Iowa History 101: Iowa's African American Civil War Heritage

Join the State Historical Society of Iowa for an online learning series that focuses on the past lives of Iowans. In this week's webinar, titled Iowa's African American Civil War Heritage, Dr. David Brodnax, Sr., Professor of History at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois, explored Iowa’s black Civil War veterans and their families and communities. This webinar looked at wartime black migration into the Hawkeye State, the service of Iowa’s 60th U.S. Colored Infantry regiment, and the postwar lives of veterans, including their central role in civil rights efforts.
