I was spending days playing with it and watching videos of how to be a "pro" with it apparently my mom got in touched with mom after he left my school and showed me how much Ed I loved. Well on my 12th birthday (I'm still 12) he sent me a 140$ brushed gold butterfly knife man do I miss him... As a Balisong Trickster, I can't stress enough. Kids, if you're new, you dont actually need a Trainer Knife. HOWEVER, please wear gloves. Some tricks require the back of the blade to collide with your hand. Its not sharp (If you're gripping the Saftey Handle), and doesnt hurt. But with shorter or cheaper balisong's (which are great to start out with) may have a curved point, or just a short point. And when you're starting out, even learning the basic opening flip, the point can hit or scratch your hand. So the best thing to do when starting out is to WEAR GLOVES.
i remember when i saw my first balisong in a movie and said i want one of those. the movie was Big Trouble in Little China. years later i got a couple of cheap ones i ordered online. and a couple of them from a fair i went to. and hes on point with the less things on it the better it will be.

The black one is a pretty good one, I was surpriced myself aswell. These days its getting pretty hard to find decent ones....when I was a kid, you could buy these at the local fishermanstore :)

strawbana theres something called a powerful magnet. use it to turn the screws. you can also drill a small hole that would apply preassure to the sides of the screws for extra screwing force

Show her a dang picture of the two so she can tell the difference. If you convince her to get you that, then maybe you can prove you are good enough to not cut yourself on a real one!
The black one you have I literally got the same one from a farmers market nearby my house and I’m going back after losing it 7 months ago. Iv been looking for that company for ages. Same box and all. I had chrome handles but still. It was surprising sharp for find it at a farmers market.
Kalieb Combs same I have 6 katanas 3 butterfly knives and 4 throwing knives... But... 2 of my katanas are wooden trainers, all of my butterfly knives are trainers... and I'm not aloud to touch my REAL katanas or throwing knives until I get older... so I don't really have any..........
I have 2 trainers. One like the silver one, but black, and one with blue handles and its an obvious trainer. The blue one is higher quality, but heaver and hurts my knuckles. The black one is worse quality, but its a lot lighter and is easier on the knuckles.
Bought one of those chinese 42 knockoffs. The pivot screws become loose quickly but otherwise it flips fine and cuts well. Even the spring latch works well
I'm on the fence about getting a "higher end" one, I love knives, but it's really hard to justify spending a few hundred bucks on a single knife. I do have 3 that are so cheap that most balisong dorks won't even look at them lol. I have like a 40 dollar benchmark, USA made with the black pitted texture and round / oval hole combo handles. it's pretty heavy but flips great, especially after having it for years. I have two 20 dollar no names, one is classic silver with 7 round holes on each side (in my opinion the best looking out of any design) and an identical one with the heat treated rainbow finish. All are brass pin and solid handle construction. I may shoot for something slightly over the 100 dollar range. I always thought of those bells and whistles as more to go wrong, but I'm no champion flipper either so idk. At this point I should just take the leap for something semi respectable to see what the fuss is about
So I bought one similar to the silver one (the crappy one) and after a while, it started to loosen up so I could do tricks with it without it catching on itself
Ayy, I got a cheaper one as a gift that actually has the blade rivetted to the handles. At first I really thought it's gonna be shitty and fly apart in a few flips but it has held up great. The rivets have "stretched out" naturally over time flipping and now the rivets are quite loose in the holes, flipping it is an absolute bliss. The fact that the handles have so much give makes it way easier to gain a lot of momentum sideways and makes some tricks real easy, the knife just flows in my hands.
Started flipping w a shitty china bali and as of right now I am flipping the kershaw lucha and am in love. I have dinged it dropped it and it has taken a few beatings. I've had the lucha for about a month now and I haven't had to loosen it or tighten it. Came ready right out the box and I think it is one of the best balisongs ever
I stabbed a guy with a cheap one once. it went through his leather belt, through his jeans and sunk about 2 inches into his hip. don't underestimate the cheap ones. lol
I picked up a balisong from a local general store. It was twenty bucks and it's lasted over a year so far with very minimal damage to it. I use it all the time, it's basically my fidget spinner.
