Agreed for sure. It was beautiful. And I get into it here, but the Yuriko stuff is easily some of the most emotional moments I’ve ever played in a video game.
@@thats4thebirdsI love nujabes but you should look into the huge amount of music he sampled in order to make his own music. “Counting stars” for example is a direct cover of “affirmation “ by the legendary jazz guitarist George benson . Jazz is an American (specifically black American) invention and the people that nujabes was inspired by deserve recognition. There would be no nujabes without American jazz
No game or movie has ever made me cry but ghost of Tsushima is a really great game with an excellent story and a depressing story as well but it has so much more meaning to the game than it shows, that’s why it’s the best game yet.
Kind words thank you! It’s already got a script written and I just need to record and edit, so you’re in luck haha This video out a few things on the back burner so I’m glad it’s finished.
It’s pretty great! An homage to samurai flicks and the story has a real focus on challenging the ideas of honor and duty and where the limitations of certain class structures are more focused on personal moral victory than any collective action and safety.
I name the first horse Nobu every time because Jin loses Trust by the end of the 2nd act. Then the 2nd horse Kage because I embrace the shadows by the end game.
The big twinblade dudes on Iki have nasty tracking on purpose, it's not a design flaw. They're the Soulsiest of all the Soulsy enemies in GoT, specifically designed to punish panic rolling and greedy attack mashing. Their tracking, quick follow-up hits, and hyperarmor are all there to exploit these mistakes. In particular, their big rushing/spinning move is designed to bait you into a panic roll and then catch you, either with the mentioned tracking or with the follow-up swipe. They teach/demand button discipline and a 'solution' approach to fighting in a way basically no other enemy does. Anyway this was a great analysis, thoughtful and well-constructed. Also it took me a while to get used to the twinblade dudes, I definitely was calling bullshit for the first 50 deaths lol
thanks for watching that far even! haha i will say, i see your point, but I just dont think theyre well tuned even for the scenario you bring up. Having played most souls games, this would be an enemy that stands out with its bullshit even in those games where tracking is a regular threat. that said, I appreciate you! I might just remain a twinblade hater lol
Just trying to share a piece of data based on experience that could potentially teach something or raise questions that lead to new knowledge... I noticed a pattern in my behavior while playing this game, & I saw a stark change between how I first played the game & when I got my first full playthrough; my first time playing the game, I didn't progress anywhere beyond Act 1, & I played strictly as an "honorable warrior," but when I actually bought the game after buying my own PlayStation, my first FULL playthrough was filled with assassinations. I got to Act 2 & started seeing how deep the mud really was, & I felt it really wasn't worth it to be honorable for every encounter. I felt my morale start to wear down after entering Act 2 & getting through the beginning of it. My first time playing the game was filled with pride, optimism, & an eagerness to prevail victorious honorably, but after a full playthrough, I was filled with the thought of, "There is no honor: there are simply the dead & the living." Food for thought?
Yeah I mean I think it’s interesting that they don’t give ANYONE the chance to be a straight up samurai with even the movie facade of honor. “Honor died on the beach” and they make sure you can’t escape without sacrificing the remaining honor you may be trying to hold on to. I like that they commit to it because I think a “no ghost” playthrough would undercut the themes.
Big thanks! Yeah I wish haha it’ll happen at some point I hope! A couple of mine have finally caught YTs attention so I’m hoping this one does too. Maybe when the sequel is announced or drops.
Probably not gonna watch the full 4 hour vid but you get a like and a sub for the samurai champloo intro alone. I play this game with nujabes playing on Spotify in the background and it’s SOOOO FUCKING GOOD!! I’m an old anime head now (early 30’s) and champloo is in my top 5 , the game just fits the soundtrack perfectly
Lock on is a straight up detriment to this game. It feels odd at first but once you get into the FLOW of combat you realize why lock on was not a thing initially. If you use lock on you are literally robbing yourself of learning how the combat is supposed to feel once you get a bit more skilled. The combat is supposed to be a “dance” and by locking onto a single opponent you are doing nothing except making your “dance” moves more rigid and less Freeform. Lock-on is a bad idea for this games combat period
Agreed. To me it's the best of the best. I've played this game in entirety at least 3 times now including Iki Island and NG+ and still playing through yet another, now on PS5. I love the game mechanics and how they put it together. A word of advice though. 4+ hours is much too long for a vid. I doubt you'd get anyone to watch through the whole thing without skipping. 15 minutes would have been more palatable.
Yeah it’s a repeat for me too Oh and thanks for the advice. Yeah I don’t expect anyone to sit down in one go so I add chapters. I like these long form videos personally so that’s what I was shooting for. No way to fit all my feelings in 15 mins lol Thanks for the tips tho and be well!
@@thats4thebirds Cheers bro. I appreciate you taking the advice as constructive as intended. About the amount of times I've played. The first time was shortly after it came out a couple years ago. Following that I moved on to other games. Then about 1-2 months ago I picked up up again starting from scratch. Completed the game, bought the Iki Island expansion with everything fully completed and upgraded. Then went to NG+ for the extra goodies and near completed that. Then I bought a PS5 (finally was able to get one) about 2 weeks ago. Thing is I messed up when I sought to continue from where I left off. I missed the option on the title screen to load a PS4 save to the console and the game started from scratch again so I lost everything I'd acquired including progress. Man I just stared at the screen for a while in astonishment. Anyway I soldiered on like a good soldier, completed everything again, went to NG+ again and now in Act 2 of it. I would never have done that for another game. So that's my story.
I think leaving Jin tied up and not dead makes tactical sense. Turning the ghost to the Mongol side is a way faster way to complete the invasion than simply killing the ghost.
I think my main point here isn’t that it wouldn’t normally make tactical sense to turn him, just that there’s quite obviously no chance of that at this point in the story. He should recognize that but despite making the right call w most other enemies he just misses the mark on Jin.
Please enjoy! This is my great white whale and I’m glad I was able to accept what I could do and let go of what I couldn’t.

