Your video was right on time. I was in the market for a zipper closure, as all of my current binders are snap closures. I absolutely loooovvved one but the rings were only one inch and I'd planned to swap them out. Now I know that was a bad idea (and why) so I chose my another that I really like with the perfect 1.5 ring size. Best of all, got to use your link and discount code. Thank you!
I recently swapped out the rings in my Anna binder from 1.25” to 1.5” and it’s fantastic. It definitely works well with an open binder, and I completely agree with you that 1.5” is the sweet spot for carrying 3 months of 2 page per day pages along with starter pack tabs.
Hey. Which color Anna binder did you switch the rings? I heard the cognac Anna is sized smaller than the sailor blue and carmine red. I might try switching rings again. Did you have any trouble with the screws?
Thanks for sharing! My Franklin Covey came with 1.5 inch rings and when I tried to remove them, the hexagon screws were so tight that I stripped them. Hubby had to use a power drill to get them out. I was able to move them, but now I need to order new hexagon screws. ❤️🤗
OMG! I had a problem removing the screws too! I was able to remove one but had to get my husband to help with the other one. It was NOT easy. Just not worth messing with in my opinion, I'd rather buy a new binder with the size I need. Thanks for sharing your experience!
You really gave some good info in this video. I never realized what you mentioned about how those larger rings can affect the binder if it wasn’t made for that! 🤯
Thank you so much for explaining the planner rings. I think the sweet spot for my Franklin inserts is the same as yours. I appreciate this video so very much! Love, Jeanie
Hello Jeanie! I had a bad experience with changing rings but I want to do it again. Lol. Most of the FP binders come with 1.25 inch rings but I prefer 1.5 inch!
That's great advice since most folks don't take into account that larger rings means larger everywhere, and pages will be shoved out farther. I used Day-timer Malibus and tho the rings that come with it are only 1" , I've sized up to 1.33" with no trouble because the footprint of the binder is larger than the typical DT so taking the overall footprint and its flexibility (Mal's are unstructured tho not utterly floppy)as that can affect the fit as well. In the end however I returned to 1 inch rings because of how thick the spine got. I am a very petite woman, my hand the size of a kid's, so the larger rings meant a more uncomfortable grip for my small hand. Many of the 2inchers are designed with businessmen in mind so their generally larger hands would find that a better fit than thin ones. Another terrific and practical planner video, Tonya! Well done!
I should add that Day-timers are not designed to swap out rings like FC's are. I cut the screws free and made holes so I could fasten the next set into the binder with nuts and bolts. I actually like seeing the bolt heads on the spine, lol. I removed the rings from all my binders and made it so I can move between covers simply by moving the entire ring set instead of taking papers in and out. I can also carry the planner without any binder because my pagelifters are old punched covers from an ECLP I tried out in discount. I use a pen holder pouch with an elastic band to hold it closed that way. It's ncie when I want to take it out and space in my tote is tight.
Great video! I agree with your points. I use FC Compact planners without the zipper. So, when I exchange for larger rings, I'm OK when the tabs stick out past the edge of my binder. However, as you mentioned, I have noticed that when I upgrade to 1.5" rings, the binder does not close well in binders that have smaller spine areas. So, I drop down to 1.25".
Great observation on the spine width dimensions. That’s a detail I wasn’t aware of. I have fallen in love with using 1.5” rings, however most of my FC binders are 1.25”. I’m still on the fence about changing them.
Hi Tonya! Another great video! When I had watched your video where you changed the rings to the larger ones, I had thought about doing that, too. Now I'm glad I didn't. I really like the Ivy Simulated planner - unfortunately, I have a Compact size and there's a limited selection of planner binders. Have a blessed weekend!
Oh wow! I didn't know they use to change the rings for you. It would be great if they did that again...like if we could order custom binders , that would be awesome.
I too remember that. I had a store that was local to me in Ontario, CA in the early 2000's and needless to say we were friends. The staff was awesome. I miss that time.
Good helpful video, regarding going larger. I was hoping someone would post a comment about going smaller. I have a FP with one and half inch rings, but I think something a little smaller is my sweet spot. Will check back to see if someone will eventually post about going to smaller rings.
@@TonyaPlans Welp. I just got some info from Franklin Planner folks. I called them to order smaller rings. The lady I spoke to said I could only go about 1/4 of an inch smaller. They don't tend to do many smaller replacement rings. I think they had one in gold that was 1/4 smaller than what I have. (I wanted silver.) But I can go smaller by purchasing a binder that already had the smaller rings. I was kinda wanting to go down to an inch for my classic. But looks as if that's not happening with this particular planner. Anyhoo. Just thought I'd share the info here in case someone else was looking to go smaller. Going smaller for replacement must not be a THING. lol
Thanks for this helpful video! I learned this the hard way with an expensive Gillio binder, which was a replacement for a defective binder. The Gillio rep gave me the option of bigger rings but failed to mention that it would push the pages out and the tabs would show past the cover of the binder. I can't use it!
I change my rings all the time. Always to a larger size. But I never go more than a half size up. The 2 inch rings only work in the old Franklin Quest binders. They were made for those binders. What you are showing happens more in the soft leather zipper binders.
@@TonyaPlans Yes, I am asking that. I want to print my own planner inserts. I already have a three ring hole punch, and I dont want to purchase a 7 ring puncher so I'm looking for a binder that has 2 or 3 rings.
@@chanelm6146 ... i'm also looking for 3 ring binders, 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 size. It's ridiculous that binders that small have SEVEN rings!! With arthritis in the hands i need the ease & lighter weight of 3 rings. I've never understood why letter size binders have 3 rings and the smaller binders have 7. Doesn't make any sense to me! 🤔
I think it's too hard to write on the left side of the page with 2 inch rings (I'm right handed). I prefer 1 or 1 1/4 inch rings for ease of writing in my planner. Great video! Thanks again for all your tips and information.
Wait a minute!!! Those are Timesystems pages!!!! They bought them out, stopped offering them then restored them later? I had no idea! All these years and I would have been buying them if I had known!
