Good one Scott 🏴. Never tried chicken stock -I always use knorr ham stock cubes but will give chicken a go 👍
Thanks Fiona. I hope you enjoy it!!
❤
You can’t beat the Scottish granny recipes, love this one. 👍
You got that right!
I always make this scotch soup like this.
My grandad and my dad is Scottish. Nanna showed me this recipe when I was 21 years old. Never will forget it ❤️
Great to hear 👏🏻
Ive just made this only been up an hour thought to myself ill make this now ready for lunch time quick and easy for this cold and dreary day .
Nice one Lisa, hope you enjoy it!
Straight forward recipe. I added a smoked ham shank to it. The recipe is a great one. I will most definitely make it again
Yum, glad you enjoyed it!
Thankyou Scott, another banger, similar to one I've used for years...love it..
Nice one! Glad to hear it's similar.
Almost exactly the recipe I’ve used for years (I add a wee shake of Worcestershire sauce). Delicious
Sounds great! A nice addition.
It's interesting that this a Scottish recipe 😊.... I have been cooking this one as my own recipe for more than 20 years..the only difference is that I am using the green lentils and I soak them before cooking, and i use the fresh tomatoes instead of the puree :) Happy to know that my recipe is a Scottish recipe!!!❤
Mine actually may be missing a ham hock in it.
You’ve inspired me at the age of 50 to finally make some soup! Don’t know why I’ve never done it as Lentil soup was one of my favourite meals as a kid!
Thats amazing. Hope you enjoy it!!
Definitely making this, easy, delicious and very healthy as well as budget friendly and who doesn’t need that at this time of year. 😊
Ace! Glad you like this one!
What a fab winter warmer and an inexpensive one , easy to prepare too
Souper duper 🤗👏
Thanks a lot 😊
Made this soup last week. The most delicious simple recipe and freezes so well! Literally a hug in a soup bowl. Thanks Scott for another winning, healthy idea
Glad to hear this! Thanks for sharing! 🤩
Can't wait to make this, it looks delicious. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I made this on Monday & it's simple but delicious! It'll be a regular from now on.
Superb 🙌🏻
I just saw your recipe ,and i can't wait to try it. I ❤ lentils!
They are sooooooo good for you.
Thanks. I hope you enjoy it.
I use grated carrots and sliced leeks in mine with ham stock cube. Going to have it on Christmas day but using a ham hock.
Hope you enjoy this one! :)
That is really lovely. I am going to make it as a Xmas day starter as you only need a small bowlful with everything else that follows. I made it in my slow cooker as a midweek dinner and then everyone can grab a bowlful at different times as it doesn't really spoil
Glad you like this one!
Can’t wait to cook this tomorrow 🏴 ❤️
Hope you like it!
Looks great, thank you.
Enjoy!
I am scottish mate and i use tomato puree, chicken stock and celery. I would add a leek and neeps with a ham hock if it was christmas or the bells but for weekly pots i dont. If you are not caring about diet i add a good bit of butter at the start and a wee knob of butter in everyone's bowl when serving
Thanks for the tips!
Made this soup a couple of times and it's so delicious
Ace! Thanks Judith. Got version 2 going live today (I think)
Great job Scott will try it with some more spice
Hope you like it!
I just saw your video and I have everything but the red lentils. I have green lentils and going to use that instead. So easy and looks delicious and for supper tonight. Hi from Canada.
Hey, sure! You can give that one a go and let us know!
Made this today added some chilli flakes for a bit of a kick loved it thanks. Keep them coming
Nice on Kenny. Glad you liked it.
Well thats my dinner sorted! I'll make ot this afternoon, go and teach Spinning, then come home and warm it up. Yum!
Great to hear. I hope you enjoy it.
@@ScottBaptie it's cooking right now, smells yummy 😋
thanks scott.👍
No problem 👍
Looks delicious!!!!
Hope you like it! :)
Going to try this 🎉
Hope it goes well 👍🏻
I love lentil soup & I agree with you that chicken stock is better, good with veg as well but I prefer chicken
☺️
Just made a massive pot absolutely dead cuffed by myself. That I followed your recipe. Awesome beautiful tasty chunks of carrot.
I added a knob of butter to give that flavour Comb, turned great plenty left overs for my neighbour which said he'll get torn into asap😅😊.
Thank you so much definitely a family favourite now, dad to the rescue 🛟 ❤ feed them with 💕
Kindly regards
Ewen MacDonald 🤟😎👏👏
That's wonderful! Glad you enjoyed it!
that's nearly the exact soup we do here in the middle east minus the celery and chiken stock.we can use instead potato or not. and more spices. .make sure to rinse multiple time the lentils until the water cease to look foggy. and bon appetit
Delicious. What spices do you usually include?
