    warning !! you guys are having waaaaaaay too much fun in Malaysia !!! you are letting Malaysia get under your skin and then you will be hooked for life, both my wife and i did the same mistake !! we lived in thailand and spent alot of time in Cambodia, Loas, Vietnam, Indonesia and then we spent some time in Kuala Lumpur and that was the end of us !! we were blown away on how super friendly the people are !! the country is sooooooooo beautiful, the food is out of this world, they set the standard so high that once you goto another country you start to compare it to Malaysia ! ( it has been 10 years since we have been to Malaysia ) but we miss it everyday and talk about it often, we even tried a Malaysian restaurant called " papa rich " but the food was never as good as going to Malaysia !, these days we both have our own businesses and we work way too much to have time to back, but the good thing is that the Malaysian government gives semi retirement visas to over 55 years old ! and i am 52 !! 3 more years and we will sell everything up and move to Malaysia, as Australia has become way over priced, over governed, full of silly rules and laws. LONG LIVE MALAYSIA !!, three years and counting !!

      Kampung Baru is an area designated by d British as a reserved Malay area in KL. D ownership n title of d land in this village is entirely for d Malay, gazzetted by d Malaysian law. D price of land has soared up so high to d extent that it's very challenging for d federal govt to create a feasible new masterplan for redevelopment.

    Most people who are not used eating with their hand get themselves messy because they use both hands.

    As slow and laid back as kampung baru is, it has produced many notable Malaysians. (grew up there myself 😁).
    The landowners there are still to this day being subject to a lot of pressure to sell those land (to high end developers of course). For many years now both carrot (from the developers) and stick (from the govt) approaches have been employed to get the owners to sell. Sadly, many have. But many thankfully are still steadfast, because they don't need the money - they're quite well off or comfortable and their younger generations are successful etc (my family has some land there and we are NOT selling 🙂)

    Bakso is Indonesian in Origin but there is a local twist... In Malaysia we love our toppings compared to the Original Indonesian version...
    Mee = Noodles...
    There is the Kampung Bahru Development Corporation.... the blocks / challenges to Development are:
    a. The Land has a Malay Reserve status... can only be bought and sold by Malays;
    b. Land is owned over generations and have not been administered/ estate/ probate over layers and layers of generations... thus difficult or even impossible to proceed development...
    Wanjo is ok-ish... made for tourist or all Malaysians... and not necessarily spicy enough for many people... 😂😂😂❤

    The issue of kg baru under threat of redevelopment is contingent on its status as a Malay Reserve land, a colonial law legacy that was part of the British administrative management where both European attitudes on native cultures outside Africa (exotification/preservation) dovetailed with local rulers' political incentives - so in exchange of the right to extract resources and govern the then foreign labour, local elites were given some concessions that kept their cultural leadership, one of them being these parcels of land. something similar with Irish landowner elite working with the british. Grandfathered into the post-independence land code, the biggest 'headache' to those looking to develop these prime real estate is the fact the status of ownership basically denies the local council to do the usual thing like seizing the land under eminent domain and providing residents compensation. It's politicized because the area represents a Malay political issue (despite the fact the area is known territory towards naturalization for recent indonesian migrant labour - you'll note most of those you met are probably at most first-gen Malaysians - but they get folded into being categorised as Malay), and so despite the fact the biggest most motivated actors to develop the land is the Malay establishment/business class, it gets presented as another way the chinese are 'stealing' the land. Despite the fact the chinese middle class of KL have already suffered from their own eviction (most of the MRTs you see in central KL are built on lands seized via ED/similar code)

  • @NikZafriAbdulMajid

    Actually there used to be lots of "kampung" (village) oriented areas in Kuala Lumpur up to the early 2000. But "thanks" to the fast paced development and past "bureaucracy", many villages started to dissapear in the name of modernization.
    Historically speaking, Kampung Baru was established in 1899 by a grant from the then-Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah, to allow the Malays to retain their village lifestyle within the city. Thus, all proposals of development must be granted by the current HRM Sultan of Selangor provided that it follows the rules of sustainable-development by retaining the traditional elements of the village.
    It is a very historical place that have witnessed many historical events (you can read the rest in Wikipedia)
    About the food.
    Bakso actually originated from our neighbouring country - Indonesia. Kampung Baru; like many kampungs in Malaysia; has been a host to many Indo-Malay (Mixed Marriage) even PR from Indonesia. The food from Indonesia has been passed down for generations in Malaysia. You can find many types of Bakso especially in the State of Johor.
    I've been watching your videos ever since you arrived in Kuala Lumpur. I really thought that the comments on the food are amazing - more like a food critic - very elaborate. However I am glad that you enjoy the food and I also love the comments from your other fans. It is refreshing to see your interest in blending into the vibes of traditional villages.
    The Kampung Baru residents are having no problems being surrounded by Kuala Lumpur - as every night, you will see how crowded Kampung Baru is making it so lively at night. People from all walks of life will come here just to chill out, eat good food and drink.
    Alternatively, if you ever get bored of KL, you should also try some other interesting locations outside but near Kuala Lumpur for example if you're travelling to Batu Caves or Gombak, you can also try places like Sri Gombak/Prima Sri Gombak (which is around 1.5km away from Batu Caves) Alternatively Ampang, or Klang (which is quite far - you need to take a train (KTM Komuter) to Pelabuhan Klang).
    Of course, it is recommended that you research the places you're going in advance. There are quite a number of hidden gems like rich nature - forest reserve, waterfalls, rivers, you name it - if you are the adventurous explorer type.
    But when you're travelling outside KL, it is advisable to limit your visit up to 8.30 pm as most of the shops/restaurants (not all) are closed quite early. (Then of course there is Grab and LRT Stations) unless you're planning to lodge a night or so in the budget hotels.
    Have fun guys.

    Semoga Malaysia Terus meningkat berbagai Parawisata Budaya kaum Pribumi.. bila Perlu buat *Festival Malaysia Native Culture* sehingga nampak perpaduan kaum kaum pribumi malaysia menyatu.😊
    Semoga Malaysia mempertahankan identitas Jati Diri budaya Nasionalisme😊😊