Go on dh Gate and pick up a few u will be surprised u can find ones that aren't rip offs for like 10-20$ and there nice those ones are like 5$ on there it's worth a look for ya
Brandon Fischer quality knives for 5-20 bucks? lmao pal if u really want a knife with good quality that isnt a china knockoff just save some money and buy a real brand.
The black one (too lazy to find the name) has a vital flaw. All those holes make it VERY week in the handle. The force of using it on a normal basis causes the holes to crack around the edge, eventually snapping
Kids are just interested in them because of CSGO and Team Fortress. I own several actual blades myself (in addition to too many pocket knives), but I won't dare do any aerial tricks on anything but a trainer, way too easy for something to go wrong. I personally can't justify dropping $200+ on a knife, especially with living expenses fresh out of college, so I make do with some cheaper blades.
MidnightPhantasm to be honest arials work 95% of the time if you know how to do them right. if you are scared of dropping it, flip it over a carpet, couch or bed, duh
Crazy Bad Flipping so what, 800? 1000 dollars for a good balisong? lol my £16 lasted 6 months already. im sure a 300 or 400 dollar one would last decades.
If you are a knife collector.. own a traditional Batangas Balisong called "Bente Nueve" or "29" (its 29cm).. it has a handle made from carabao horns or deer antlers and sometimes from kamagong "bahi" wood (also used as arnis-kali stick material)...
Jonathan Thompson I just scrolled through their website so that's honestly the only experience I have but they seem to be constructed like this silver one I have here a lot of small parts and they may not be constructed to the high standards so I wouldn't recommend for heavy flipping but for casual flipping tune it as needed and Loctite all of the screws should be okay for collecting heck yeah whatever makes you happy is the shit
Mine actually came really stiff, so I used pellgun oil and worked it through the pivots and loosened them just a hair. I'm quite happy with my Raptor Claw that I got for ~$20. s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/44/c7/e3/44c7e33d0bd84149df6a240939cf7b4f.jpg
@lugermonger you should scoop up a couple of icetek trainers or other brands and do a review. The damascus trainer they make is pretty solid actually. for like $12 its pretty "heavy duty"
I had an Icetek from WalMart On-Line. I had it for about 2 months. It had screws that tightened and could be loosened to give it more play. The knife was only about $12.00 and was Made In China and started to get quite rickety. The sides (wings) started coming off after I had dropped it a couple times and were not easy to tighten back up. Obviously, it isn't a great quality knife, but, it was good to learn with---cut the shit outta myself, but, it was my first Balisong.
Bruhh I was at a shop like 2 days ago and they had a balisong, i wanted to try it out and when i opened it i cut myself IT WAS A FECKING DOUBLE BLADED BALISONG
The black 1 for 11 bucks is better. U can hammer the pins to tighten it up and mushroom them so they lock and it is a really good knife. Although I took the pins out and stuck my 1095 steel blade in it and put new pins in
I have the same model he showed in this video (the one that isn't the 42 ripoff). I've had it for three years and it still flips like the day I got it. If I could justify dropping the $200 on a benchmade I would though.
if you have the same problem as the silver balisong that doesnt spin, just unscrew the bottom thing that holds it closed, i did that and the problem got fixed
I had one of those black cheapo butterfly knives and the handle snapped mid spin and the rest of the knife went flying. I had it for a few years after receiving it for a birthday present. I guess it couldn’t handle me playing with it every few weeks and decided to split. Thankfully my wife and son were in the other room.
I bought my first Balisong about two days ago and i got the same problem you had with the second one. I started practicing some basic openings and closings and the screw from the bite handle started to fall off. And the thing is i can't tighten it, if i tighten it too much it won't open smoothly, but if don't do it it unscrews itself every time i open the blade, right now i had to resort to glue the screw in place, it seems like it worked but the handle is a little tight. But i can work with that.
I got my first butterfly knife from the fair $15. And I honestly can't complain cheap nice and sharp. I beat the hell out of it lol. I see everyone saying start out with a practice knife (which I did not) it's probably a good idea I cut the hell out of my hand one time but now I got it down pretty good. cute pit by the way!
