Honestly Daggerfall has the worst dungeons I've ever played in an RPG. They make no sense, are unnecessarily enormous, and you spend hours merely trying to find where to go/how to get back out. Aside from the start dungeon, I literally have only been able to do one other dungeon, despite attempting so many. Glad they don't generate them anymore.

Health is Red, Green, or Blue. Mana is Blue, Green, or Purple. Stamina is Green, Yellow, or White. Standards in gaming have changed a lot over the years. Red for health makes sense because blood = health, but mana and stamina? No reason for them to be whatever particular color. I think of magic as purple or green. Stamina makes sense to me as yellow, not green.
I think from a design standpoint using red green and blue makes sense because it’s easy colours to assign stuff to Also prime colours, so it makes sense instead of making a specific shade of say purple for mana

I really wish they still made games in this style. I actually really enjoy the pixelated art style of the original daggerfall. There's just something special about the classic fantasy art style and gameplay.
Theres something magical about old CRPGs like this. I enjoy the complexity compared to recent rpgs, but I realized the oldies are frustratingly hard. That and the dungeons in this game and others around the time are waay way too confusing to navigate
Daggerfall Unity has plenty of mods that can make the game look a lot better. D.R.E.A.M is the mod you want. I would also reccomend real grass and enchanced skies.
Not sure this counts but all three of you should give Wayward Realms a look. It's a game in the makes thats being worked on by the original creators of Daggerfall and from what I've seen in their discord server. They plan to make Daggerfall 2.0

When I played this I was a wandering knight going to various cities to slay the many bears and tigers that somehow found their way into the attics of so many homes in the Iliac Bay.
I finished DOS Daggerfall the other day. It’s VERY fun, but the Mantellan Crux almost softlocked me because of its general buginess. Had I not been playing a mage, it would have been literally impossible because the item meant to cast levitate on you wasn’t working. Despite this, my experience was overwhelmingly positive, and I didn’t have the same issues other people had with the dungeons. I actually used the map so finding hidden pathways wasn’t hard, except for that one for the unicorn horn.
Unity is amazing. Moldable to. Most of the mods just add more immersion and challenge. If you love Daggerfall, then DU will make you fall in love with Daggerfall all over again. Just beware, all the old character build exploits are fixed. No invulnerability to nearly everything with a Nord anymore.
i couldnt get into it, i get out of starting dungeon and get lost in first town i go into. find myself trying to steal something from a house, but dont realize how stealth works so i get caught by the guards even tho there is noone in the room. get into court, try to get myself out with lies, dont have good enough lying skill. etc... try to do a quest, get lost in a dungeon. i can see its great game but i cannot get into it

Daggerfall is better than I thought! Kind of like Doom or Wolfenstein 3D the fantasy version. I would have been into it if I'd known about it as a kid. But we didn't have the internet then so, the only way you knew about different games was from your mates!

I've always thought the dungeons felt realistic like would bandits take over a keep or have a elaborate tunnel system in some fuck off hole somewhere to ambush people in if needed. Although now that I think about it who keeps making these tunnels the bandits?

I can't remember if it was fully disconnected or not, but I did see some rooms that definitely were. yes, sometimes dungeon generates that quest is impossible to complete. and sometimes quest item/monster is in second room you get into unity port doesnt fix that as far as i know, because it uses same procedural generation

My brother downloaded this on our pc like ten years ago and I leveled up after killing the skeleton in the starting dungeon but then got stuck because I was like 7-8 and didn’t know how to navigate this games level up menu lmao
I notice there is a lot of people playing old games now, and lots of reviews of old movies. It would seem that what is being produced is of such crap quality we have all gone back 20 years to find worthwhile content. How sad.

I finished the original DOS Daggerfall a couple of years ago. Not the unity fan one, but the proper original. It was fun, rough but fun.
