- It's no secret that Justin is a big fan of anything topless. So, it comes as no surprise that he's a fan of the small, wicked Fiat 500 Abarth convertible. Perfectly suited for the California coast, Justin introduces the Italian immigrant to its newest home and playground while reminiscing about the storied heritage of its mastermind, Karl Abarth.

after watching many reviews I finally decided to get one and I haven't regretted it for a second. Very fun car, really good warranty and it gives plenty of smiles :D
Dead pedal? My 2002 Toyota Echo has a deadpedal. My wife has a deadpedal. My wife is post-op.
Heheheheheh! I love your videos......... Trolling too!
Now this guy is a reviewer. Great review.
What was that wink for?
This guy is the chef Ramsay of Automobiles.
Why are people ripping on this review? This guy goes over the engine specs, the design changes, the interior design, the driving feel, and even background history on Karl Abarth and Fiat. For a video under 7 minutes, it actually does a good job at giving you a quick and thorough glimpse of the car...
Can't believe he never mentions the exhaust. That car sounds amazing! I heard a car, thought it was a highend super car and then this car pulls up. It really does sound pretty sick!
I have to continually remind myself that Justin Bell is a former race car and driver, and commentator whenever I watch these videos. I am not sure how much leverage he has in the script and production of this series, but I KNOW he is capable of so much more.
Very detailed ,especially the turbo. Nice vid.
I guess what I was trying to say was in a manual car, not many smaller cars have dead pedals (obviously nearly all automatics do). Therefore, my point was that its attention to detail is something you would more likely find in a sports car.
JB
I do have a dead pedal in my super slow GLK250 diesel.
My show is actually about cars I want to and like to drive. We are called 'the Fastest Car Show' because it only lasts a few minutes! But it is hard to argue against cars like the Fiat 500 Abarth as NOT being leaders and among the fastest cars in their market segments. Which makes them amazing vehicles to drive and completely worthy of coverage on my show and the MT You Tube Channel.
JB
Phew...thank you! Despite what some might think, a lot of thought has gone into these shows and we (like lots of shows) will evolve and get better.
JB
wonderful video good job
Thanks, but actually the show is all ours. No one else has any creative input into each show other than our small production team. I personally thought that the Karl Abarth story was pretty compelling, but I appreciate your input and look out for more 'me' in future shows.
JB
awesome review, keep up the good work!
Love this series
Fantastic review....beautiful machine too....
Great video!!
The real deal here from someone who OWNS one as a daily driver:
1) Lift the HEAD REST and you'll see how it doesn't poke your shoulders. Also remove the head rest and there you go, folds down perfectly.
2) Straight line is very good for take off, sure it's not that good at high speeds cause A- remember it's a "1.4" (it's actually more of a 1.3, it's 1350cc)...
Love the Fiat. Excellent video.
Good to see Justin is taking in feedback, and I am confident this will be one of the best car shows on youtube!
Kudos to JB for answering comments and being receptive of suggestions. Liked your input in the 2011 Best Driver's Car segment, even if you didn't pick my car, hah. Good video, I like the 'quick and dirty' video format, it gets straight to the point on all the key points. In other reviews, I sometimes feel they drag things out and wish they would get on with it.
Looking forward to more videos in this series/format.
Had mine for a few months now. Still pleased as punch every time I drive it. Its not really reasonable I know, and of course there are some shortfalls, but for some reason this car is a lot of fun. Being in an area with a very harsh winter we will see how it deals now that it has a proper set of winter tires mounted.
Mine does well in snow.
I REALLY REALLY WANT THIS CAR!
Awesome little car, and an awesome little webisode! It's got so much character in such a small package. I can imagine it would be pretty fun around something like a go kart track too ;-)
This guy is good. Amazing review. He did a great job on this video. I just love it.
Great vid
Great review, the suit is a nice touch.
Can't really help but feel that he's a presenter on a car show, not a car guy running his own show. You know?
Good video and great little car, I would more than glad to own one of these.
Really felt like I was watching an ad...
Am i the only one who's liking the presenter? He did a good job!
