Nasi kerabu is from Kelantan which is one out of 14 states in Malaysia. I guess what you had in this video is very basic one. To grade it fairly, you should come to Kelantan or at least look for other Kelantanese who sells this dish. It should be served with 'keropok @ fish chips', 'solok lada @ big green chilli stuffed with fish's fillet+coconut' and salted duck egg @ telur masin.. And that's what nasi kerabu should be.. The other 'lauk @ protein' you could add on is grilled beef/mutton/chicken and not to forget coated fried fish.. I hope both of you will be able to try this delicious and herbal dish but quite underrated.. Be safe and enjoy your stay ☺️

What Malaysia has and I love are called Kopitiams or Kopi Kadai's, Basically one individual owns a building and they serve simple breakfast fares like kaya toast and 1/2 boiled eggs as well as coffee and tea. Then they lease out small areas of their building to other vendors and anywhere from 2 - god knows how many vendors will be in there, all making something different. Yes, you are right. Coconut by itself is sweet or sweetish. But salt (just a bit..)is almost always added to coconut or any coconut product like santan, even in sweet cakes. This is like a rule in local cooking. Salt is used to 'bring out the creamy sweetness of our dish'
