Join the State Historical Society of Iowa for an online learning series that focuses on the past lives of Iowans. In this week's webinar, titled, The Deep History of Coal Mining in Madrid, Iowa, Mary Swalla Holmes and Kristin Redenius from the Madrid Historical Museum explored the deep mining history surrounding Madrid, Iowa. Throughout the presentation, they discussed the various jobs and lives of miners and their families in a coal camp, the importance of the Miner’s Union and the process miners took to preserve this valuable history.
