream venue @carnegiehall ✨😉)

Arrangement, performance, direction, filming, editing, and production by Greg Anderson & Elizabeth Joy Roe.
The skilful and seemless blend of these 2 melodies has produced a masterpiece that I'm sure will be enjoyed by many music lovers. This is most definitely musical therapy of the highest order. I play it in the morning to prepare me for whatever challenges the day presents and last thing at night to induce a peaceful rest. My thanks and many congratulations to Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe for crafting a masterpiece that will provide unending enjoyment.
The beauty of 2nd movement(especially later part) is a kind of miracle.
"All by Myself" was taken from the 2nd movement, Adagio sostenuto - Piu animato, of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 Op. 18.
This is brilliantly clever and should have a LOT more likes. Two world class pianists, especially the lady who is gorgeous when she plays with such heart. So, are we saying Eric was aware of the musical inspiration behind his hit? We Rachmaninoff still in copyright back in 1975? Actually, yes, he died in 1945 and it looks like (wiki) Eric Carmen credits the composer.
Yes, and yes, but in Europe, so Carmen may not have known he was violating European rules, especially since he had no way of knowing the worldwide sensation he was about to release.
One thing is clear: Eric Carmen didn't compose his song all by himself.
only his lyrics
Classic!
That's true...sounds from heaven
He descompose Rachmaninof a little
I don't care. He made Rachmaninovs' estate more money than they could ever hope for. RIP ERIC. you'll never be 'All By Yourself". ❤
I love this song & I love Rackmaninoff but I didn't know, All by myself was a synthesis, of both. A beautiful piece of music so superbly played. Thank you!!!
Beautiful! Although 3000 miles apart, I can feel the unity. Lol! The famous chest pound! Very on point!
This is SO GOOD. The music says it all: loneliness, heartache, and longing through this pandemic. Thank you so much Anderson & Roe❤️
And the camera work - so creative-helps to tell us the story behind the arrangement. You guys are amazing.
Thank you very much! It's great!
Absolutely beautiful. THANK YOU!
I cannot stop listening to the both of you playing this wonderful piece. I listen with eyes closed as my heart soars on those notes my eyes moist with tears as I weep at the beauty you’ve produced. Thank you both very much.

So beautiful it brought tears to my eyes! Amazing! 👏👏👏
Thank you for 12 minutes of absolute bliss!
I 💕 your perfect performance, I love Rachmaninoff
Whenever I heard rachmaninov concerto no 2 I thought of All by myself now I know why!
Perhaps because the verse sounds identical?
Absolutely astounding performance the mix of Eric Carmen’s Rachmaninoff inspired piece and of course the second movement of SR’s beautiful and inspired piece. In my opinion the second movement was the sparkling gem of that 3 part concerto. Hearing that takes me away to a different and wonderful place. Thank you both for this wonderful, captivatingly beautiful work. ❤️🎼🎹🎵🎶❤️
Mind: blown! 🤯 This was so beautiful ❤
Two of my favourites finally mashed up. Wonderful

wow
Rachmaninoff + Eric Carmen :)
I'm not crying, you're crying.
Meravigliosi.
It’s not Celine Dion. "All by Myself" is a song by American singer-songwriter Eric Carmen released in 1975. The verse is based on the second movement (Adagio sostenuto) of Sergei Rachmaninoff's circa 1900-1901 Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Opus 18. The chorus was taken from the song "Let's Pretend", which Carmen wrote and recorded with the Raspberries in 1972.
A masterpiece! So beautiful and beautifully played. ❤️🌹
thats buttery smoooooooth, I cried a little...
poop too
😊
Congratulations on your transcription and your wonderful interpretation!
Can we buy your sheet music?
All by myself is a song by Erick Carmen, and in turn Erick Carmen took a part of an original work by Rachmaninoff .. Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18: II. Adagio Sostenuto... Jajaja.. the art of influence ... maybe
He used the chord progression unknowingly thinking Rachmaninoff was public domain already.... Making Rachmaninoff a credited writer, and the world's first pop composer!
True..but the mixing arrangement is good ; only the sound in piano.of Eric...the high note..are a little bit out of tune. But per total is beautiful very pleasant to listen. Both are very good pianists!
c'est "Geronimo" (Complots)
can you please do any of ludovico einaudi's

dont be a croissant
This performance, despite being nice and beautiful, is neither Dion nor Rachmaninoff. The Climax of this 2. movement of this concerto was just edited off!! I'm sure lady Dion wouldn't have approved. Gorgeous duo, but I think they do too much for being popular than true artists. Pity, cause they are really excellent pianists.
It's difficult to resist labeling Rachmaninoff's compositions as the most beautiful among a long list of gifted composers. Yet whenever I need inspiration to pick up my instrument and play it to the best of my ability, it's Sergei Rachmaninoff who I turn to; but sometimes I invite Satie, Debussy, Ravel and Chopin into my head. Thank you so much for putting together this wonderful video!
taste. throw in Max Bruch and you've got my favourite composers
Not me. I pick up Beegie Adair, Peter Nero, and Carmen Cavallaro.
Really beautiful.. Rachmaninoff is a KING!!
Guys, I have been an enthusiastic fan of yours for many many years (actually from when you began to post your videos... 13 years ago) and every time I hear you play, I am truly touched.... Thank you for sharing with us your beautiful music, your extraordinary technique and very sentimental way of performing.... Bravo!!!!! :)
I love what you have done here. It's a fabulous arrangement and performance, as usual! As an older piano kid I was super pleased when Eric Carmen had a huge hit with this song. In the usual FM cut at the time, he did a bridge of the actual Rach movement. There is another Eric Carmen hit based on Rachmaninov that you might enjoy. He took a snippet from the start of the third movement of the second Rach symphony, and, I have always thought, this musical thought is one of the most beautiful ever done. Carmen turned it into "Never going to fall in love again". ua-cam.com/video/8bneQ26bHXk/v-deo.html
Beautifully shot and edited, and as always stunning arranging and playing
Bravissimi! Veramente emozionante
How perceptive and how very beautiful. Top billing for all concerned here, thank you. Loved the image of Bridget jones in action as well E.J,
Siete fantastici!!!!!!!😍😍
What a great mix - the tunes blend in so well together. Thanks a million!
Beautiful❤️
Magnifique ! Bravo !
Beautiful. Thank you!!!!!
After 2 wks inthe hospitalthis should be my theme song….
❤❤❤❤❤
Blown away…. Bravo!
Merci !
👏👏👏👏👏👍
Very nice 👍🙂
I wish you a 2021 year like that. I think that Rachmaninov is fantastic and i hated the way of singing of Céline Dion. In this association of both, we help me to accept that things I hate have a place in my life and I have to accept that you can hate Rachmaninov. Such a great mix is a symbol of hope for the new year. Let the music make life.
Beautiful playing as usual! Just seeing Liz wearing that red dress was worth the watching. Lol
