    Hi Nick. I am just enjoying my new grinder. I like it so much, you did amazing job! There is only one little annoying part, the plastic lid of the grind's cup that is kind of shaking around. Is there any plan for upgrade, for example wit some magnetic lid in future to avoid dropping off and shaking?

    Great job on the upgrades, I did get mine with installed SSP burrs, I like clarity with light roasts like most African beans, or natural and honey processed. My brews are outstanding. I would be happy with the Gen2 burrs for my office which I will get eventually. That said, improved Hopper and anti-static are great, I rehomed my Gen1 because it was so messy. And now I don't have to push my beans down inside the grinder. I never use oily beans in my grinders and I still had the sliding bean problem. Kudos to you for this most excellent grinder

    With the Gen 2, what is a good go-to grind size for the Moccamaster. Just ordered a Gen 2 to go with my new Moccamaster. I’ve never had a high quality grinder or machine before.

      Hey man, really late to this video since I just was watching it for a reference point when I upgraded by Gen 1 burrs to the Gen 2. As a fellow Moccamaster user, know that firstly, the Moccamaster is SUPER forgiving in the cup. It excels at getting a really thick body that's rich in the more savory flavors out of a coffee which is compounded by the gen 2 burrs. In my experience, brewing a liter at 60g/L, I would recommend around a 6-7 on the dial of the grinder. Granted, I don't know if Fellow changed the thread pitch between the Gen 1 and 2, meaning the same burr may fall in a different range on each, but in my experience that makes really solid tasting coffee. Bear in mind the Moccamaster favors a coarser grind compared to pour-over or other batch brewers, like the Ratio, mostly due to its flow characteristics with the single hole at the bottom of the basket.
      For big batch brews, I'm big on anaerobic process high-altitude South American coffees, especially Bolivia and Colombia. If that sounds like your cup of coffee, then I hope this steers you in the right direction! I would also say that lower doses also taste great and can bring out some of the florals more, like a 50g/L cup can still taste great.

    Just received my Gen 2 grinder and bought it with the upgraded SSP MP burrs. I had the gen 1 grinder when I began my journey into the pour over world. So graduating up to the Gen 2 with the upgraded SSP MP burrs is like skipping the Masters degree, bypassing the PHD student courses, and jumping right into PHD candidacy! Indeed it was a big jump for me, but so overjoyed with the user index in terms of the grind settings. Where I used to go as low as #3 with certain beans, now I can turn it all the way to 11 (or 33) and get the same coarseness. Which opens me up to a world of finer grind settings for lighter roasts. The flavors I’m experiencing from roasts I’ve used before is beyond words!!! I had no idea how much flavor was hiding inside some of these roasts! I’m having so much fun exploring more recipes with these new finer grinds. A huge new user index!
    Extremely satisfying!
    John.

    I bought an ode grinder for $400 dollars and the motor died after using twice a day for two years. 1 year warranty. Fellow did not offer parts to fix or repair. Best they could do was 10% off another expensive grinder of theirs. I have a Baratza that tastes just as good- much better in fact when everytime I look at the broken fellow I think of how they got $400 out of me for a 2 year grinder. The Baratza has lasted me seven years and I can buy parts to easily fix, so tbh that alone makes me wayyy happier everytime I use it!! Fellow is hype imo and a good way to send your money to a company overcharging you for poorer quality than other brands.

    Will the newly designed more freely flowing feed hopper that the Gen 2 Ode comes with be availible as a retrofit for the Gen 1 Ode? I hope so becasue now that I've installed the Gen 2 burrs in my Gen 1 Ode, the only thing that doesn't work as well as I'd like it to on the machine is the feed hopper. I have to repeatedly smack the side of the grinder with the palm of my hand as it's grinding, to make sure that all the beans drop down into the grinding chamber.
    Thanks.

    hu Nick, Is Cafiza tablets the best for cleaning Ode v2 and if its not what tablets you recommend ?

    • @FellowProducts
      @FellowProducts  Рік тому +1

      Hi Mohammad! We recommend Urnex Grindz™ grinder cleaning tablets. These are designed to prevent clogging by freeing coffee particles stuck to the burrs and
      absorbing/removing odors and coffee oil residue.
      To use the tablets, make sure all beans are run through your
      grinder by running it for 10-20 seconds. Use the cleaning tablet
      instructions to place appropriate amount into grinder. Adjust the
      grind setting to 11 and press the power button to run the grinder.
      Grind all of the tablets into the catch. Once complete, we
      recommend grinding approximately 30 g coffee to remove any tablet
      residue. Discard the ground tablets/coffee from the catch and clean.

