Love the heating trick, will do that when I rebuild my pedalboard! Won't use the strips technique though, as it means fixed positions for pedals. Instead, I take 3 long strips that I paste across the pedalboard - and then put velcro on matching heights on the pedals. This way I can easily swap pedals later without caring if velcro on the pedalboard will match.
Great tip. If I may add, you can also apply the hair dryer method when removing the velcro strip from the bottom of the pedal and not ruin any of the serially number stuff or leave any adhesive gunk on the pedal (that is, if a few peeps are considering to resell their pedals). Cheers!
Thanks for the recommendation! Probably worth mentioning: clean the pedal with rubbing alcohol first to clean the surface well prior to putting on Velcro.
I don't have a personal use for the hair dryer either lol. Thanks for showing this as I'm about to build my first real pedalboard, this is invaluable!!! 1/21/23 Edit: The pedalboard is built, just have to finish the power wiring underneath. Turned out better than I expected! Fender Pro Medium with Fender LVL8 PSU.
Great tip. I have a big problem removing my pedals from the board as the velcros stay on the board and unstick on all my pedals. Will try this. But first I need to borrow a hair dryer too 😀
3M Dual Lock is the only way to go. Grab a big roll for $15-20 at the big box home stores or order some on Amazon. I tried this method months ago with my PedalTrain board and (insert raspberry sound). Dual lock is the stuff man.
Thanks for this excellent tip! I've always been disappointed with adhesive velcro on pedalboards, because when you're on the road and carrying them in a bag/case in the summer heat, some pedals would often droop their way off the board as the adhesive would give way. Seems like heating it properly when first adhering it might solve this problem.
I'm gonna have to look for the Big Joe pedals demo. I actually have a few of their pedals. They're built like tanks and the few i have are pretty versatile.
You can also pan extra piece into the depressed section if you need the extra grip. Use it all the time, but have used super glue as an extra tool, your way I more better!
I wish I had seen this a couple years back, when I hand built my own pedalboard! I put the loop side on the pedals, and covered the entire 18mm thick pine board with the hook side. I can tell you, once you put a pedal there you need a screwdriver to peel it off again... This though looks so much cleaner and easier to do and work with. Thank you for the tips, Phil!
Personally, I prefer the hook side on the board. Not only do the pedals hold on tighter, but it's easier to clean the crud that eventually builds up (hair and other odd things that find their way to floor ect...).
I want someone to make a pedal board where the base is basically a screen. That way you could thread zap straps around your pedals and wouldn't have to mess up your pedals with velcro that loosens up or have to remove rubber feet. I don't know why it wouldn't work or why somebody hasn't thought of it.
I'm in South Florida and nothing works here. I have a pedaltrain and even tried 3m sticky spray after they all fell off. I'm gonna have to invent some other way
make the strips universal, the way youre doing it is for permanent placement. my pedalboard is a used piece of carpet stapled to an angled wooden board, with velcro on the pedals ;)
Does this also prevent pedals from sliding off the valcro ? I have a pedalboard case wich i stand up to save space in the room, and the pedals slid off the valcro, will this prevent that ?
I would recommend not placing the velcro over the label on the back of any pedal. If you ever want to sell the pedal its better to remove the velcro and the label may come off with it.
Yeah my Velcro always comes off when I remove pedals.. How well does this work? Does it actually solve the problem? I have to redo my board!😎thx ..& no "why do u own a hair dryer?" jokes, damn! Too late!
Not everyone has a hair dryer, I never had any issue applying velcro by giving a firm pressure. Appreciate the tip but it's just blowing hot air. How do a video right way to Remove Velcro
I know this comment is 5 years after you put this video up but thank you. I am building my first pedal board and you showed me exactly what I needed.
Love the heating trick, will do that when I rebuild my pedalboard!

Very helpful tip 👍
so true and a great way to keep it ready for modifications later .

The funniest part of this video is that you own a hair dryer.
He borrowed it
fan provided. lol
"bald faced liar" probably would have been wittier....
He has lots of hair, just not on his head...
it came with his pedalboard
Thanks for the recommendation! Probably worth mentioning: clean the pedal with rubbing alcohol first to clean the surface well prior to putting on Velcro.
I use painter tape to protect the label sometimes.
awesome idea, trying this out soon
No bald jokes from me man, you're a cool dude. Really enjoy the material you release here!
Thanks ! I'm building my 1st pedal board now. You're a money and time saver Phil.