I used ketchup instead of purée since that’s what I had and 4 cups of water since my pot wouldn’t fit 5 but otherwise the same recipe and it’s amazing! Thank you so so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Simple is almost always best in my book.
No black (or any other peppercorn pepper) for me due to allergy. For a tiny bit of kick, there are many ways to substitute. Sounds good for this cold day when the fog never fully burned off.
Hope you like this one!
As a Scot who makes Lentil Soup regularly, I've never known Celery or Onion in it!! Red Lentils, grated Carrots, sliced Leeks plus 2 Knorr Ham stock cubes is my recipe. Finished with finely chopped Parsley. And of course, a Ham Hiugh if I can get one!🏴
Adding the ham would be yum but not sure why you wouldn't have an onion in it? In my opinion it's only going to add more flavour.
You wouldn’t have known if you’ve always had your own recipe, it’s like Stovies…everyone makes it differently.
Split peas n all
I'm making this right now! One question.. The tomato puree.. It looks very thick.. More like what we in the states call tomato paste. Maybe it's just a difference in terminology? Here in the states tomato puree is something you pour in to the pot and tomato paste has to be spooned in because it's so thick.. Cheers!
Hey sorry, just saw this. Yes, tomato paste for you folks. 🇺🇸
I'm going to make this for my lunch. As it's only me it will last several days including some for the freezer. Looking forward to it.
Hope you enjoy it! 🙌🏻
@@ScottBaptie I 've enjoyed every one of your recipes so far but this one is gorgeous, a definite keeper 😍
I had these ingredients ready to pop in soup maker - minus the tomato puree, but added it anyway - when the email came in. So I tried the cook in EVOO first then put in soup maker. But when done I added some cooked shredded chicken (leftovers), it was delicious. My dinner tonight.
Nice! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Soffrito base in chicken stock and lentils … easy to remember:)
Hope you like this one!
Looks good. Serve with a lovely crusty roll i reckon! Can't wait.
Hope you like it! :)
Very good if vegan and tasty
Thanks, it’s a winner
Looks really nice. Where do you purchase your saucepan please let me know. Thank you
Hey, it's from a Costco set from 10 yrs ago! :)
Hi scott I’m going to make it with stock cubes. How many cubes will I mix with water to get the right flavour ?
I generally use 1 stock cube per 500 ml of water.
cheers that’s good to know.
Nice, thanks. So you don't strip the celery of the stringy bits?
No need, you fry it and then it cooks for 45-60 mins. No stringiness at all.
@@ScottBaptie Perfect, thanks!
You did good job brother like Indian
Lentil soup ❤❤❤👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks man. What other spices would you normally add?
Looks good 👍, but how much lentils and broth u put in?
It's 230g red lentils and 1200ml vegetable stock. Enjoy!
Can i use green lentils?
Sure, if you want to. Let me know how it goes.
Does it have to be a red onion, or could you use a white?
💯
Should be using ham hock too
Version 2 coming in due course....with ham.
Do you have it written down sir?

does anyone know where I can get gluten-free lentils for this recipe please ?
"Lentils are naturally gluten-free. They are recommended for people with celiac disease and other gluten-related disorders. However, like oats, they appear to be at a heightened risk of cross contact with gluten-containing grains. This is due in part to farming practices. Lentils may come into contact with wheat, barley, or rye while being grown, harvested, and/or stored." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9101047/#:~:text=Lentils%20are%20naturally%20gluten%2Dfree.,contact%20with%20gluten%2Dcontaining%20grains.
What's the garnish?
You can use some parsley or coriander as garnish. Cheers
Shame this wasn't out on Saturday. I made chicken and vegetable soup with a twist. I put lentils and split peas in it. I used chicken thighs for the flavour. I shall make this next time. Thank you Scott.
Hope you like this one too!
Try adding some smoked paprika, cumin and turmeric for a twist. 💕
Thanks for the tip! :)
Can i throw in frozen spinach
Sure you can
Could have sworn you said 20 grams of black pepper,Knew as soon as I put it in it was wrong will give it another go😂
🤣 ooft, spicy 🔥
No salt?
You can definitely add in some if you prefer. Hope you enjoy this :)
Made this the same way top notch
Can the tomato puree be omitted as I can't eat tomatoes
Absolutely
do not get heinz lentil & bacon soup unless you want no bacon
Thanks!
There ain't a lot of protein in lentils
Good for a plant-based protein source 👍🏻
Ham stock cubes is only way my family have cooked it or slab of ham
Hope you enjoy!