      @BBB_025 Рік тому +1

      Hi Yukiko,
      Fellow has another video on installing the gen2 burrs in an Ode. That video talks about calibrating the dial numbers so that dial setting 1 is just off of the burr touch point.
      You could probably use this calibration procedure but calibrate the dial setting so that setting 1 is much further from the burr touch point.
      That way, your grind settings will be much coarser than the factory calibration and you can test if your settings are coarse enough for your pour over brews.
      You might have to do some trial and error with your calibration to see how far from touch point at setting 1 to find the grind size adjustment range you are happy with for your pour overs

    • @BBB_025
      @BBB_025 Рік тому +1

      @@yukikomurakami9727 I think it makes sense to recalibrate after seasoning, but you should probably be good unless the grinder gets damaged ( like maybe a rock in your bag of beans). Maybe just give it some thought every 6-12 months? If you are happy with the grind then I don’t think you need to recalibrate. Especially since you are not calibrating to burr touch you will have trouble consistently calibrating your grinder, so I wouldn’t touch the calibration when you are happy with the results

      Clean your grinder thoroughly, buy an aeropress or a gooseneck kettle (if you don't have one) and a v60 and try some lighter coffees. I've converted many dark roast drinkers. Nothing wrong with darker roasts but if they're extremely oily they're either too dark IMO or they're stale and were roasted several weeks/months ago.

    • @danielcohn6884
      @danielcohn6884 Рік тому +1

      That's not what the grinder is designed to be. They're filling a niche, single dose market for coffee enthusiasts. Cold brew is frowned upon by most specialty enthusiasts (not to yuck your yum, but it's just poorly extracted oxidized coffee) and it's not that sensitive to grind size. Get a cheap burr grinder with a meta hopper for that, or grind a bag relatively course at your local coffee shop.

    What is the difference in the auger/rotational burr carrier--gen 1 v. 2? Is the gen 2 ode auger/carrier designed to be retrofitted to the original ode? Fellow's site says gen 1 auger is not compatible with gen 2 ode.

    • @nickterzulli8912
      @nickterzulli8912 Рік тому +1

      The Gen 2 auger has updates so the burrs always sit on the correct face. It also has some tolerance updates for better fitment. The Gen 1 auger can fit into a Gen 2, but the Gen 2 is a bit better. This is why we recommend keeping them separate.

    Not exactly a complaint but I have noticed that the antistatic piece has a way of pulling grinds to it and retaining those via, what appears to be, static. When you bump the grinder or brush the antistatic tool, tons of extra coffee comes out.

    • @nickterzulli8912
      @nickterzulli8912 Рік тому +3

      The exit chute needs to be cleaned periodically to maintain the best performance. Unfortunately fine coffee particles tend to get everywhere, and the more fines migrate to the anti-static pins the more it can impact the static reduction. I already got a Comandante C40 and I've being getting really nice results in my brews, lot of body and sweetness, maybe not clarity. I imagine that the Gen2 Burrs are going to be similar to the Comandante results right? With the same forgiveness that Nick says. While the MPs are going to be harder to dial and analytical with coffee beans/roasting defects, right? If the Gen2 Burrs are similar to the results in the Comandante C40 but maybe a little better, it could be worth it to install those MPs for real different options at my kitchen.
    Are the MPs going to be consistent if the brew technique is also consistent? Maybe it's just that I'm still missing to taste that cup with extreme clarity. If the MPs are worth the try and clarity is achievable on 1 from 3 brews, I think it would be worth to keep them.
    Anyone has compared the flavor profile on these 2 burrs sets against a Comandante C40 and maybe also the hassle to achieve good cups?

      I got a gen 2 with gen 2 burrs.
      I like the taste better than my with comandante.
      Like nick said they are less fussy, each to get a really good coffee

      I own a comandante C40 MK4 and really like it, however part of me wonders if I would prefer the ODE Gen 2 or the new coming up Opus so I'll wait for reviews on that and then ponder even more 😂

      SSP is the name of a company from South Korea that makes burrs for coffee grinders

    In a one year old video by James Hoffman (ua-cam.com/video/7QYlExoEpvA/v-deo.html), he discusses the danger of adding SSP burrs to the Ode since the motor wasn't spec'd to use them. If the Ode Gen 2 still uses the same motor, but can come with SSP burrs, wouldn't the same concern about longevity apply?

      We wouldn't sell Ode with SSP burrs if the combination was not compatible. We calibrate the SSP burrs to be 5 clicks off of burr touch from the factory so that espresso is not possible out of the box. Grinding for filter coffee is just fine.

      @@nickterzulli8912 Thanks for the detail about the Ode SSPs initial calibration, I'd assumed all the grinders were shipped one click up from touch. Given the variations present with the different grinder configurations that Fellow offers, it does bring up a "Wish List" item I have for Fellow if they get around to it. What would be great is a comparison chart of what the factory calibrations are from Fellow for the 3 common versions of Ode + Burr configurations, a correlation guide for each grinder to the other (Click 3 on Ode G2 = Click 3.4 on Ode G2 w/ SSP = Click 2.1 on Ode G1 etc.), and a micron specification guide for each grinder configuration that could be used as reference in conjunction with something like the Kruve Brewler. This reference data would be tremendous for the home brewer as we're trying to dial in various brew device and recipes. Currently I'm working on finding the right settings for Hario V60 and comparing the Ode G2 and the Ode G2 w/SSP to find the one that tastes the best for my coffees. BTW, love the design and features of the Ode Gen 2, the updates from Gen 1 are very much appreciated!

    it's very frustrating that all those who purchased a Gen 1 have burrs that don't grind fine enough for a V60. I know you have rectified this but it sucks for all the early buyers. You should do something for those who purchased the Gen 1.

      They sold the Gen2 burrs to early backers at a HEAVILY discounted price. And then extended the discount as well.
      Not sure if they gave backers free burrs or not. But they went out of their way fur early backers