Thanks, building my 1st pedalboard and found this very helpful.
Every time I watch your channel, I learn something new. Thank You!
Great tip. I have a big problem removing my pedals from the board as the velcros stay on the board and unstick on all my pedals. Will try this. But first I need to borrow a hair dryer too 😀
Used this tip today to finish* off my board. Thanks brother!

+1 for Dual Lock
Very good tip. Your method can also be used for other Velcro applications or other items that have pressure sensitive adhesive like double sided tape.
Great video and great idea about the glue on the Velcro. Nicely done.

I take sandpaper and rough up the surface where I am applying the adhesive that helps a lot
Brilliant...simple but important solution!!
Thank you so much.... I just re-did my whole board... this made it 100% better :)
Seriously, thanks for the excellent tip! I going to do this to my pedals right now! 😁
great video! you just answered a question for me as per the warmed up Velcro sticking to rubber.

Just about to build a board, so glad I saw this video first!

Damn, I wish I'd seen this 2 months ago b4 I finished my board!
Thanks for the video. I'll definitely be using this soon.

Check out Temple Audio and Holey Boards.
It worked better for me heating the back of the Velcro WITH the white backing paper still on. Much easier to apply Velcro straight.
You can heat up the glue AFTER sticking the velcro down, saving burning your hand!
Thanks
What about your BOSS pedals?
Thanks for the Pro tip. Would have been priceless if you started the vid in a big 80's hair band wig.
Good question. We'll done
Pretty cool tip! I'm going to be getting a pedalboard soon and I will use this tip for sure :) Will a heat gun work too or is that too much heat?
Heat gun is just a hair dryer on steroids.
Too much heat!
So I have zero pedals, I'm 6'4" and my name is Joe and people call me big Joe. So I have to get Big Joe pedals? I see the light!
This is great, thank you!
Great video. Helped me a lot. Thanks.
I live in South Florida and the velcro gets loose in the heat no matter what i do. I even sprayed 3M Adhesive on the velcro
"see how really nice and..... tight..... god damnit the sticker is fucking up my velcro!!" 3:05
I love this idea! Thanks for sharing!!!

Really awesome tip, thanks man.
Fantastic Phil!! Everyone e should see that!

can you get the velcro off with the hair dryer easily? Im trying to use a clamping mechanism type board (aclam), its cool and close but just curious.
Neat tip, should help taking it off as well.....then just use a little goo gone to get rid of any residue......thanks!
Good point, just get the glue tacky again to remove it #protip
I would recommend not placing the velcro over the label on the back of any pedal. If you ever want to sell the pedal its better to remove the velcro and the label may come off with it.
So you stick it too the board the glueside up?
Cool shirt. Is that from your store?
+jim leiss Yes, one cool thing we do is we never make the same shirt twice. so they are always different.
very smart!!
What did the bald man say when he received a comb as a gift? “Thanks! I’ll never part with it!!!” (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)
Good tip. Thanks
I see a lot of pedals for sale that will say "no velcro" Why? Is there a velcro and no velcro argument out there? What's the big deal?
Many times it ruins the label making the pedal harder to ID as to when it may have been actually built (chips, components, etc.).
That’s cool
Kojack's hairdryer? Why do people use velcro? It pulls the labels off the Boss units and then the serial number is gone!
I don’t use boss so it’s fine by me
Cat tongue side? Which side is that?
Genius!!
DIG IT!
they nee to make like slots for zip ties on the pedals them selves
Couldn't you use a little glue ?
But I don't have one of those fancy store-bought boards like that...
I'm using a plastic coca cola pallet I got from behind a store. Haha.
ns tips. tnx!)
Do a new revision on this phil.
Do you like your Big Joe Pedalboard?
Great vid but I wish he showed us doing all of his pedals, I still have popcorn in the bag!
Yeah my Velcro always comes off when I remove pedals..
How well does this work?
Does it actually solve the problem?
I have to redo my board!😎thx
..& no "why do u own a hair dryer?" jokes, damn!
Too late!
It doesn’t work with the velcro I have...
Not everyone has a hair dryer, I never had any issue applying velcro by giving a firm pressure.
Appreciate the tip but it's just blowing hot air. How do a video right way to Remove Velcro
Use a hair dryer.
Anybody ever tried hot clue gun? May be difficult to remove but not impossible
Today is Saturday...
You should said you were using a heat gun
It's a regular hairdryer!!
Laughing too hard to insert joke, but the intention was there!
Check out my DOG!!