I have a training one, it’s kind of thick but it works so good, and the blade is like 2mm thick you can’t sharpen it. I recommend something like this to all beginners.
in BATANGAS,PHILIPPINES ... you can ask the store clerk to test it for you... he/she will stab it through a coin.... good balisong or bente nueve (means 29.... because it is 29 inches long)will stab through a coin and it will not swivel after
Here in Mexico that balisong (made in China) has in the box the brand of the company, here in Mexico the brand has the name of lion tools and this model costs approximately 75 pesos in my state, in stores by internet costs up to 150 pesos (at the moment they would be more or less 4-5 dollars in pshysical store or 8-10 dollars in virtual store and other 4-6 dollars by the shipping
balisong is in a "legal vacuum" in Mexico, since its use is not regulated, it is very easy to acquire one in any market, although it is a weapon, this is not illegal unless you walk with it in your pocket and check it police or ocupes for something like a steal or hurt someone, meanwhile no problem with them in Mexico alone could be considered illegal knives display that are made to combat or to hurt, is something not regulated in this country
I had one similar to the black one for $10 as my first knife just to have one and mess with but it didn’t last very long. It didn’t have spacers so the blade wiggled and the handles spread apart at the pins after a little while the more I used it. The pins for the blade and the pin for the latch all came out. My brother bought one too but with a different pattern on it and his had one spacer on each handle and the same thing started to happen so we used pliers to keep the handles straight for the pins to stay in place and eventually one of the handles broke in half.
I once bought balisong in a souvenir shop in Greece. It works fine. I can do tricks with it but lock became so lose that I can't lock the knife anymore so I just saw it off.
So.... I'm new to butterfly knives or Balisongs, and my girlfriend got me a trainer knife of the one that's displayed on the left in the video (the "pathetic" one) and after the first day of using it got hard to flip so I asked my father if we had any lube and i sprayed some WD-40 on the joints of the trainer and it works fine for me. As a beginner I don't know much about the knifes nor whats good and whats bad but I can see that this looks like a community that I can happily join :>

At this point I should just take the leap for something semi respectable to see what the fuss is about
If balisongs are illegal in you country get a trainer balisong, it's like 12 bucks and they're blunt so you can't cut yourself.
A Grizzly Bear are you the bear from bear and son balisongs?
A Grizzly Bear lol i got a trainer for 5 bucks
get trainer put it to grinder.
Robert Harden Glens yep. get trainer, sharpen it. noone will ever know
the one without drilled holes are still illegal i think
So I bought one similar to the silver one (the crappy one) and after a while, it started to loosen up so I could do tricks with it without it catching on itself
Poor thumb got smashed😥
Ayy, I got a cheaper one as a gift that actually has the blade rivetted to the handles. At first I really thought it's gonna be shitty and fly apart in a few flips but it has held up great. The rivets have "stretched out" naturally over time flipping and now the rivets are quite loose in the holes, flipping it is an absolute bliss. The fact that the handles have so much give makes it way easier to gain a lot of momentum sideways and makes some tricks real easy, the knife just flows in my hands.
the first time I tried to open a butterfly knife i cut my hand and in had to hidebthe cut from my mom
jorge the dog same 😂 my mom would’ve killed me if she knew I had one
Lmao
Started flipping w a shitty china bali and as of right now I am flipping the kershaw lucha and am in love. I have dinged it dropped it and it has taken a few beatings. I've had the lucha for about a month now and I haven't had to loosen it or tighten it. Came ready right out the box and I think it is one of the best balisongs ever
I'm so broke I made a butterfly knife out of paper
Cool, and got the black one the other day for ten, glad it’s ok for how cheap it is.
I stabbed a guy with a cheap one once. it went through his leather belt, through his jeans and sunk about 2 inches into his hip. don't underestimate the cheap ones. lol
duke silver you are a criminal now.
duke silver well I guess you can say it was really sharp for a cheap knife
Holy shiy
duke silver like you've stabbed someone before
i call bullshit
I picked up a balisong from a local general store. It was twenty bucks and it's lasted over a year so far with very minimal damage to it. I use it all the time, it's basically my fidget spinner.
Go on dh Gate and pick up a few u will be surprised u can find ones that aren't rip offs for like 10-20$ and there nice those ones are like 5$ on there it's worth a look for ya
Brandon Fischer quality knives for 5-20 bucks? lmao pal if u really want a knife with good quality that isnt a china knockoff just save some money and buy a real brand.