BRAVO, thanks for adding color to a car review, quite refreshing. Keep it up!!!
I really like little hot hatches, and the Abarth is one of my favourite.
Great comments and obviously, when possible, we are always trying to evolve. My only defense would be that we are less of a review show and more of an adventure/ experience/ lifestyle show and we try and stay in the moment with that specific vehicle. But good suggestions and keep an eye out!
JB
the dead pedal, often referred to as a footrest, is located to the left of the other pedals. Unlike the throttle, brake or clutch pedal, the dead pedal does not move and is not connected to anything. The dead pedal can serve several important purposes:
It acts as a foot rest for the left foot, for the comfort of the driver.
In cars with manual transmissions, it helps keep the driver from riding the clutch.
It helps brace the driver whilst performing extreme maneuvers.
Jay Leno bought a abarth turbo, good enough for me.
Much better job here on this video. This is the format (I am sure) this show was missing.
Keep up the good job and leave the past videos behind.
The show format isn't intended to be a car review. Pulled directly from the description of the trailer MT posted a few weeks ago:
As Bell describes it, "We leave the proper car reviews to the other guys. We only drive the cars we love in the most spectacular locations and have a lot of fun doing it."
Great Job Justin on this one loved the information you gave on the car and how it feels to drive I do wish that the music in the background wasn't there the exhaust note on this car sound better than that. And yes it is hard to not wanna drive my car like a lil hooligan everytime I get in it .
Wow, I luv that little car! :)
me 2!
Drove it once and the little fucker bounced when I changed gears at full throttle haha I love this thing
These videos are a work in progress. This one is informative it just needs to touch on the bad sides of cars as well. Still nice bid and can't wait to see more.
Cool video.
The new presenter does a really good job! Want to see more from Justin.
Awesome. If the first one didn't have any real content and the second was a little hollow too, this is spot on. Enough details, driver impressions and of course speed :).
This was a great 7 minute commercial.
Love this car!!!
Justin is getting better. This was better.
Well done.
very imformational....... i really like this show and dont know why yall do not
I think its fair to say this car doesn't appeal to the US market but its quite popular in the UK right now.
Great vid for a great car, my next car in fact!!!
cool clip
Thanks Miguel. My 1997 Fiat Brava had one. My 1998 Mazda 626 SW had one. My 2000 Opel Astra had one. And my 2005 Nissan Lafesta has one. Nothing new then.
Even with your highly expensive educational system, you're still writing USD after the number instead of NOK... to take into account the currency conversion, like a genius.
I would just ignore the knuckle-draggers on youtube. I own an Abarth (non-cabrio) and think your review successfully conveyed what it's like to drive and own one of these cars without becoming mired in negative minutia regarding the cars faults.
Hahaha...I can't write exactly what I said, but it was kind of a 'whaaampfffBop'
JB
This show is awesome to care what anyone says
I think you guys made a mistake there, it is not 230,000rpm when the turbo kicks in, it is 2300 rpm.
ive never seen a dash cam so close to the drivers man
Digging the car and the series. If your thinking Fiat spring for the Abarth. Sounds like you'll be glad you did.
I hired a standard 1.4 100bhp model on holiday it was a lovely car to drive and look at, very cute
My 2007 Honda Civic Si is apparently a super sports car. I did not know that!
Yea this host is awesome i loved it
And the turbo goês "buf"!!! Hahahaha
D- You did know that this engine has been around since 2007 in Italy (same engine as Fiat Punto EVO Abarth) and has had no issues right?
Its like a mini cooper and a smart car combine
i like this little car
Its usually referred to as a "dead clutch pedal" and it is on most all vehicles to the left of the brake or live clutch pedal (if there are 3 pedals)
I agree but you have to keep in mind it is harder then you think. Most car reviewers are pure english majors so they can describe the car in a way that is pleasing to the viewer to hear. He actually raced cars so he at least gives a different view of things when he is talking about cars. If you think he's that bad just go watch the other reviewers episodes and skip his. It's obvious he is trying.
Well done making this thing sound like a good car. I'm sure its fun to drive compared to a Prius but when comparing it to its competition, it falls short. The (downforce inducing) spoiler coming off the soft top is hysterical.