Holy shit 4 hours. Take a well deserved break 😅
This game was incredible. Brought me to tears a few times, was such a emotionally resonant story.

Obsessed w the Samurai Champloo OP 🔥
Nujabes is forever ❤

Ready to move on now in peace lol
Certified Birds Nest Classic 😤🦅🦅🔥🔥🔥
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thanks as always brother
You get the like because i somehow never heard of the term themperor and its amazing.
Haha we try to be inclusive around here. Cheers and be safe!
This critique reminded me of how much I actually enjoyed playing the game, made me think about some things I didn't pay attention to. Great video!
I appreciate that! That’s my biggest hope for people after this. Maybe it just make some subtle things that much more interesting.

It definitely had a lot of nuance to it. Sad and epic all at once.
Glad you were moved by it!
Happy to say I was here before this pops off in 2 years when people reminisce on this game
Kind words, thanks!
Yeah I figure these things take some time to build. Hopefully more people get a chance to see it.
Amazing critique! This made me want to jump back into the game and put another 40 hrs into it. Can’t wait for the next video
Kind words thank you!
It’s already got a script written and I just need to record and edit, so you’re in luck haha

2:59:00, yes, the traditional way to absolve your clan of shame in Feudal Japan was ritual Sudoku.
Not sure that I’ve ever felt for a horse as much as I did Jin’s.
Fs in the chat for Kage 😭

That samurai champloo edit goes so fucking hard. I feel bad this hasnt gotten the views as it should. Boosting this as much as i can.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
4 hour vid for less than 3k views in a year. Man see video that takes effort. Man sees few views. Man sad. Man liked video and commented
Awh thanks brother. Be well!
This video should have wayyyyy more views. YT algorithm too busy suggesting other crap I guess…
Big thanks!

Brief critique…? Very well done!

lol
“Your father is the wind at your back and your mother the guiding animals of Tsushima” it’s not “up for debate” who the wind is, it’s your dad.
Yeah just tryin to be poetic I guess, but it feels fairly obvious that they’re direct parallels. Haha