Whats funny is that I bought the exact same knife and it came in that exact same box at a store called The Third Planet. (The price was around $25)
what breed is your dog
Mike Zema she's a pit terrier mix thick Pitbull body little tiny head
Nice I have a purebred pitbull
I have a pet rock.
KoWe Kingdom the guy who invented the pet rock is a multi-millionaire to this day he glued googly eyes to rocks and made Millions
think about that
Lugermonger Why are you even telling me this? I have a pet rock, that's it lol
The black one (too lazy to find the name) has a vital flaw. All those holes make it VERY week in the handle. The force of using it on a normal basis causes the holes to crack around the edge, eventually snapping
I bet u that the tf2 spy subed 😂
Just got my first in the mail today and from what I can tell, so far so good.
Boo Hoo, My parents won't let me get a Balisong because I could cut myself. Don't bother commenting these types of comments lol. It's too cringy.
@@bobafett215x lol I actually started tf2 coz of balisong.
Matt Giberson no pal it's the law. It's not allowed in my country
The only man that is allowed to bring a knife to a gun fight
yeah but also 300$ for butterfly knife is insanity :)
Марио Петров eh... they're made with high quality materials and will last forever. some of them are very much worth the price
Марио Петров no not really. In the knife world, $300 isn't that expensive
Crazy Bad Flipping in general 300 dollars is a pretty big amount of money. You can buy a 55 inch tv with that
Keians Tourette's in general but not in the knife world.... like I said
Crazy Bad Flipping so what, 800? 1000 dollars for a good balisong? lol my £16 lasted 6 months already. im sure a 300 or 400 dollar one would last decades.
If you are a knife collector.. own a traditional Batangas Balisong called "Bente Nueve" or "29" (its 29cm).. it has a handle made from carabao horns or deer antlers and sometimes from kamagong "bahi" wood (also used as arnis-kali stick material)...
5:55 imma beat it up hahahaha
used to buy these in bulk in poland and sell across the border
Icetek?
Jonathan Thompson I just scrolled through their website so that's honestly the only experience I have but they seem to be constructed like this silver one I have here a lot of small parts and they may not be constructed to the high standards so I wouldn't recommend for heavy flipping but for casual flipping tune it as needed and Loctite all of the screws should be okay
for collecting heck yeah whatever makes you happy is the shit
Obviously, it isn't a great quality knife, but, it was good to learn with---cut the shit outta myself, but, it was my first Balisong.
i almost went to go buy the 1st balisong knife i find on the internet, but this vid caught my eye.
Bruhh I was at a shop like 2 days ago and they had a balisong, i wanted to try it out and when i opened it i cut myself
IT WAS A FECKING DOUBLE BLADED BALISONG
Mine was screwed together. At some point the screw droped out and I never found it again. Fun times. I miss it and the cuts.
press f to inspect weapon.
I bought a trainer for 3$ and it works amazing it only recently went loose and just had to screw it and I was using it pretty intensely
I'm 13 and I have 3 butterfly knives , "not dangerous at all."
Alfonso Mendez great fucking job
Same
The black 1 for 11 bucks is better. U can hammer the pins to tighten it up and mushroom them so they lock and it is a really good knife. Although I took the pins out and stuck my 1095 steel
blade in it and put new pins in
bk is a company that makes low quality knives, i have a butterfly comb from them and it fell apart in less than 3 days.
What happened to your thumb 🤢
He smashed it on something. Probably that shitty balisong.
That cheap black one remind me of the 80's if you had one of those you were a badass..
I bought a balisong for $11 and it has lasted for a year and with no complaints.
I'm looking to get my first one so hopefully I can get a good one and not scar up my in the process learning some tricks.
John N heck yeah that's good stuff thank you
John N what is the law on balisongs in Mexico are they legal to carry
balisong is in a "legal vacuum" in Mexico, since its use is not regulated, it is very easy to acquire one in any market, although it is a weapon, this is not illegal unless you walk with it in your pocket and check it police or ocupes for something like a steal or hurt someone, meanwhile no problem with them in Mexico alone could be considered illegal knives display that are made to combat or to hurt, is something not regulated in this country
