A family affair. The two little girls (the "mouses") are Iturbi's actual grandchildren & the woman pianist in this scene is his sister Amparo Iturbi. Iturbi was born in Spain but his grandchildren were American. Iturbi's daughter who lived near her father in Hollywood died at age 28 in the same year as this film 1946. After a custody battle it was mutually agreed that Maria Iturbi's former husband an American concert violinist & one time protegee of Iturbi would be given custody of their two daughters. Actress & singer Kathryn Grayson who worked with Iturbi in several films and remained close friends, occasionally dining and going to concerts with him, said in an interview: "I adored Iturbi....A perfect gentleman...He was just a sweet and darling man, a very special human being. He was kind and generous to everyone, and had a great sense of fun.....Anywhere Jose was you were guaranteed to have fun. He had the most marvelous sense of humor, he made everything funny & he was always joking. I just loved him--and his sister Amparo. They were kind & sweet to everyone. I would have loved them just for that alone, but their personalities were particularly wonderful." =Jose Iturbi became an American citizen in 1941 and is buried next to his daughter Maria and sister Amparo Iturbi in Los Angles.

He really connected with his "audience", but when I see his fingers and hand position my hands hurt and I cringe. Amazing that someone could play so well with that curvature.
That "curvature" was something he worked hard to achieve. Wanda Landowska was one of his teachers while Iturbi was waiting for acceptance into the Paris Conservatory (they only took two foreign students a year) and she held her fingers like that. It was supposed to provide strength and reach.
Actress/singer Katherne Grayson on Iturbi: "Everyone respected him....First & last he was a great pianist. He had great power in his hands. His fingers were like little hammers. Amparo (Iturbi) used her fingers like that too. Wonderful music they made."
Iturbi isn't conventionally handsome. Don't know why exactly, but he is very attractive. Iturbi connects--has high temperament (vigorous, volatility), authority & sly cocky charm. Off screen he was known as "Turbulent Iturbi". Despite horrific accidents (including to his hands) Iturbi remained a speed freak--cars, boats, planes, pianos, etc.
PSA for young pianists DO NOT COPY THIS GUY'S HAND POSITION OR FINGER ACTION you will play worse get hurt. Watch Schiff or Rubinstein or Art Tatum maybe if you have big hands.

Imagine such minds of piano discipline and musical genius as to switch from constant classical to rock N' roll.

Boogie Woogie was arranged for him by 16-year-old Andre Previn. Seriously.
Master artist with the Pisno
Si escuche sus discos. .🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Me too ! Jose sure knows how to boogie the woogie ! Cute clip ! :-)
it's great!
Wowowowowowo amazing 🤩🤩🤩
Is this the piano improv that Andre Previn wrote for this film?
He really connected with his "audience", but when I see his fingers and hand position my hands hurt and I cringe. Amazing that someone could play so well with that curvature.
His sister Amparo, briefly seen on this clip - and on several others - was one of his pupils, and her fingers share the same characteristics...
Have you seen film-dom's Levant's hand curvature? Wow.

Please credit his sister too
I always thought he was a very attractive man.
He was - due to his great personal charm - and those eyes of his :-)

He was indeed a handsome and charismatic fellow. And of course truly gifted musically !