I feel like I just watched a Fiat-sponsored ad aimed at 15-year old permit-holders.
You should buy a car that is appropriate for where you live and how you are going to use it. An Escalade would be a drag in New York City, but a small nimble Fiat 500 would be perfect.
The 500 would be good for the narrow curvy roads in the Bluegrass region. I have read that it is comfortable for the long haul too.
Fab show loved it! Love Justin Bell's look. It's nice to watch some one with a bit of style and not some vanilla person in jeans and a t-shirt or button down. His sarcasm is hilarious but I do feel sorry for all the mixed up people that don't get it.
Flattery will get you everywhere Tobu!
when I said high performance i meant "real" high performance. the Abarth is a 160hp engine while a Ferrari or Lambo or Porsche are way over 300-400 hp and can benefit from real spoilers and diffusers at a track, that's high performance. Heck, my 335i doesn't have a spoiler, front or back and it's a 300hp car, haven't needed it at the track either so i'm not sure how you can say the Abarth's toy spoilers will actually useful at preventing the car from lifting at high speeds.
It loos lovely.
I think it is a foodrest. Also I think every car has it, not only supercars as he said.
Put the guy on a track, thats what he does, no more airplane boneyards, death valley or even the streets the guy is a proven racecar driver. I want to see monstrous power slides on a track!!!
@THIS VIDEO WAS SO MUCH BETTER. THIS SHOW IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ANOTHER IGNITION WHERE WE SIT FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES LISTENING TO A REVIEW OF THE CAR INSTEAD IT IS LIKE A SPEED UP VERSION OF THAT WHICH WAS SO MUCH BETTER :-)
the reason it might seem boring is because im used to hearing their opinions on the vehicles.
Ah that makes more sense. You're right, they don't mention the bars at which the turbo runs and unless they can gives a range of engine rpm that the turbo spools up, that stat is pointless.
3) Suspension is great, ever heard of Koni shocks? As for real torsion beam, you should know it works better on small short wheel based hatches than individual suspension does.
And as for the turbo comment you made earlier A- It's a very good Garrett turbo, B- Chrysler implemented a system that spools down the turbo and keeps the water running through it when u shut it down, C- car has been tested and temps run fine even without inter coolers, and...
A pedal without life....
JB
Bell is a racing driver not a journalist or actor and it shows. I liked the actual reviewing in this episode and it wasn't unbearably cheesy but Justin needs to drop the 007 suit gag.
i wish so car host would understand the difference between a bov and a wastegate
cuz i am subscribed
Wow one of you guys finally got it! Yes Sarcasm...it's a type of humour. You kind of have to get sarcasm to be able to watch.
This guy sure does talk fast.
Fiat CEO actually calls it a hot rod...
My 5 series has a "dead pedal" (some call it a foot rest)... Wait a minute! I own a supercar!
Ive driven the Abarth. The things that could be fixed.
1. Seat height is too high
2. Sport button shouldnt turn off after the car shuts off.
3. The gear shift cage is designed really close. Quick shifts will make you go from 2nd to 5th gear quite frequently.
4. Too bad the Abarth model must have the luxury/tech package.
That is all I can think of really. Its an excellent car and despite me being 6'5'', I can fit in it well.
I'm 6'5“ and I fit just fine with plenty of leg and head room. Nobody can sit behind me but that is fine with me
He's getting better as a reviewer but that felt an awful lot like a 6 min commercial
A pedal rest (dead pedal) is in almost EVERY manual car. Some autos have them, not all.
Nice car and review. Only dig is that after going to Fiat's website and pricing one of these out the MSRP is about $30K.... Too much to ask for a small car.
Turbo kicks in at 270,000 rpm! Wow...lol
It's like a footrest to the left of the clutch (manual) or brake (automatic). It looks like a pedal but does nothing, it's just for comfort.
Not even close. The BASE WRX with D&D is about $27K. My BASE Abarth was just under $22K. In fact, out-the-door was only $23.6K. The WRX would be about $30 out-the-door. $6.5K is not a small amount of money.
